Title: GTX690 was just announced. Where is 7990?
Post by: AzN1337c0d3r on April 29, 2012, 03:51:37 AM
Basically just 2x GTX680 on 1 PCB. I wonder what the cost is?

Come on Red Team.

Didn't we talk about it in another topic? You mentioned the possibility of the TDP envelope as well as current leakage at +80C being issues. There is also the possibility of bad quality chips coming through; becoming quite common to have doa/failing cards with the 7970s, this through various newegg/amazon/and tech website threads. Who knows what is the hold up.

This is the 7990 killer: http://www.geforce.com/whats-new/articles/article-keynote/

MSRP of $999.  I hope AMD doesn't get any funny ideas for pricing of the 7990.

I don't think we did?

TDP being a problem? Unlikely. Current leakage? Probably. But NVIDIA's cards shouldn't fare much better there, being based on the same TSMC 28nm HP process.

Citation needed. People tend to overhype problems. Like Toyota stuck accelerators -- turns out it was just old people (median age over 60) -- who couldn't tell gas from brakes.

This is the 7990 killer...

I find it interesting that NVIDIA already holds the performance crown, there really was no rush for them to release GTX690, yet them seem to have done so, even with GTX680 in low supply.

It's not going to kill the 7990 since it can't mine for worth shit. The 7990 (whenever it comes) will probably be a "free" card after about 12 months of mining, whereas the GTX690 will be only worth its resale value.

I'll bet the 7990 will hold its resale value better too, since it'll be super-efficient and all the miners are going to want it, keeping the demand up.

At this point I'm going to guess GK100 is going to be Tesla/Quadro only.

Was referring to the title for the 7990. This is the most expensive graphics card launched though, I guess reviews will pop up soon. They used a lot of metal in this design, wonder how much it weighs.  Probably will radiate heat well, but it should also retain heat, in addition to the fan/air flow design in a case?

Edit: The 690 uses Mg alloys, the exact one is not mentioned.

The GTX 690 is great news!  I hope it absolutely annihilates AMD's offerings and they will release the damn 7990 already, I'm sure this is what they were waiting for.  Now they'll have to offer it at a competitive price which means we will be hashing on the cheap!!  Or they can release 8990, I'm not picky or anything. :D

I agree on this. 690 has to be great news as it will only push the 7990 out the door quicker.
