Hi,

Got a question.  Building an area of my house to house a dense amount of miners.  Going to dedicate about 90A of 220V to the miners and the supporting infrastructure and possible the A/C to cool them. Currently have 4 tons of cooling but that is for the whole house, so I know I will need to dedicate more A/C to the miners.  MY question is usually when I build datacenter for traditional uses I estimate 3.5 BTU per watt of power, do miners fall into this same ratio of heat per watt?  Since the power supplies are usually from servers/computers I am going to use that ratio on them but any help with heat generation on miners would be helpful.

Normally for datacenters I also do lights, breakers, wiring, etc, but in the case of this room in my house just worried about the computers, miners and the window.  The only one I am not sure about is if the miners fall into the 3.5 ratio.

Fans definitely will not be enough for this much heat.  This is more heat then an outdoor gas grill. I should be fine, you can buy used 5 ton cooling units for around $3000.

The trick is to vent the heat from the miners. I use a triplite 42U enclosure with the thermduct kit it works fan-tastic :) I use an 8" cyclone fan to exhaust the heat from the cabinet up into the attic where it goes out thru the roof vents easy peasy...
This setup prevents the miners from continually heating up the room air and even if the room (garage) gets up to into the upper 90's F its still effectively cooling components running at 43C to 50C (109F to 122F) antminers or the Jupiters that run around 65C (149F)

Agree, fan is way cheaper. AC is costly..

Geesh with a price like that definitely grab all the mining gear you can. Wouldn't doubt to go with AC cooling then if you can afford the AC units.

Moved into a house that had been emptied for a long time and signed a contract for flat rate power, monthly rate is based on the previous 12 months.  Basically unlimited power for a flat rate every month. Talking to local transport company about taking my service line from 200A to 400A.  :)

It's more targeted at data centers, but they say liquid immersion cooling systems are becoming more common these days.

Very interesting concept and could cut cost in cooling.  ;D

You are completely confused.  Don't even think about attempting this.  It won't work.  You can't AC miners.  You must blow the heat into the atmosphere with a fan.  If you attempt to use AC, you are going to be stunned how much energy you will consume.  It's not engineering, it's physics.

Actually, I think you're confused.  He stated "My power is less then .001 cents per KWH, maybe even cheaper." so energy is not a concern to him, that's why he's talking about going to 400A.

Who are you ripping off? Alternatively, if it truly is a free source, how many KW is it limited to?  In that case it will still be wasteful to A/C vs. fan, because you could have purchased extra miners and used the energy to make more BTC.

If its truly free and unlimited then why are you wasting your time posting on this forum?   :o

Nope not confused. Of course you can AC miners, how do you think large datacenters do it?  Fans are not a viable option as Houston has 99F+ degree days with 80%+ Humidity.  I may be able to do a hybrid and AC outdoor air to below 80F and pipe it in for the miner intakes the exhaust outside, but that is a lot of ducting.  Full blown ACing them still seems like the best option.

LOL maybe. Depends if I run out of funds to buy miners, and also if I get my 400A service feed. I provided my load analysis on Friday, so I am hoping for good news this week.

Not ripping off anyone it is a 12 month electricity contract offered by one of my local power companies.  My price per Kwh goes down the more I use so that no matter what I always pay the same price a month.

Good point on more power for miners problem is I don't think they can survive operating in spring/summer in Houston.

I do not move in for 3 weeks. currently stock piling equipment. Got miners, PDUs, servers, PSUs, and other supporting infrastructure just waiting for me to move in.

Smart guy here lol Im doing the same thing did u need a in line duct fan or just run it up and out?

Funny someone responded to my thread today, I actually had a heat problem this weekend. so much heat is being generated by my 35Th that is pre tripped the breakers on my 30a PDUs. I may venture to say heat dissipation will be my limiting factor at home and not my power.

Funny someone responded to my thread today, I actually had a heat problem this weekend. so much heat is being generated by my 35Th that is pre tripped the breakers on my 30a PDUs. I may venture to say heat dissipation will be my limiting factor at home and not my power.

So this landowner is just going to roll over with a $2K/month power bill?

And to answer the original question, as others have said you don't really want to cool the air, just MOVE the air from outside>in>out. 

I ran 5KW of miners in a 2 car garage during 100 degree summer days it was 115 in the garage but the S1s have some fan headroom so it worked out  ;)

Why would the landlord care?  My power company is the one the contract is with.  Remember what they say about assume, I never said my electricity was provided by my landlord.

Also I am a bit passed the 5KW mark, more like approaching the 30KW.  5-15KW was easy once you go >20KW thats when you start finding other issues.

well i do pareciate you guys to be in the calculations of mining even teh temperature and watts consumpiton but you must realise that diff will rise so roi of 3 months will be roi of 6 months in a jiff i mean ant miners for TH will give only 0.07000000 BTC per day and thats like 3 dollars per day a TH it neeed like 180 days to 240 days to roi i supouse.

many people are working on this issues and i m sure many of them found the solution one best place for to get best hardware with heat problem solutions is Webterrabit for best bitcoin and litecoin mining hardwares
