That "no signup" thing is going to be the first thing you change I bet. The first time CP is broadcast there you're going to be sweating bullets.

I have nothing to do with the content everything is strictly peer to peer. The server is only used so the broadcasters and watchers can find each other (like a tracker for torrents). I doubt I can be held responsible for that. However if too much content gets posted that I don't want I will take the site down and regulate it by adding authentication. I really hate for that to happen as I hate regulation.

Also: the site is currently hosted on a free host until I am sure there is sufficient demand. If the free host kicks me off, PM me and I'll move the site ASAP.

At the moment I am lowering the video quality (I only tested it on a LAN) and fixing a small bug in the chat. Will post when done.

Okay the chat problem is resolved and the quality is set much lower. I have set it to 30KB video quality so let's see if it goes better like this. I can always try to put it back up higher later.

To try the new version press control+F5 (so the browser really refreshes and doesn't use the cashed version). You know you have the newest version if you see V0.2 in the title bar after Cam 4 BTC!

Could you give me more info on the crash? Like what were your exact actions, what browser what Operating system?

Also, after streaming for 1.5-2h my laptop is starting to get really hot and having trouble running so the delay (when you could connect) could be that as well. It is old and I only use it for the test stream because it's the only machine I have with a webcam. I have been in the stream with up to 9 users and they all reported the video was working fine.

BTW if you want to test you can also open the site in two separate browser tabs. Broadcast on the first and watch on the other.

We also had the first two performances that were not me. First a horse and then a skeleton. I'm pretty sure most people are waiting for girls though :)

I fixed the crash bug. I used a library which was causing memory referencing errors. So I have removed this library a rewrote everything from scratch (took me a while so this better be the cause of everyone’s crashes )
To try the new version go to http://cam4btc.com and check if it says v0.3 in the header after “Cam 4 BTC!”. If it doesn’t, press control+f5 (to bypass the cash of your browser and cause an actual proper refresh).
Other fixes I did:

•   I now show join and leaves from channels in the chat region
•   I now show the number of viewers on the channel for the viewers as well
•   The list of channels will not get out of sync anymore

Please test it and report if there are any more crashes, glitches or bugs. Of course I appreciate feedback as well.

I now release audio streams properly when switching channels (so you don't hear the audio of both channels through each other anymore).

I also added an http://bitcoinadvertisers.com text only add and made an option to hide it (click hide ad and it's gone). I'd appreciate feedback if this is too distracting of the main content. I struggled with the decision of adding them or not but went with this compromise (text only hideable adds) because it could help towards paying for an actual host. Please feel free to argue against me regarding this decision.

I'm planning on adding loads more (think about showing the donations being made in the blockchain live) but need more time and feedback so please start using the site :)

We need to have a way to open or join a room via URL.

I would like to be able to use this as a live video support channel like "Click here for help with your Bitcoin client".

There are a million different ways to use this kind of service, with Bitcoin, in a non-sexual way. We just need to put our thinking caps on.

Further additions in v0.5:

* I found out the server is disconnecting a lot. I need to use another server but in the meantime I made an automatic reconnect function. It will thrownotification message to inform the user
* I fixed the incorrect number of viewers and incorrect join/leave messages
* Quality control for the broadcaster. Note that you can only change those when you are not broadcasting (click stop broadcasting)

I could also extend this to automate the signin process fully. The you would need to fill in the variables like http://www.cam4btc.com/index.html?channel=CHANNELNAME&name=NAME but then you would need to determine the username to sign someone in with.

You could for example make a html form with a textfield for people to fill in their name and a "Click here for help with your Bitcoin client" button which would take them to www.cam4btc.com, sign them in with that username and auto-join your support channel. Would this be a useful addition?

I think this would be most useful if the entire flash session could be embedded in a webpage rather than redirecting a user to cam4btc.com.

There's so many things that can be done with this...

If we can get screen casting and/or sharing implemented with this, imaging the tutoring and tech support services that could flourish.

Well that's possible by downloading and installing ManyCam (available for Windows and Mac, Cheese might work for Linux). In this program it is possible to make your desktop available as a camera and selecting it in my website by:

1) Go to the broadcasting screen
2) Right click on the flash layer and click settings
3) Go to the camera menu and select the camera mimicked by Manycam
4) Start streaming :)

I tested it and with the qualities I made available it was unwatchable so I updated the application (version 0.6.1 !!) to allow the following options:

Quality: 30KB/s, 40KB/s, 60KB/s, Max
Resolution: 320x240, 640x480, 1280x960
Frame-rate: 8fps, 12 fps, 16fps, 24fps

I have been broadcasting a porn movie now at Max, 640x320, 8fps and it is very watchable at my other computer on the same network. I would appreciate hearing your feedback.

I also added automatic re-login AND channel join on unexpected connection loss. Finally it is now possible to autojoin a channel and autologin by going to the website with the following url:

www.cam4btc.com?name=NAME_channel=CHANNEL  (note _ instead of & as they weren't coming through to my flex application somehow).

I got a "NetConnection.Connect.Failed" error. Maybe it's because I'm on 3G. Not sure...

It throws that when it cannot connect with the Rendez Vous server. In plain English the server that helps the peer to find each other. So yes it likely is to do with your connection. However I should really do something better with the error then show it to the end user. Maybe automatic retry? I'll put it on my todo list, thanks for the report :)

Heya, again a new version. I debugged the video quality some with Kleeden (iirc, sorry I kinda suck at names :), who are you on the forums here anyway?) and later also Gweedo and we found settings that vastly improve the video quality. I released it in version 0.6.2 and even gone so far as to remove the manual configuration settings for the broadcasters altogether to make it less confusing for the end user.

Yes very silly they do that. You can connect by going via WiFi of course. At least it saves you on bandwidth usage cost (streaming video can go pretty fast :P)

Cam4BTC has moved to a new host as riush (member here at Bitcointalk) has generously offered to host both the website and the other server software I need for free until further notice. This should bring stability and allows me to keep the software up-to-date.

I have updated the DNS but this can take up to 48 hours to propagate (it is usually much faster though). Press control+F5 and if you see you are running v0.8 you know you have made the switch.

Sorry for the pessimism but as much as I would love to see you succeed, this is not gonna happen. Maybe with

• regulation of broadcasters
• much better streaming/video quality most likely via fallback to use a server as a repeater.
• many interface improvements like preview of other cams, chat history, bookmarks, ...
• at least one interesting channel at any time. I assume your test broadcast is streaming content that will not get you in trouble. Maybe you should rather get some girl from myfreecams or any other such site to also stream to your system for x USD/h. I heard of somebody who knows somebody who has seen girls stream to different sites there already. I guess what gets people to pay for is not naked girls but getting connected to these girls and therefore canned content will not work. Guess it wouldn't even need to be porn.
• alternative ways of payment at least for now (which would again require logins).

• How long do you log IP addresses?
• Do you store streams/snapshots?

Event though I don't agree on all points, thanks for caring enough to post here :)

To start: I am not a fan of regulation. I am currently working on a scheduling feature so people know when a show will be on (maybe you meant this with regulation? ;)). Note that this is still <v1.0 software and I am still improving it. Note that I like to work iteratively and expand based on feedback. The test channel is merely there to test the quality of the stream and to see how it works, I could also stream a non-porn movie if you prefer ;)

With respect to the quality. I have been o a channel last Friday night at 5 am my time or something with a guy and his stream was clear as can be. He was streaming at 24 fps and it was coming across fine. Any normal internet connection should be able to reach the speeds I am (I upload at 8fps 75% quality and 640x480), and even for solutions where content is streamed to the server a minimum bandwidth is required. Maybe the settings for the video quality could be further optimized though. I agree the interface needs many improvements (although I am a big fan of minimalism). Care to submit a design? :)

I am currently not planning on hiring people to perform shows. I am in contact with people that are interested to perform but that require a few improvements to be made. Also the fallback stream option would defeat the purpose of this site as that would vastly increase the cost (thus forcing me to charge fees) and would require me to regulate (id) broadcasters which would defeat the anonymity and leightweightness of the site.  Remember I am not trying to compete with MFC, I would surely lose if I did. And patience is key. Rome wasn't built in a day.

I don't like the design of MFC to much neither as on 16:9 half the screen is chat, some part the links to the other channels, quite some part task bar and browser menus and not even half the screen actual video. I like their snapshots on the other channels and some other features
Disclaimer: I was thinking about doing something like this in bitcoin when I first saw MFC and find the idea totally mind blowing not only for porn and not only for video. Why not tip a live audio streaming from some event.

The channel list should be a drop down hovering over the video. When I open it (click to open, click to close) it should list snapshots of all channels + name + visitor count.
To get the user right into the experience, the landing page could be a welcome video streamed in a loop with some girl pointing out of her video to the elements of the site. "click here to ...". (Gah, I can't find this cool promo video they had on youtube once where some action hero is being shot at by evil guys in the other (fake) preview videos on youtube and shoots back with the youtube layout in ashes in the end :) you know what i mean.)

My nick and preference to watch or stream should be saved in a cookie! it's annoying to have to provide them each time.

Hmm ... for the rest I see now your ambitions are not short term profit. Fair enough. Hope you can keep making it better as long as it takes to get a solid user base.

Thanks a lot for the feedback I will take it into consideration. Some things will get done sooner than others. For instance the flash cookies are something I will do rather quickly while the user interface revamp is more complex (also for getting the required information, like the stream preview). The video idea is really cool but if it get's done the user interface should have matured more I think. I like the ideas though.

And btw it is entirely possible to only broadcast an audio stream on the site. Maybe cam4btc isn't the best name for that though :D

Version 0.9 is out. I added a scheduling mechanism: Broadcasters can schedule shows and both broadcasters and viewers alike can view the schedule. This way people will know when someone will be on in advance and can check back.

I hope this will help with broadcasters and viewers finding each other :)

Also, if a broadcaster stops and restarts stream, audio will resume quickly while the video just freezes for a while. After a while (like 30 seconds) it does go o, if you want this to be quicker just go to and leave full screen mode and it will continue immediately. I have not been able to mimic this programmatically yet so I'm working on that :)

Yesterday night we had a record of 29 people online at the same time and 2 broadcasts at the same time. I want to thank dino_rawr and ENTerTheDragonfly for performing the broadcasts.

* I had a small bug which showed all hours as <12 hours even if it was in the afternoon, thus making it impossible for people to determine whether it was in the morning or afternoon. Fixed in v0.9.2

the last times i tried i had issues. on chromium the "Allow blablabla" window did not react on my click and on firefox I saw dino_rawr was online but clicking on his "show" I neither got sound nor video after allowing.

Feature request: The schedule needs a link so the performers can give some introduction although this might be an invitation to link spam :/ Maybe a description without link is more realistic?

regarding the issues:

1) On Linux problems with the allow button are a known issue in some Desktop environments. I am not sure what causes it but Adobe points at the Desktop environments and vice versa. I don't think Adobe will do anything but I read that Unity ios close to fixing it. Gone is not known to have the problem if I am correct.
2) Not getting sound or video is weird if you were sure she is broadcasting. Did you receive chat? Did you try to reconnect?

I could add something along those lines but didn't want to waste to much time on the user interface so I kept it simple for now and moved on to BlockChain related features. I can see your request as adding value of course :)

v 0.10 is out with donation address verification. If you enter an address <34 characters I will attempt to resolve the firstbits using BlockChain.info, if you enter a 34 character complete address I will verify it is a correct address. No more making typo's :) [disabling donation addresses altogether is also supported]

This is also preliminary work to being able to show donations being made live in chat. I needed to be sure I was working with valid Bitcoin addresses before I could work on that.

ok, so if there is a channel, there is not necessarily a video or audio stream? would it make sense to show a "not broadcasting" image instead of the video and a mic muted symbol when there is no sound intentionally? i reconnected and saw "3 people online" but did not try to chat.
The chat also does not tell me my name so if i pick one each time I tend to just smash the keyboard and then don't recognize when people talk to me.

This is true. A broadcaster is in control over broadcasting/not-broadcasting without having to close the channel entirely. I think it is a good idea to show this to the user and I will do this just need time to do it  and there are a lot of things still that need to be done :)

is there a good way to record while streaming?
and store it in some cloud service?

Get spiltcam, or manycam on windows, camtwist on mac. Then open vlc or quicktime or some webcam recording and record your stream. For the site to have built in stream record wouldn't make sense since it is P2P and anonymous.

The site had been down for ~10-12 hours but is back up now. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Okay I had some time to work in  the site today:

1) Totally revamped the channel members functionality making it reliable
2) Added a show members pop-up list to see who is currently on the channel
3) Added ignore functionality to the above list. Ignoring a user will hide all chat messages by that user. If a user leaves a channel and rejoins he will retain his ignored status with you. If he reconnects he will not be ignored because there is no way client side to differentiate between a genuine new user and an existing user that returns. This functionality is silent, ignored users will not know they are ignored.
4) Altered the Scheduled Show functionality to be more clear. I changed the wording and for the list of scheduled shows changed how the date is displayed. Is this more clear guys?
5) Went over the FAQ and added the functionality I added today. Explanation about quality settings and explanation of what the name colors mean is still out, don't want the FAQ to become so verbose no-one will read it :P

I noticed in the last couple of days (and Sunday-night/Monday morning in particular) that a lot of people were on that did not have Bitcoins (or even knew what they were) and some commented they did want to donate but did not know how. Also, I heard that people complain about being unable to use Credit Card or Pay-Pal to purchase Bitcoins.

Therefore I have made a deal with QuickBitcoins.tk to be featured on cam4btc.com. QuickBitcoins.tk accepts Paypal and credit cards (as well as many other payment systems, many of which are also accepted by other exchanges/vendors).

I have looked around and the only problems I found with the site is that they use a very similar the to bitcoinnordic.com. However:

1) This is based on a  freely available template
2) They claim to have sacked the site developer and will change the design of their website as soon as possible.

Other than that I was unable to find negative reviews about them and found the above insufficient to reject a partnership with them. I have however not personally used their service so please do your own due diligence.

Finally:

In the future I will have links to stripcoin.com by Tuxavant as well when he finishes the logo(s). Hopefully these additions combined will help people that are watching the streams in acquiring Bitcoins to donate to the  broadcasters :)

It should work on every device which has Adobe Flash player.

Two things I don't know:

1) I don't know how the GUI looks int hat low a resolution (what is the resolution)
2) I don't know if you can broadcast as I don't know if device access in Adobe Flash Player works at all on phones. Does it?

If it's not working for you it is likely your provider is blocking outgoing UDP traffic. Go to http://cc.rtmfp.net or connect to your wifi to test it.

We reached version 0.13! (I'm not skipping numbers ;))

New features:

1) Show total amount donated to for a show
2) Show wether a broadcast is actually broadcating
3) Allow broadcasters to change their name and the name of the show without disconnecting

I can view videos, although the layout is not very phone friendly.  I can get into the broadcast portion, but I don't think its broadcasting anything.  Also touching in the chat box does not bring up the onscreen kb, I have a physical KB on my phone so that works, but pressing enter from the phone does not send the chat.  I'm running gingerbread, and flash 11.?

Does it show the preview video? If it doesn't it can't access the camera. My guess would be that is going wrong. I will see if there is an easy way to enable that.

User interface wise I'm afraid I will have to make a UI for very low resolution interfaces like phones. It is very difficult to make a single user interface for very different resolution environments. You're going to end up making all sorts of compromises and end up with a user interface that isn't really optimal in either of the environments.

I just created a Mobile project and just copied all code over and there are a lot of incompatibilities :(, that will be some work  ...

multi camera support:
I recently ran into the problem that it defaulted to the wrong camera. how do I get it to switch to the other cam?

that is a flash problem not a site problem, just change your flash settings for the right cam and mic :)

In an ideal setting the site would provide an interface (but we're still a bit off from that state :)) but yeah I take the default camera set in the Adobe Flash Player. To change it, right click in the flash player, click settings click on the icon of respectively the microphone or the video and select the right input device.

ok, I know if it works, you don't see a need for you to change anything but for the record:
I guess a solution could be to pack this information into an alert box that opens when you click the "choose input" button in the host screen.

When Trying to broadcast from Android it does not show the Preview.  so its a camera issue...  I had the flash acceess request come of for access to p2p network, but I can't get the flash setting to come up on my request, maybe if i can get in there I can select a camera.  Maybe if someone has an android with only one cam (i have front and back facing) it will just work?

Right now, yeah, but just in general, it seems like there's been more visitors recently than normal. Not necessarily people going on camera, but just visitors.

well, the 2 "girls" online now, are guys with 15 snippets of girls barely moving without mic. Be creative and ask to verify. I asked "touch the chair behind you" and "she" verified with waving. Generally no voice is almost 100% not what you want.

I like the idea, the two girls on now though I'm pretty sure are just pre recorded video loops.

would loop detection be a thing that could work or do you not get the stream at the server at all? The client could tell the server if it detects a loop maybe?

The server does do book keeping so it could take a note of a loop detection from one of its clients and report it to other clients. It would mean though that the dev would not only have to develop loop detection (hash each image, keep the most recent hashes (maybe only those fitting a certain filter that matches only one in 30 pictures, get full pictures that match a repeating hash to be sure?) but also develop rogue loop report prevention.
