We are trying to bring back to life the ZS coin. To that end we set up Zer0foundation that would first fork the old coin and then further develop the coin to bring it back where it belongs. The foundation list is not closed yet and is still time to join. Optimally, we need 8-10 members (have currently 6 confirmed).

In order to prepare transition process Foundation has set up a donation wallet:

In order to make the transition process smooth there are several issues that must be discussed, before we can put the proper ANN. Here is the list of issues that we have currently in mind (will be updated as discussion goes on).

1. icecube45 volunteered to help with forking ZS to the new coin. There several issues that still have to be agreed:
a.) whether to increase the current number of coins, in order to have sufficient funds for bounties and development or just keep the coin as is, relying fully on donations. If increase how much would be sufficient? 50k, 100k, 500k? Whether, or not to allow short PoW phase, if coins are added.
b) fork will be made at 1:1 rate, 1 old ZS coin will be one new Zer0stake coin.
c.) apart from forking the coin, icecube45 won' have more time to devote to it, that is why we would love to have a permanent Dev that will be paid from our donation pot. There are two options, either we could have it with fixed salary, of say, 5k ZS bi-weekly, or to have it paid on per-task basis.
d.) what to do with the coins that are owned by the previous Dev, CG, in order to avoid massive dumping once the project recovers?

2. List of issues that we would like to see further, once the coin is forked: anon mixer?, marketplace?, some more features in the wallet?, you name more...
3. Have possibility for donation in non-ZS currencies, be it BTC or any other, you name your proposals.
4. Have fixed people from the foundation responsible for PR of the coin and further development strategy, in order to improve the usage and possible applications of the coin.
5. New logo, new ticker, etc. For now, we have first proposal of the logo:

W00T! Took longer than we thought but the six foundation members we currently have all seem to have different schedules ;). This in its current stage is meant for a basis Of discussion. We are willing to hear all arguments for and against any issue. We have seen the ZS community come together before and are expecting the same here :)

Sorry about the disappearing act towards the end of last week, put me down for 10,000 ZS to the foundation purse once I get my wallet sync issues sorted out (I'll work on that this evening) also I should have some additional logo design options and a placeholder website in place near term.

Thanks for the nodes, got me slowly syncing now.  Hit the bed and check status in the morning.

Still having a bear of a time getting the wallet to sync, on newest version with all the nodes added in the .conf file as recommended, seems to be creeping along but barely.

Are you syncing the wallet from beginning?

Any chance a kind soul could upload a new bootstrap.dat file for ZS, this open/advance 2 blocks/close is torture.

Looks like we need some updated checkpoints to speed this up! Hopefully we can take care of this in the fork.

No Joy.  Tried several methods including a couple suggested to me in PM, can't get the wallet to sync @ anything approaching a reasonable rate.  

Same old, same old, rinse and repeat... Open Wallet > Get A Few Connections > Move Forward A Few Blocks > Drop All Connections > Freeze In Place

Interesting... my wallet is working fine atm... did you tried clean install of wallet with your .dat and .conf?

I did, tried that, tried with staking turned off, tried to sync just a vanilla install and always ran into the exact same pattern as I did with the true .dat.  I'm thinking it's a bootstrap or nothing at this point.

we have a very strong proposal here. You get my vote! Very nice work. However we need to have some more proposals, probably. And, last but not least I was hoping to have more discussion on the issues we put in the first post, rather than just logo contest.

I agree uki, we need to get some of these technical details ironed out and the fork going. If we got get any news on this issue by end of the weekend, I will find a DEV willing to provide a fork. Unfortunately I will be out of town till the end of the weekend. Next week I have vacation and nothing to do! So I'll dedicate more time into this.

We have not fully completed the fork details but hope to have them finalized soon.

Been thinking about it and I'm wondering now if we shouldn't entertain the thought of transitioning to pure PoW with the fork and stay there, we had many PoW coins flock to the PoS fad but has a coin ever done the reverse on a permanent basis?  Most here have probably noticed the most common pattern of coins going the standard short PoW/perm PoS path is a short shelf life of weeks to a couple of months in the spotlight only lose that initial steam & buzz in PoS, eventually becoming forgotten and a non-entity on the crypto scene, similar to ZS's original path.

Miners are great thing and going back to pure PoW would validate the Zer0stake name.

Something to mull over while we are laying the foundation for Zer0.

pure PoS vs. hybrid PoW/PoS vs. PoW
I think going back to full PoW is not that bad idea after all.
PoS was delivered to make people keep coins in their wallets and eventually have some incentive to do so.
But if you think carefully, all PoS is just another hype, not preventing you at all from the price collapse, once the initial interest in a coin fades.
Just a quick food for thought: how much must have been PoS interest rate to brake you even if the coin loses 50% of its value, which in the end is not that uncommon in cryptoworld. 100% just to brake you even! You still would like to keep your coins in your wallet or dump them as soon as possible, before the others do?

So yes, going full PoW would at least reflect the name Zer0stake better, than any PoS variant.

It is a beautiful logo, the first Fiverr artist killed it for anyone following her.  I have some new Fiverr submissions I will post in a bit but the first one got everything right in my eyes... colors, balance, scale... and it gets top scores on my most important criteria "Will it look good on a T-Shirt?".

Agree with uki, this thread now needs to be about getting under the hood and working out the details on an engine that will power ZS out of the deep ditch we currently find ourselves in.  I've posted my brief thoughts on moving back to a pure PoW model, leaning that direction if I have a vote, but I'm still undecided.  I'd love to hear from others here with arguments for and against a transition back to pure PoW.

I do like the idea of going back to POW and it would stay true to our name. I have been unable to pop into IRC the last few days (wife has been distracting me);). Either way we need to get this fork going soon.

It would be great to have a full-time dev to work on that, but if we don't start things running soon, interest will fade. So why not just forking the coin (I remember that icecube was willing to do that), bring the PoW phase and start thinking about promoting new coin. Otherwise we may get stacked at the very beginning.

As I posted in the other thread, I had a lot go wrong in my personal situation, so I've not been able to do jack. Just got caught up, and I'll be more active after the 30th when my internet gets hooked up. Right now I'm relying on McDonalds wifi :D

Anyway, on the idea of switching back to pure Proof of Work... Interesting, to say the least. If you do that, I would recommend using one of the newer algos, like X11 or something that has the potential to be CPU mined, so more people have a shot at it. I know it was originally SHA (I mined it from the launch) but if we want newer people, ASIC's are probably not the best answer at this time.

I actually favor hybrid PoW, PoS like TEK and HBN. Fairly low block reward and fairly high POS, it keeps the chain moving even when staking is low, and gets a wider base of interest.

Anyway, at the moment I have little time, but I will be again very active starting on or about september 30th. Glad to see it still happening.

Ok, I have good 'net access again, and my main machine. Not sure where you guys are at or what you're doing. I'm swamped on my job until Wednesday, but after that, those of you developing this can see if there is anything I can help you with. My ZS holdings are quite small, but I'd still like to see this go forward.

The more I think about it, the more I like returning to POW, possibly altogether, or with a lower POS rate. I'd suggested earlier switching to x11 or something along those lines, but given the continual rise in BTC difficulty and the sheer numbers of older SHA asics, I think I would instead stay with SHA-256. Maybe 5 coins a block and 10 percent per annum POS?

At any rate, I'll be ready to help starting Wednesday. I cannot say how much time I'll have for it, but I do want to help.

Fair question. Donated coins are in the wallet and staking, waiting for the devs to come. Said that nobody is interested in resurrecting ZS, it seemed to have many followers back at its days.

I have messaged someone today asking if they possibly know of a dev to take this project on. I will report back any answers I get

I haven't managed to find any Dev either.
I am stacking regularly the coins in the development pot (currently at 33580 ZS) and they are ready to be employed as soon as we find someone.
The lack of interest in this topic is showing however that it won't be such an easy task. On the other hand, XDE coin that myself and some of the other posters in this topic have in their signature managed to do that so why ZS can't?

I had had shitcoins but this is the real one. Included Allcoin.com has eliminated the market!

ZS has been abandoned by its original dev long time ago (mid summer 2014), and so far there is no public interest (less than 100 posts in nearly 6 months) in resurrecting it. Nothing more.
