Title: iOS 8
Post by: rapta on September 17, 2014, 09:50:43 PM
Thread for collecting thoughts on apples new OS release of iOS 8.0.

I was pretty shocked that it required almost 5GB of free space to install.  I ended up having to clean up my phone, which I guess was a good thing.

The only parts I've properly played with are the new text interface changes.  As you type words come up at the bottom of the screen, which from my experience so far are not very helpful.  Perhaps it takes some time to train..

Also the sound over text only appears to be functional with other iPhone users (should have expected that I suppose).

Let's us know how it is.  I have a jail broken device and don't want to give it up yet unless its worth it.

And the Dropbox issue is also a problem for me...

If you have an iPad 2 then don't update because the keyboard lags soo much in some applications that I can't even type a whole sentence.

Thanks eightspace...that's what I have.  Shame their OS keeps getting worse for older devices.  Sucks we can't rollback either.

Sucks we can't rollback either.
That's what frustrates me as well. I've had so many battery problems with iOS 7 and I'd be happy to go back to iOS 6. Right now I'm holding off on 8 until a jailbreak is released - I'm not willing to give up my jailbreak tweaks for a new OS with more potential issues.

You actually can rollback (to iOS 7)!!              ---Unfortunately this will delete all of your apps/media---
Head over to http://www.icj.me/ios/all and find your device and download the ios 7.1.2 .ipsw file listed next to it.
Remember. This will only work if the iOS version is highlighted in green (currently iOS 7.1.2 is!) because Apple is still signing it. AKA letting users "update" to that firmware version.

Then go onto iTunes on your computer and find your iPad listed there.
Hold down shift (command for macs) and click on the restore button (unfortunately clicking update to switch to a lower iOS version doesn't work)
A window will pop up and from there you can select the .ipsw that you downloaded earlier.
It should restore your iPad to the earlier iOS 7 and now you have successfully downgraded!

I'm going to try this right now...    I'll update this post when I'm done.

Update:
I was successful in downgrading my ipad!!!
It turns out you actually don't lose all of your apps/media if you backed up your ipad while it was still on ios 7. You can do a restore from backup after you go through the restore process and you get everything back!

Good luck to you if you try this tutorial.

Apple pulls iOS update after widespread reports of disabled phones

The iOS 8.0.1 update is no longer available after multiple users earlier reported serious issues with the new version of the operating system, one that was expected to fix a glitch with the highly anticipated HealthKit apps.

Not that I am aware of, you should be able to update to 8 without issue.

Wow already a few patches since this thread was made.  iOS 8.1 is now out..

I originally thought I was having bluetooth issues with my phone, it turns out there was a bug with spotify after the iOS 8 update.  Patching spotify cleared the issue, I am kind of afraid to upgrade to 8.1 until more feedback comes out..
