If anyone is looking to upgrade the S3 fans, I can verify these Silverstone fans do fit.  The connector needs the slightest of modification, getting rid of the plastic ridge at the 3 pin point.

yea i guess you can say there are few .   :) .

those fans are nice indeed with a max CFM of 170 if i read it right and most any PMW fan fits I have noticed just trim the Plug.

I'm gonna give that fan a try :).
 
I ordered two of these i have all so found anything  below a CFM of 100 + does not seem to cool as well as one with a high CFM of a 100 +  so I will  stick with the high CFM  fans with PM

I have not used these on S3's but have used them for cooling Habanero boards, they work great. Good fan.

one end fits with ease the other end the ethernet cable is in the way.  the fan is wonderful if you do this via  wi-fi since the ethernet cable does not get in the way. these fans  cool great and on the high setting sometimes max at 900rpm  still very quiet gear.

I am happy to announce success with the Corsair SP120 PWM (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00C249QNE/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00C249QNE&linkCode=as2&tag=marlyo-20&linkId=AT4BW6AGUSHXLRYG). With a room temp of 26c or less, I'm seeing device temps that have not exceeded 45c.  Usually, they hover around 41-42.

The fans are dramatically quieter and are suitable for home use (where, one would presume, the temperature of the space would also be well-regulated).  My wife, who was unable to stay in the same room with the two units before now reports that the calm sound of the fans is "pleasant".

While the high-flow stock fans will always be better, these are suitable if you need to cut down on the noise.

Some notes:

• Corsair sells a 3 and a 4 pin version of this fan. Get the 4 pin. Also, get the high performance one, not the "quiet" one. The difference in airflow between the two is dramatic.
• These connectors are keyed for a narrower power connector than used in the S3, but I was able to trim the key off of the center of the connector and it works perfectly.  
• The fans are not as tall as the factory-supplied ones, meaning it would be best to get some shorter screws. The original ones (if screwed in completely) get closer to the hashing board than I would like.
• It also appears that my pair of S3+ (B8) units are subtly different - one has straight fins on the heat sink, while the other has a slight arc.  On the unit with straight fins, the temps tend to be cooler at one sensor and warmer at the other; it also tends to vary in temperature the most. The one with curved fins seems to have a consistent temperature on both sensors and it doesn't seem to vary much.
• Both units are hashing at around 453, at 225mhz.

How many fans do you use per one S3?


I am looking at Scythe Grand Flex 120mm (SM1225GF12SH-P) (http://amzn.com/B00K1GV408) and I want to use only one fan on each S3 from the air intake side to reduce a noise.

I used two.

Did you succeded in getting rid of one of the fans...?
I have problem with the outlet fan spinning too fast (~6000rpm) and making too much noise.

I'd like to know how you managed to make it work at a descent temperature with only one fan...??

I actually prefer external fan (its cheaper), you can always buy those giant box fan and put on low speed. Generally the noise is low...

I tried to google it a bit... but could not find one for both S3 and PSU...
