Monero has features that BTC doesn't and won't have anytime soon (as opposed to LTC, DOGE), it was launched as fairly and the devs clearly have a vision for where to take it. The fact that they were willing to bring in Peter Todd with the blocksize attack from a couple of weeks ago shows that they aren't shy from asking for help when it's warranted. It's gone from a somewhat interesting, yet flawed coin, to an over-hyped coin with way too many people spreading false promises. These sort of threads annoy more people than help the coin, in my opinion.
Interestingly the price hasn't exactly skyrocketed after all of this hype either. If someone was considering a cryptonote flavor, BBR appears to be the stronger bet anyway, if I had to be honest.
