Title: Bitcoins first funded horse (via GLBSE) first race!
Post by: Nefario on April 27, 2012, 01:24:23 AM
Satoshi's Daemon (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=46929.msg870150#msg870150), a race horse funded by listing on GLBSE is having her first race!

Open a free account on GLBSE's prediction market and bet (play money) on her position.  (http://predict.glbse.com/markets/46812)

Just to clarify here, the shares are not for ownership of the horse but instead for "BIRs" (Bitcoin Interest Rights).

Quote
10,000 Bitcoin Interest Rights (BIRs) were granted to the owners of the thoroughbred racehorse named Satoshis Daemon. From these 10,000 BIRs, 500 are being offered initially only to those interested parties who have acquired bitcoins. BIR holders have no ownership duties or privlidges, but will participate in Racing and Sale Dividends after expeses are taken out

Quote
"Bitcoin Interest Rights" (BIRs) are traded on the GLBSE (www.glbse.com) under the ticker symbol "SATOSHISDAEMON.horse". BIRs have no ownership opportunities and are denominated in bitcoins (www.bitcoin.org). The owners of Satoshi's Daemon are putting up their own bitcoins, and have offered to disburse these coins to those willing to accept the risk associated with bitcoins and thoroughbred racing. Under no circumstances will holders of BIRs be entitled to any US dollar winnings, only the bitcoins pledged before each race by the owners. Please visit the GLBSE and read the signed contract information.

And a question.  Was the use of Deamon [that was my typo: Daemon] in the name chosen in the mythological sense or does it refer to word as it would be used in computer technology?

If it was computer terminology it would be a daemon and not a deamon, especially because deamon isn't even widely used as word. It should be demon instead. Will not dare to say that the word deamon doesn't even exist, altho I'm almost sure it doesn't lol

That misspelling was a one-off. It's correct on the race card, GLBSE, etc.

That's what I get for not looking closely to the URL of their site and only looking to what you wrote :P

Then I guess the mistery remains in the sense of the word daemon ;)

last.  You could claim this horse for $5000.  Seems like a better way to go.
