Title: Best Proof of Stake coins █████ Voting Poll █████
Post by: CryptoCurrencyInc.com on September 18, 2014, 08:52:29 AM
If you know of any quality Proof of Stake coin that I forgot to mention in this poll, you may reply to this thread and I will add them to the list.

Of All the Proof of Stake coins out there, you can only choose one as your favorite. Think carefully before you vote.

How to vote on this poll?
To vote you need to create an account on Bitcointalk.org

Everyone should tweet to their coin creators on twitter and ask them to ask their coin users to vote for their coin on this poll.
Send them to this link: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=786993.0

Proof of Stake coins represents ownership in the coins. Loyalty! Commitment! Real investors put their money where their mouths are. Right now, these cryptocurrency coins are just coins. When they build up their market cap, they will become companies. These Proof of Stake coins have a chance to become the future prosperous 915 cryptocurrency companies.

Each one of the company listed in the future prosperous 915 cryptocurrency companies will have a market cap equivalent to 10,000 bitcoins or more.

How can you not include Bitshares and Nxt in a "best PoS coin" poll.  ::)

Crypti and NEM should be in there too, since they have different and innovative PoS algos.

Missing QUITE a few PoS coins Bottlecaps being notable.

This poll intentionally missed many POS coins.
The reason is very simple:
This poll wants people to only post reply of their favorite POS coin. Not just any POS coin, only their  favorite POS coin.

Hmm so no ones favorite is Peercoin, Novacoin, CAPs, Blackcoin, BTS or NXT? Every coin on that list with the exception of Bitgem was a fork of these... Just saying poll is kinda lacking.

Have to agree. Poll is very much lacking. The fair way would be to put together a list of all the active POS coins, then have poll rounds to determine the best of the bunch.

This is one way how we can keep this thread on top.

Has anyone actually hold NEM coins?

a "poll" on bitcointalk.org is usually current audit of how many active sock puppets are on here at any one time.

let me just get that number for you....

looks like a pretty quiet evening only about 12 sock puppets.

I can't believe BitShares BTSX does not get more discussion around here.  Their forum is quite active and they are actually bringing working innovation to the table.  These are some threads I compiled that helped me acquire the background needed to understand BTSX.  I am curious to see what others think about it from a technical standpoint, I don't care about pricing etc...

I'm surprised BitsharesX got the most votes so far. I myself voted for NXT as I believe it is one of the most stable if not the most stable PoS coin out there. Plus it's been around for a long time and does not depend on BTC. I'm not very familiar with BTSX but I'm definitely gonna do some research now ;)

Why do you think it's unstable? I see another situation. That's good for NXT that it doesn't correlate with BTC but as far as I know BTSX doesn't correlate too. I might be wrong, but this is what I see

I think you misunderstand, I didn't say BTSX was unstable, I said I didn't know it very well  :) I talking specifically about NXT here which is an older coin that I got to know better over the past months. I was surprised by the number of votes BTSX received because it's a relatively new coin and I didn't realize it was that popular. But I'll read up on it ;)

Thanks for adding HYPER!

If anyone is interested in our cryptocurrency gaming endeavors please see our latest news (I hope no one minds I just want to show people why our 5% monthly PoS coin is working on a very extensive crypto gaming ecosystem):

Some HYPER updates:

HYPER has been mentioned on Cryptocoinsnews: https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/hyper-cryptocurrency-gaming/

- Our HYPER Just Cause 2 server is under development
- A HYPER Minecraft Feed The Beast server is also being developed
- The HYPER WoW Arena Tournament will start sometime over the next month
- HYPER Team Fortress server will be live within the next week.
- We have someone working on setting up a HYPER Corporation (which will involve our currency HYPER) in the popular space MMO Eve Online. They are working out the details so as to make sure the HYPER corporation does not break the terms of use for Eve Online.

Some accounting updates:

- The Old MMO Outreach Fund at http://hyper.blockexplorer.cc/address/HJCFQjBCapWiTQUiAZ66BVsdycFBK12Auz is down to 21 000 HYPER after funding HYPER giveaways (http://hypercrypto.com/forum/index.php?board=10.0), HYPER game servers, the HYPER Federation (http://twitter.com/Hyperfed) and more.

- psybits has been staking the MMO Development Fund as per the wishes of all who voted in the HYPER poll. I have requested 60 000 HYPER from this to help pay development funds for the new HYPER servers and associated competitions. This will leave over 550 000 HYPER remaining in escrow with psybits: this 550 000 HYPER principal will continue to be staked to help fund more HYPER projects. This 550 000 HYPER is a core asset of the HYPER project and will be used to fund the main HYPER Space MMO development, and further HYPER game servers and initiatives.

- 5000 HYPER has been given to Dave Seaman and the HYPER Federation, to help secure real-world HYPER merchants (shops, etc) who will accept HYPER as a payment method, in LA in the US.

New HYPER investment fund to be launching:

- To help increase liquidity and value of HYPER on the exchange at https://bittrex.com/Market/Index?MarketName=BTC-HYPER I will be launching a HYPER investment fund on the NXT Asset Exchange. Investors will be able to purchase shares with NXT. This NXT will be converted into BTC and HYPER will then be purchased with the BTC. Investors will receive 5% interest each month, in NXT, from the staking of the HYPER in the fund. I am expecting to launch this within a week or so. This will raise the profile of HYPER in the crypto community, increase liquidity on the exchange, and increase the HYPER exchange rate due to the buying pressure from the fund.

So was information regarding Cryptsy and tix. But like we learnt big john, sometimes you just need to suck it up and move on princess

Hello,

I wanted to ask if you could add Bitbar to the list of proof of stake coins worth holding.

With the continuous Proof of Work difficulty/reward  readjustment and the relativly small hash rate that is maintaining the network, POS in this Alternate currency will play a big role.

Either that or I am Delusional... take your pick ;)

I know it's hard to handle the fact that BC has so much support, but do you really need to stoop to the level of FUD? You know full well that the mining phased was fair and announced well in advanced, so please stop this nonsense. And how is it a "scam" when there are still countless of devs working on the coin? Maybe you should try to promote your own coin instead of bashing other coins that are making a real effort to advace in the crypto world.

The author of this page didn't do anything except scan the blockchain.  Apparently knew nothing about the history, devs or great community.  Yes, there was a pre-mine but it was announced, it was open and at least a thousand of us were mining millions of blackcoins during the pre-mine.  Active devs like rat4 (PoS, PoS 2.0), David Zimbeck (BlackHalo smart contracts, NightTrader) and Blackwave Labs (Blackbit, Ruby Wallet, BC-centric Exchange) continue to work this coin.

BlackCoin had no premine, and also the analysis you cited doesn't claim that. Every initial distribution model of a PoS coin happened in a short time, in BlackCoin through a short PoW phase. People quickly use the term "instamining" which is actually a term for PoW coins with a ridiculous block halvening policy.

The current distribution of BlackCoin is better than in most alt coins. Regardless if you think that BlackCoin is a good investment or not, you will hardly find a second PoS coin code base that contributed so much to the cryptocurrency community. Several coins in the voting are BlackCoin forks btw.

Pandacoin's distribution phase was 95 days long. 95 days of fair mining during our POW phase.

So, "every distribution model of a PoS coin" did not happen in a short time. Ours didn't. :)

That's why Pandacoin is the fairest and most secure PoS coin in the world.

That's why Pandacoin is the fairest and most secure PoS coin in the world.

noerc, what was the length of the PoW phase for BlackCoin?

Note: I hold mostly PND, but I AM interested in the real debate and answers to this poll.  I am new enough to not be opinionated yet.

Nice to hear that Pandacoin had a long PoW phase. I think miners generally have a more speculative incentive when mining a PoS coin that is in PoW phase compared to when mining a PoW coin. It will be interesting to evaluate in a year how different distribution phases influenced the final distribution.

BlackCoin had 10000 PoW blocks, the first was mined on 24th of February and the last was mined on 1st of May (60 sec block time). Each PoW block up to block 5000 contained 10000 BC, which was then halved to 5000 BC until block 10000, resulting in a total cap of roughly 75M BC. A giant hype after the PoS phase was entered lead to a massive raise and sell off which further influenced the distribution (hard to say how exactly).

My personal opinion is that once there is one PoS coin that attracts a market capitalization similar to Bitcoin then there will be a storm of people trying to exploit every critical aspect of the protocol that exists. And there are well known problems with PoS. Focusing the development on security is much more important in PoS coins than in Bitcoin, and even there it is the primary topic. And I see BlackCoin following exactly this path.

http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=a_massive_investigation_of_instamines_and_fastmines_for_the_top_alt_coins#blackcoin

Yet your official topic said "no premine". this smells even more like a huge coverup for a scam.

Not true. Maieuticoin was also 100% mined out as MMXIV before the switch to Maieuticoin

I would also argue all day about the most secure. Not only are we forked from the newest PPC directly (not a clone of a clone), but we also offer offline staking, which results in far greater blockchain security than ever seen before

I think it doesn't matter that most blackcoins were mined in the first days. Most of that coins are already sold and we have a good distribution now (check block explorer) - better than bitcoin is distributed. Price is also low so that you can buy decent amounts of it :).

OK, I needed to check my definitions.  I was calling the Blackcoin initial PoW phase the "pre-mine".  No coins were pre-mined.  At least a thousand of us or more were mining it during the PoW phase and it was announced well in advance.  BC has devs attending conferences worldwide, Coinkite adoption, multiple pairings on Bittrex, active devs and now working smart contracts.  Sorry FUDers.

To clarify, no one said anything about blackcoin being premined.

There was, apparently, however, about 25 million blackcoins mined over the course of a 3 day period of time, according to the report above.

That would be considered a fastmine or an instamine by usual definitions.

Unless that report is incorrect.

I am new so sorry if this is a dumb question.  Wouldn't offline staking easily confuse a lost wallet with offline staking and then really be wrong on the blockchain security /distribution?

Pandacoin was originally made to counter a wolong scamcoin, recently pandacoin succeeded in killing the wolong scamcoin by getting it removed from the markets.

The devs have created something much more than a counter-coin now.

Innovative features such as a browser miner to introduce new non-technical users to cryptocurrency and buypnd which allows PayPal to PND transactions.
The devs are always active and are always planning new releases/ features that actually work.

No IPO/ICO, premine, none of that stupid shit, pure fair distribution. Started with PoW and after a community vote it switched to PoS.

There are two official multipools so you can still earn PND.

I found that info on an original reddit post.  How is Panda more than a new brand for Doge but with 2.5 minute blocktimes?  Is there offline staking, but isn't the network more secure if everyone is online staking like for Blackcoin's PoW2.0?

This is photographic evidence that supports our brief searching of the blackcoin blockchain. The majority of the first 10000 blocks were PoW, and since they were all producing 1,000 BC, the bulk of the coins were made within one week. Anyone should be highly skeptical of the start of this coin. Who would think that the creator of this coin is thinking about enriching your pockets and not theirs?"

66% of blackcoins created in 3 days to a select group of scammers. Blackcoin is an instant-mined scam that got pumped up high, and original group of scammers that got hold of the 66% of blackcoins already left the coin laughing to the bank already, leaving bagholders left to defend the fort.

Your move now blackcoin shill.

Pandacoin had the longest PoW phase of any PoS coin on earth.

Pandacoin had 0 premine, 0 instamine, 0 fastmine, no IPO, 100% fair distribution for nearly 100 days.

Pandacoin has the most professional and highly skilled development team of any coin on the market.

Pandacoin is looking to expand past the crypto-crowd and into the global mass-markets, and has the talent to accomplish it with developments like the Panda Bank, and the Crypto Crash Course, making Pandacoin familiar and easy to understand.

The amount of innovation, skill, and sheer devotion to fairness, quality, and ethical business, is exactly what will bring Pandacoin to the top.

Blackcoin with it's 66% fastmine, extremely short PoW phase for a very tightly knit distribution, and unfulfilled promises of developments that will never come, will leave you dissatisfied; I guarantee it.

Pandas are defensive because of 2 main things:

1) We are against all scams: ICO/IPO/instamine/fastmine/premine. We've done a lot of efforts putting scams out of business and refunding people who lost coins in scams. Our topic once get banned for 30 days because we offered to pay a compensation to all people who lost coins in a particular scam. (bitcointalk saw this as a giveaway and banned our topic). We have a very long and rich history and we managed to "kill" 2 competing scamcoins (one of the topic you mentioned) with the same name. We are the only one that survived (and stronger than ever ;)). So our community is very strong and loyal and always try people to do their own research when they want to invest in coins. You will very rarely see someone pushing to buy PND, yes we are amazing but we're not some coin with kiddies that just say "buy buy! moon! moon!".

2) We've come a very long way, we were down to 3 litoshi at one point but we (the devs and the community) didn't give up. We (the devs) kept working very hard and have at this point already accomplished some things that makes us very different from other coins. We're creating the first coin that is easy to use, easy to mine, easy to buy and easy to understand. Because we've come from such a long way, the community is very close-knit. We support eachother, mess with one of us and you mess with all of us ;)

Feel free to read up on a post I created last friday: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=568529.msg9232641#msg9232641 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=568529.msg9232641#msg9232641)

My personal opinion: Blackcoin is doing some things right and some things not. I'm not going into details on this. Also distribution is a bit strange and the richlist is not that well distributed actually. Top 5 owning more than 16% of coins is not ideal.
That being said: you should only invest in coins that you think are right for you: do your research and my advice is to only invest in coins that have been around a while and that still have active devs. Chances are too high that new coins are scams.

Its really sad how sophisticated and diligent cryptocurrency development branches fight each other in those forums. Luckily developers who meet on conferences are usually very kind and professional to each other.

The whole problem is probably that everyone thinks that his favored altcoin will replace Bitcoin one day, ignoring the fact that if there is a blockchain technology that is so much superior to Bitcoin then Bitcoin would of course hard fork to that technology before it dies.

Everything would be so much better and more exciting if all alt coins would be worth nothing. Then developers would work together again and communities would cooperate instead of fighting each other. Sorry for the rant, I don't care where people put their money in, and its also not my business, but when I vote in a "Best Proof of Stake coins" poll, then I distinguish projects regarding their code base and not regarding their investment opportunity (which are absolutely not correlated thanks to speculators).

You make a valid point... Although the driving force behind cryptocurrnecy is the community, with that said you are correct, the rivalry is somewhat ridiculous at times and should not be as harsh as it is most of the time.

I vote for Gridcoin. It only started a Proof-of-Stake scheme a few days ago, called Proof of Researcher. It is basically Blackcoin's Proof of Stake 2.0 with a way to cryptographically verify BOINC work. This coin can literally verify any kind of scientific, financial or even commercial brute force computing task. The user can choose from a list of projects entailing folding, climate modeling, high energy physics, finding aliens in space, social-financial simulations, earthquake sensors and even mining BItcoin. A proofhash of the work is stored in a Proof-of-Stake block's header.
This coin is truly revolutionary.

The voting poll is closed? It still shows up for me. Maybe I'm missing something. I do know the OP never really updated the poll with many other POS coins to vote on.

- even with the low current BTC->USD exchange rate

$100 Proof-Of-Stake CLAMS lottery winner today.

That may be true. But it is not a fair poll if all POS coins are not represented and given a fair chance to be voted on.

Correct. To be a fair poll, you must list all PoS coins trading on one or more exchanges. This is simply a waste of time and does nothing of value otherwise. Hoping we see FIBRE listed soon and the others folks are requesting soon, otherwise treating as a dead thread.
