Title: [ANN] GLBSE has a new look!
Post by: glbse on May 01, 2012, 03:40:45 AM
GLBSE (http://www.glbse.com) is pleased to announce the release of an updated and improved user interface for the exchange. We hope this will improve the user experience for all of our clients moving forward.

As part of this update we will be requiring all that existing users and new registrations read and acknowledge acceptance of the Exchange's Terms of Service.

To thank our users, and to encourage you all to try out the new platform, we are also announcing 2 days of commission free trading, ending at 4:00am UTC on May 3rd, 2012.

Lastly we are giving notice of an amended fee schedule for use of the exchange, which will be implemented at 1:00am UTC on May 8th, 2012.

Fees will be as follows:

An 8 BTC fee for listing of a new asset.

A 0.4% trade commission on both the buy and sell side of a trade.

A 0.2% fee to directly transfer an asset between accounts. This transfer fee is not applicable to assets that have had less than 20 BTC of volume since the inception of the asset. This transfer fee will be based on the asset's average traded price over the last 5 days it was traded, or the assets initial price if no trading has taken place.

GLBSE is a bitcoin denominated capital market. Inquiries can be directed
to support@glbse.com.

Well that's disappointing. A 60% increase in fees is pretty major.

Is forced bond buyback included in this update?

I find things all a bit spaced out. It makes the tables in the portfolio and market views a bit hard to read. Is it possible to get rid of some of that white space?

I have tried to check unconfirmed transactions from http://bitcoincharts.com/bitcoin/txlist/ and http://blockexplorer.com/address/1KxNCg7h5KHgbdjBbzPhCptj2i4eHgAMd5, still no luck. I am sorry, I didn't fully understand it. I issued AA asset and thus I have AA and BTC accounts in my profile. Does the fee apply when I send shares from my AA account to my BTC account?

Yes it does.  There are enough Bitcoin sites using it that flow so well that I have started to go "hmmmm, I think the next website I do will use twitter bootstrap".  It's almost not worth it to try and re-invent the wheel.

When is it ever worth re-inventing the wheel, although bootstrap isn't the wheel it's a lot better than what a lot of websites have, a great starting point and I think for financial websites it suits quite well.

504 has to due with server timeouts; maybe the server is overloaded. (I'm no expert though)

No fee for transfers between users own accounts.

There really isn't a reason to extend prices all the way to 8 decimal places on the main assets page; 2 should be plenty.  It'd make the overall page a lot cleaner.

I'd also agree with above comments about too much space between rows.

Overall though, great update, thanks for all your work on the site!

I would differ; I'm all for accuracy. More digits may not be important for all stocks, but they are for some.

In that case, may I suggest a compromise?

If you see the bet amounts on bitcoinrps.com, the significant figures are written in black, and the opacity of the remaining zeros is dropped lower.

Bitcoinica also does a similar thing where they write the first few digits large, and then the remaining ones in a smaller font.

I prefer Bitcoinica's approach; it fits well with Bootstrap. Not sure how easy it would be to implement, though.

Accuracy is important, especially when you're looking at the stock-specific page; but for the main assets page 2 or 3 decimal places should be fine.

Long-term, it'd be great for users to have their own "favorites" stocks they like to track, which could be set up through their preference settings.  When GLBSE gets to be 300-400 stocks large, you want a way for users to visually pare that back a bit to just assets they're interested in.

A real-time streaming ticker would be awesome at some point, but that might be asking too much at this stage.  :)

Thanks for the new site, and changing the "Ask" ordering.

Should the depth charts be cumulative?  I know there are different views on that, but the point by point ones have less information content.

Does GLBSE offer some sort of parsable market stream?

I currently import the market data into a spreadsheet for analysis and updates to allow me to track portfolio value and a few other things.  It's on a schedule, but I can refresh when I need to.  I don't bother with every trade (but I think that's available).

So, yes, the data should be around.

You linked with your session ID; the thread is here (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=74711.0).

How are you getting the raw market data? Are you pulling it off Twitter, or does Nefario offer that publicly?

Lol, fixed that.

I just pull it off of using the Twitter API then make it look nice in a table.  I have it update every hour for now.

No, but the NYSE isn't the custodian of everybody's assets, either.

A yahoo/google finance style site would be better considering there is more than one (and hopefully more) bitcoin denominated security exchange.

The new look is great, API is appreciated too (haven't looked into it yet, but will do soon).

I've almost made a wrong trade twice due to the following mixup:

https://i.imgur.com/yuPfa.png

I see "ASK 0.622" and instinctively go to put my own ASK there, type in the qty and price, and then realize that the button next to it is labeled "BUY", which is not exactly what I wanted to do. Maybe removing the words "ASK" and "BID" or making them much smaller than "BUY" and "SELL" would help? On Bitcoinica, for example, the BUY and SELL buttons are big enough that they draw attention first and there's no confusion.

IMO all of these suggestions should be done by 3rd parties and not GLBSE.  Does anyone go to nyse.com to track the stocks they are interested?

That's not really going to happen, they SHOULD be done but who's going to bother (unless there is money in it), so until then we'll try our best to do so.

GLBSE has a fairly well documented and easy to use API now, documentation here:
https://glbse.com/info/api

It covers live streaming, buy/sell, poprtfolio and market data.

You think buy/sell would be improved by sizing down the bid/ask text? I was wondering on how to reduce confusion on this.

Hmm.

Code:
curl -kG https://glbse.com/api/BFLS/TICKER
gets me a "Not Found".
Code:
curl -kG https://glbse.com/api/asset/BFLS
gets me "could not connect to host". Am I using the wrong URL?

EDIT: Ah, second one works now. Must have just timed out that once.

I'm working on speeding up the site.

Expect significant improvements in the next few days.

I did the same thing.

As did I. :P

Re-posting from the other 2.1 thread ...

So ... at the risk of being perceived an insistant bloke ... whare's mah .csv history download ?

More seriously: this would be a *really* useful feature: my /portfolio page is
very long by now and is getting close to impossible to process by eyballs.

Another - probably simpler to implement - equivalent feature would be to have
the portfolio API call return *everything* that is visible in the /portfolio page.

Right now it only returns current stuff, not the whole history, whereas the
/portfolio page returns everything.

Maybe with an option ... something like:

https://glbse.com/api/portfolio/ID/KEY?opt=all

Right now, I am reduced to perl-parse the HTML output
of the /portfolio page ... giant PITA.

Thanks for considering the suggestions.

Hey znort987, I'll be adding csv for account details (buys/sells/deposits/withdrawals/transfers etc).

What would you think would be the best way to have this? By the month?

For the API we'll add a history function, where you can pull all your histories.

Looks good Nefario.  I'm looking forward to having some time to check out the API one of these days.

For users on the American continent there is now https://us.glbse.com

If you're based in the US this will be about 3-5 times faster than glbse.com

@Nefario - I read somewhere that there was no fee to issue a sub-asset, but I just issued some new assets and was charged a fee for the sub assets?  Has this changed?  I don't see a link to the fee schedule anywhere on the site? (I could be blind.. lol)

Hi Teek,
All you're fees can be seen here https://us.glbse.com/portfolio/fees after logging in.
That link shows from the asset page when logged in.

Regarding fees for sub-assets there has always been fees for them, and we've never said any different.

It also shows you the fee you will be charged right above the "Create" button when creating an asset.

You will be charged 8.0BTC to create this security, this charge is not refundable.

The new look is great, API is appreciated too (haven't looked into it yet, but will do soon).

I've almost made a wrong trade twice due to the following mixup:

I see "ASK 0.622" and instinctively go to put my own ASK there, type in the qty and price, and then realize that the button next to it is labeled "BUY", which is not exactly what I wanted to do. Maybe removing the words "ASK" and "BID" or making them much smaller than "BUY" and "SELL" would help? On Bitcoinica, for example, the BUY and SELL buttons are big enough that they draw attention first and there's no confusion.

I did the same thing.

As did I. :P
glad to see I'm notalone here...
