While the client is syncing it also uses up your computer's resources, so you may have a tough time working on whatever it is you usually do during the day. With Blockchain-MicroSD, all you need to do is insert it into your computer and copy the included file into your bitcoin data directory. It takes 1/20th of the time it would normally take if you synced the old-fashioned way. Plus, once you have copied the file to your computer, you can use the MicroSD card for whatever you want! Good question! According to the graph on this page: https://blockchain.info/charts/blocks-size, the blockchain grows about 33 MB per day (~1 GB per month / 30 days). Blockchain-MicroSD is intended to replace the initial downloading of the 20+ GB. 33 MB / day should be doable for those on limited internet connections. As time goes on there will be more current versions of the blockchain available on Blockchain-MicroSDs as well. |
