This is a choice you have to make yourself. At the moment bitcoin has dropped in price and we have not seen any signs of it going up as of yet so I would take a look around, get yourself more familiar with bitcoin and remember...NEVER invest more than you can afford to lose if you do choose to invest in BTC. Nothing can ever be predicted and this is no different. Good luck!

Nobody can tell you whether it is the right time to invest or not. Maybe it is maybe it isn't. You could buy in today and the price could plummet or the opposite could also happen and the price sky rockets. I don't think the price will drop any lower than it is now, and I believe it's only a matter of time before bitcoin goes up dramatically again, but this is just my opinion. You need to make yup your own mind on what to do.

There are several bears and severals bulls in this forum, everyone will predict what he wish to happen, but it's up to you decide.

Everyone would be a guess if they tell you.  If buying for long term personally i think yes.  Short term I'm not sure as far as when we will see jumps no one can be.

It's 480$ now, it was the right time to invest on BTC, now maybe it's time to sell some...

Yes it's the right time. If you're hoping for a collapse before you buy in I think you might be out of luck. I think it's only a matter of time before we see a big price spike.

With the ETF coming at the end of the year I assume this is the right time to buy bitcoins.

With Paypal implementing it in the Braintree platform and hinting they are closely interested in it for them and ebay, I don't think there could be a better moment to enter in the Bitcoin economy in any way you can afford to.

There's so much good news coming and I think it's just a matter of time to when the price goes to the moon. If ebay/Paypal or Amazon does accept it I think that will be the first sign we've gone fully mainstream.

I honestly think now is very very good time to start investing in bitcoin. The network is super secure, infrastructure is developing fast, new decentralized marketplace, anonymity techniques, big companies starting to accept bitcoin, etf's etc.

In a couple of month the panic sellers will regret their decision...

No one knows for sure how bitcoin price will move in the future, but I think it is a good idea to invest a part of your saving in bitcoin for long term investment. But please don't put in anything you can't lose, and you should consider it a risky investment.

You can buy  few BTC and hold it until the price rise. But it is not the right time to invest to BTC mining.

It is a very good time to buy, in next few months paypal and ebay will start to accept BTC, so it will go to the moon.

Best way, invest in parts, if you want to buy 100 USD then buy 25 usd on current price. 25 usd on -10% of current price.

True, I'm dabbling with trading but as others have said, buying and holding Medium to Long term is probably a very good strategy.

If you're investing for the long term, then likely yes.  Short term, it's anybody's guess.  If you think Bitcoin will be around for a few more years, it is more likely then not that the price will go up substantially in that time.

This is the best time to buy Bitcoin, $350 is really really low and the chances of going up is really high..

When the price goes up, you probably find the price too high to enter; when the price goes down, you probably are not brave enough to catch the falling knife.

IMHO, this is a very good opportunity to get in BTC, anything at these prices are a buy. Those who sell at this price will be broke later. Who cares whether you bought at $350 or $360 when it goes to $5000 ? BTC does not even have to replace currency or payment processors to break over 1k per coin.

In this time you have possibility to invest in BTC, consider that price is low and you can enter in market with low quantity of FIAT. Invest in right way and be aware from scam opportunity.

Honestly, just looking at the lifetime chart...there really is no right time to invest on BTC.

You can buy now, then tomorrow it'll be down 50 points.  Basically you just gotta be in it if you believe in it.

Invest a little bit, then alot, right before we gain major mainstream acceptance.  You'll know, once you start seeing it in Walmarts, Amazons, local gas station, TV ads, Facebook etc...

Every situation has an opportunity to flip, or daytrade.

The "right time" only applies if you believe in Bitcoin's intrinsic value, and feel that it is going to continue rising until it reaches its "true" value.

if you are interested to invest in it you can compare it with gold you know how gold growth into the market :) this same concept like it :) so we can trust on it :) cold storage is safest part of this  :)

The code can only be modified if more than 50% of the miners agree with it and update to the new software.

$1200/BTC was a huge bubble.. anyone who has done any trading should have recognized that for exactly what it was. That said, I think that BTC is highly volatile and still a little bit over valued right now. The drop to $300 recently was probably very close to it's actual value, which is still really quite good compared to say, 2012 prices. Because it's so highly volatile, I don't recommend day trading unless you are able to watch the price all day long and buy/sell instantly at whatever strike you decide to set.

The main thing is, and I believe this, that BTC is a commodity that will continue to appreciate overtime in the same way gold and silver will. There is a limited amount of BTC, there is a growing interest in BTC and there will also always be BTC losses due to wallet losses etc. BTC has no choice but to grow in value over time. I look at BTC (and FWIW DOGE now as the heat on that coin is growing) as long term investments. Don't risk more than you can afford to lose and you're good.. and if you ever happen to invent a time machine, please drop me a quick note back in 2012 and tell me to sink everything into BTC and then sell when it hits $1100-$1200 as a thank you.

The fact that there are few weak holders remaining matters not much, I think the main reason why Bitcoin's price is staying low is because of the high inflation, from big mining farms selling thousands of Bitcoins every day.

It's never too late to invest in anything, but the general rule of thumb is to always invest in what you can afford to lose. So now's a good a time as any to invest!

If you don't know how bitcoin will move in short term but have confidence that the price will go up in medium to long term, you could buy some bitcoin every month, averaging the cost of your bitcoin. :)

Forgive me for this question, it sounds like you are expecting the bitcoin price will go up during or before Christmas but how is Christmas related to the bitcoin price?

Presumably some people who don't invest regularly may get some sort of cash Xmas gift or a bonus in their Xmas work pay cheque & buy BTC that they wouldn't normally be able to afford.

Looking backward, the bitcoin price did have a big rally started in Jan 2013 (a month after 2012 X'mas) and Nov 2013 (a month before 2013 X'mas). I am not sure if it is just coincidence of two data points though.

What do you base this on? Nobody can predict the price. You can never tell when is the perfect price because it could either soar or collapse at any time. Now may seem like a good time to buy in, but it could still fall, but the opposite of the price skyrocketing is always there too.

In a few years (maybe?) someone will be in your shoes saying: "I wish I was there to buy $350 bitcoins in 2014 :(". Never a bad time to buy if you truly believe in the currency and hold through the dips and crashes.

It's very subjective. Do some research, watch some docs to get an idea of it if that helps, and invest when you feel comfortable with you knowledge.

Difficult to say. Looking back when this thread was new, you could easily have waited for $280 Bitcoins, we're even now lower that when this thread was started. I often think about how - at some point - we'll never see prices this low again. Or maybe $368 ever again...

If you buy a small amount each week you really cant go wrong historically, this year would have been a bad year for most.  The price right now is lowish.

Yeah, that's a nice strategy in my books, as well! If you really stick to that principle, you won't lose trying to day-trade or catch a falling knife, like a lot of people try these days! Even this year's all time high could be considered very cheap coins in a couple of years!

buy and hold is as risky as trading in some situations. You might wait several months until you recover(and one day the prices will never recover, because BTC can't rise forever)

Trading of BTC is too much risky man if you are new in btc. Just take my example few days ago i just started trading BTC and lost 30$, It involve too much risk if you want to trade your BTC,

now is a better time to gamble on bitcoin than six months ago, but not as good as two years ago. either way its gambling, not investing. anyone telling you any different just wants your money.

BTC trade is large enough and the risk that the movement is not so fast on appeal altcoin, so you better choose altcoin trade, with the emergence of new coins you can earn huge profits :)

I would invest in BTC now if i were you. It's pretty early to say for now but most people think bitcoin's price will be zooming off in the long term.
Maybe a moderate amount, so you won't be crying when it touches down. ~5-10 would be good to go.

Risk is not defined by the fact that you lost $30.  Trading/owning any asset has risk.

Alt coin is the most shit type thing to trade i thing. These coin are not like BTC, these coin are controlled by one person or group of person they can do any thing at any time and you may loose much amount, So trading of BTC is perfect if you are a good trader

Well I believe Bitcoin will drop even more, maybe to around $170-$150 before the end of the second quarter of 2015. The only reason it's still above the $200 mark right now is because of the Coinbase announcement a week or so ago. I'd wait a bit if I were you, especially if you're looking to invest a decent amount of money.

I think this whole year is good for investment. Buy btc as much as you can at that low price and then wait for the next year when price will go to above 600$

At this moment I believe a lot of 'weak hands' have sold their stash already. The price is now in an interesting phase and some people claim that we can't go down any further and the selling-pressure is decreasing. It's difficult to tell. I believe it will be lower than 200 for sure, even struggle with 100-120 $, but doubt there will be place for much volume.
Its smartest to wait, unless you cant stand to miss out on a possibility.

well, there will be always some negative news, so that you can possibly buy lower, or never buy.
The price has been hoovering around $220 for quite some time and somewhere around this level could be a solid buy.
If you are afraid of price suddenly dropping, you may considering entering in several parts to average the price.

Reading the thread, it seems it has nothin to do with BTC stolen.
So it is safe to assume it won't affect it.

It doesn't really matter if news are true or not, most of th time is the rumor which leads to confusion and psychological fear, that can trigger a price drop, so keep your eyes open.

OP, get yourself a little bit of BTC, like less than 100$ worth. Just attaining it is a whole process in itself.

Then learn about security. Become paranoid! Thieves are everywhere, your computer may already be infested with malware that will steal your coins. Don't let a hard lesson also be very expensive.

Start small, I believe you have about 2 years in which the price of BTC may go much lower than today, for sure it will fluctuate quite a bit.

There is so much to learn, and so many scams, that it will take you a few months of trial and error to get your footing.

Hold it forever. Maybe your grandchildren would be pretty lucky to sell it for you after your death. But on the serious note I am fully confident that you can earn on bitcoin not only by holding it. I would not like to say it is easy with shifting market but you can earn by buying cheap and selling when price will rise.

that is actually a very good hint. Myself, I was first reading and learning and then started to practice and so missed the train in November 2013. I missed that opportunity, but there are plenty of similar opportunities around now, and supposedly there will be some more ahead of us. So nothing is lost, no need to rush, as rushing you may lose more than you plan. Do not go all in, just a little bit of play money. Learn about security, transactions and once you feel comfortable make your own decisions on when to sell/buy.

yep. that is why what one may try is to buy in smaller chunks. You may not be able to exactly hit the bottom price, but what you can do is to lower the entry price, or at least increase your chances that the entry price will be acceptably close to the bottom.

There is a good support around this zone, it seems we are unable to go lower than 210-220. You may want to wait for some more confirmations for an uptrend but I think we are already set for some good movement.

Also not sure if we already saw the bottom. Probably not. But we will see that after two or three months, after we will have not bi-weekly, but quarterly low. Then we can think of trend change. For now the last year's trend stays in place. Nevertheless we are close enough to the bottom to consider buying BTC as risk/reward ratio is very promising. As I already said in my previous posts, not all in, but buying in chunks would help you to keep the entry price close enough to the bottom, even if you are not sure you saw the bottom.

I would argue here. If bitcoin goes back to low prices like $20 or something it will most likely by on its way to 0 and I wouldn't invest at that point. A technology like that has to gain ground an value over time, it can do it fast or slow, it doesn't matter, but if it continues to lose value it won't succeed.
