Title: Bitcoin is going down - What Altcoins to buy?
Post by: yeponlyone on September 19, 2014, 11:04:08 AM
Ok so we are seeing a big decline in the Bitcoin Price. So I was wondering which Altcoins would you guys buy - the Altcoin price has also been going down.

I am thinking about buying Litecoin, Dogecoin and Darkcoin - maybe Bitcoindark or BisharesX?
What do you guys think?

You sure? What about the other Altcoins? Why do you swear on Litecoin?

Altcoins are a joke and tied to Bitcoin anyway. What's the point?

Guldencoin is trying hard as a alt. Will see where that ends up in 2 years from now.

(1) Don't panic and don't diversify your Bitcoin or Litecoin holdings or sell low.

(2) Peercoin would be the 'safest' and best choice alternative imho.

Peercoin is down nearly 30% in the last 24hours. Buy low or wait till 60% down?

do you have any little idea about the NXT ecosystem?

And do you have any little idea about the meanig of the word "SCAM"?

I hodl some BTC and some NXT because i think these coins have value. But certainly not some joke like Doge or some basic fork like LTC which doesn't brings anything to Btc.

Many blind haters claiming PoS coins to be a scam.

But IMO the PoS coins will be the future.

So buy NXT or QORA.

Also XCR and NODE seem like very nice investmnets.

Its up to you!

I won't comment on NXT or some of the other PoS coins.

Mintcoin is the strongest PoS only coin imho - the community is doing good things.

The only way to diversify away from Bitcoin is fiat

Nope. You can go from Bitcoin -> Precious metals, in minutes, directly on the blockchain

Easy. I've escaped Bitcoin swings, without ever touching fiat.
Zero-Fee P2P Gold Trading markets are now live. You have the choice to receive physical possession of assets, soon collection via dealers across the globe will be a reality, this is inevitable.

No need to try gambling your funds in a BTC denominated alt on a +% trend

Ive been in crypto for 2 years.  I would bet on coins that have had staying power and either a good dev or good community.  Check to see what coins are selling on ebay.

Dogecoin,Quarkcoin,Feathercoin,Blackcoin,Darkcoin,Peercoin,Natuliscoin, worldcoin, digibyte, litecoin, ultracoin, reddcoin, noblecoin, fedoracoin, primecoin, mintcoin are all great in my opinion

As for the new coins, i rather wait until they are more established...Too many scams, pump and dumps etc.

I'm not going to give any "picks" for altcoins since, as previously mentioned, they are all pretty much dependent on bitcoin.

However, I will recommend picking a coin that you think will be able to maintain a stable rate in the medium term (i.e. 3-6 months). When bitcoin price kicks up again, shift over and rebalance your holdings.

Just go slow, read research and learn. But generally, when BTC goes down all alts goes also. There are 9999 accounts made here, that will try to look their coin looks perfect and all others looks scam.
Just go slow!

The NXT devs did have to put bitcoin in at the start though to launch the coin. People are mad because they have a load of NXT, but they took a massive risk putting in BTC so they deserve to be rewarded.

i consider both XCurrency and Dark good buys atm. i only hold the first cause i like their platform more but i think they will both perform really good in the coming weeks from a trading point of few. both have more than just the anonymity to offer and differ in those features.

Title: Re: Bitcoin is going down - What Altcoins to buy?
Post by: SparkedDev on September 19, 2014, 08:58:51 PM
All i got to say on this is that id rather stick with btc or ltc anything els is just a quick pump and dump and they may are may not have a real value in the feature. There is ushally a rule in the financial world and it can be seen very easy in history, jpmorgan, perse and Rockefeller  all are examples. Who ever were their first rules all unless your that fucking smart to bluff your way and win. And in this case its btc and ltc. Its the reason paypal in the #1 payment processor online because no won can really match them its the same for ltc and btc.

So unless one of those coins is pushed hard enough and offered real money to cash them out on an exchange then they won't be breaking past btc since that is their based value.

Remember when ltc went down to a dollar? 1000 of those would have brought in $40,000 when it hit it's high back then. I'm gonna suggest LTC & DMD for now.

pre-mine doesn't always mean scam, although there are loads if dodgy basteds out there.

and if btc goes to 100,000 then all the alts will benefit for a little while...if only we could see round that corner :0)

Diversify some, not all your btc into some newer 2.0 technologies.  Perhaps 50% BTC, 25% BitShares and 25% Nxt come to mind first having a strong dev team and good community support.  There is a reason why they rank high on Coinmarketcap and all it takes is some due diligence to see this.

BitShares can be very difficult to get your head around as Bitcoin once was due to lack of good marketing documentation.  Here are some links to help people along:

Bitcoin will be back up soon enough. It's only down because of the Alibaba IPO on Wall Street. There is major hype regarding this IPO and judging from btcchina.com's volume it seems that people are dumping their BTC to purchase BABA IPO. This, like any other news, will die down and balance will be restored :D

Consider this - all altcoins are pegged to bitcoin, so they too are loosing in value with the price slide. Some might be holding or gaining, most probably due to either them holding their price or declining at a much slower rate.

Many blind haters claiming PoS coins to be a scam.

But IMO the PoS coins will be the future.

So buy NXT or QORA.

Also XCR and NODE seem like very nice investmnets.

Its up to you!

And NEM is exciting too. They are making PoI.

Also month by month more non-PoW crowd out PoW when examining the top ten. Right now 50% of the big ten aren't PoW. Each month it seems like another non-PoW makes it to the top ranks. In a year I think besides bitcoin and Litecoin there won't be any more PoW in the top 10.

PoW if you think about it is just stupid because you essentially waste huge quantities of energy just because the algo requires this.

PoS is a next step in the right direction, where you have decentralized P2P network and don't have drawbacks of PoW.

I hate the Monero spam but that's one coin which has been holding its' value for awhile now (don't own any myself).  NEM has also been maintaining its' value, despite BTC going down.

Then of course there are newer coins like NODE which (at its' low capitalization and somewhat high volume) will probably hold value or go up.

I'm someone who originally got into Bitcoin when we had prices over $800+ and I've had a net unrealized gain so far, just by keeping on top with alternates.

he probably means what to buy with BTC while it's dropping, so as to sell soon, and buy BTC again, but more, based on the profit from the alts.

I'm losing a shitload lately with alts, and I hate cashing out, so I'll ride this down.

I am about to get back to the cash value of what I had before the Karpeles pump.

I see the funny side.

_________

I will buy alts actually, for cash, paypal (scary), just cash them in to LTC, and I give you market price and you get immediate payout without the bad shit interest, hideously long wait or the paypal fee (which I will cover).

Genuine offer and a good deal for you.

<you can try by sending a LTC at a time, just PM me if you want out of this imploding market, and want to take as much cash as is possible.

since is gaining more popular everyday...

You could be right, but it could just the people that bought in at the 20s are pumping it.

It might survive, though, because it does seem to be regathering its reputation. Anyone with a brain cell knows that the very popular scrypt coins are not really threatened by Asics, no  more than Asics threatened BTC

Monero is supported by the majority of the oldschool Bitcoiners
(XMR) uses advanced CN technology that actually introduces real privacy

Too many coins to choose from but most people go with fancy pictures like a dog ( ohhhhh i have a dog at home so ill mine doge) lost of stupid people posting dog n cat pictures and on.... I have been lucky and made big with darkcoin prime-xi and burst. Realistically a dev makes the coin and maintains the algo to keep it holding together. Now the people us where suppose to mine it and let everyone know about the coin, and trade it. People depend on the devs to make and get them everything. when that happens i run run fast.  Why I made big on all three darkcoin prime-xi burst has good devs, but the people are letting everyone know about the coin in a good way. Now they dont behave like dogecoin or monero crazies cause they dont last long. Getting off topic go with my three.

I don't care which altcoins you buy, but I want to clarify some statements about Nxt - the network and NXT - the coin.

Sure the distribution of NXT fucked up, too many coins landed in the accounts of too few people. They were lucky! BTW there were only one dev at that time, BCNext, and he got 21 BTC for his work. AFAIK the distribution of the coins was transparent and he didn't hold back any coins for himself. So no rich "devs", only rich investors like you and me! That doesn't make NXT a scam coin!

I see a trend here that people argue that every coin which cannot be mined is a scam coin. Wake up guys! With mineable coins you give your money to big companies like KNC, decentralized home-mining with PCs and GPUs was a good idea but it's a thing of the past! I'd rather invest in a coin which is not mined and has a low energy profile, even if that means that I have to buy it from "stakeholders". They are guys like us so we keep the money "in the family" and don't give it to big hardware vendors (and paying our power bills - ouch!).

If you dare and dig deeper into Nxt, you will learn that "Nxt - the network" is built upon hard development work sponsored by the original stakeholders. Because these guys didn't sit on their coins but put out bounties for development achievements now we have some great features like aliases, asset exchange, encrypted messaging, digital goods store to name just a few. LOL, some of the assets on the Nxt Asset Exchange has even bigger market capitalization than some of the altcoins mentioned here as a recommendation!

Just my two cents.

I think that whole niche is very saturated, just like the pot coins.  It used to be the case that Sexcoin used to be worth a lot but now that isn't the case anymore.

I think the reality is if people want porn then they'll just use $Fiat or Bitcoin.

Grid coin has a nice idea about using hash power for research. However some of the research companies may not have the same interests as @home miners so to use pow it could be argued you need to have a separate @home community which isnt owned by a private company. Hard to do prob but the rewards and discoveries would be open to all..not privately owned.

I have been looking into many altcoins in the last few weeks. Personally, Dogecoin is what got me more interested and brought a slight understanding of the cyrpto markets. I personally have since sold off almost all of my doge though. Now I have gotten involved with Reddcoin, Potcoin and Sterlingcoin - these there in my opinion are fairly low on the totem pole but have lots of potential and a good solid dev team behind them. RDD and their social tipping integration seems to have a bright future. I love potcoin's ambassador program and their niche market focus. Further, Sterlingcoin just launched yesterday I believe and is pretty stellar dev team behind them. They have  good platform it seems and passed my smell test.

Cheers hope this helps and generates a serious discussion on these coins!

No one mentioned it's easy to move into fiat on respectable exchange ages like BTCe. Even without a connected bank you can shelter in the USD dollar and buy back BTC when you feel it's dropped enough. I had no idea this could be done. BTER does it also.

Monero (XMR)
Litecoin (LTC)
Dogecoin (DOGE)
possibly NEOS.

Everything else isn't likely to make it big league.

Quarkcoin - dead.
Darkcoin - strictly for college doofuses who get scared/excited by the word dark and masturbate a lot.
Peercoin - dead although has good volume for minor trades.
Bytecoin - a joke.
Boolberry - lost its mojo and will be redundant after XMR wallet.
duckNote - rebranded to darkNote. Disaster. (see Darkcoin).

I think you should try to buy Captcoin, why? because the only coins that is distributed are those which are the ones that were being typed using captchas. and today its value is very low but it is expected to rise after a few weeks or months.

so i think its a good choice to buy it when it is still in a low price :D

holding steady around USD$2 per kilo for quite some time now..its price in BTC fluctuates to reflect the $2 mark.  It has been interesting to watch the market show that this particular crypto currency has a value more closely tied to the dollar than to bitcoin.
Why?  low inflation, no premine, fair launch, strong community.

Too many alt coins out there, you can do your alt coins, of course, thats great, but it's just a dead end, no one will speak about ppc nubits or whatever outside the trader sphere.

I'd rather have a $1 coins that will surely rise with all this support then a $4 coins that will drop like a 90 years old women taking off her bra

definitely the ones that people on this forum tell you to buy, because that's the path to victory for certain.

try to do as little other study as possible and reply solely on the responses you get here, it'll work out fine.

you may as well buy that extra whatever it was you wanted now in expectation of the unbelievable wealth you will have.

By the time you buy, the miners are already dumping so you are selling at a loss.

Uro is the next solid alt to put your dough in. Kneed it for a year or two and you will have yourself a bakery shop to get your daily loaf from.

Exchanged and bought with many types of fiat at www.uroex.com instead of just regular alts exchanging to/from BTC.

Grab Maieuticoin (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=623884), stake your 1% weekly with a 6 month stable priced coin (actually it's going up recently, nice and slowly, no pumps here) while you wait for BTC to come back up

The Unobtanium experiment is an attractive possibility.  Why?  The bottom line is the price.  For little risk you can get some of only ~192,000 UNO before next reward halving.  See what the slightest uptick in demand does for UNO on the charts.  Price spent most of the last year in the 0.003 - 0.006 BTC/UNO range.  That means current prices around 0.008 - 0.01 BTC/UNO aren't anything yet with UNO getting rarer and in several strong hands already.

+1440 as well. NEM is also about to launch, and it will most likely skyrocket within the next 2 months. NEM has a lot of potential and is likely to become bigger than NXT, it has all the good sides of NXT (NEM is not a clone) but will be even a bit more advanced and it has a great distribution; 3000 original stakeholders with equal amount. NEMstakes available still at a rather reasonable price in the NXT asset exchange. Train is about to leave and the whistles are blowing!

XC comes to mind.... It seems to be very stable and has been for quite some time.

^ this

Since these two were so kind to quote me and give their pick:

The BTC price of XC when they quoted was right after a small spike (hitting 0.0017) at 0.0015; price in USD: $0.60
The BTC price of XC today (nearly three weeks later) is 0.0013; price in USD: $0.40

Not all so bad in terms of BTC; but in USD, a significant hit larger than the drop that BTC has taken.

However, like I said, the aim is a 3- to 6-month stretch. And its BTC price trend has been pretty decent.

That said, I'm not actually endorsing that pick, just stating facts...

...
NXT = Not Mineable = SCAM

Just difrent dystrybution model which coin you chose is up to you and your preferences ...
Becouse most people here are miners that doeasn't mean that all coins should be mined...

Scam or not is matter who made coin and how they use "premine" mostly premined coins are duped and
devs run away so people need big  awarness to shit like that but there are also legit premined coins.

In general people should think which coin i would use rather than which coin is best to invest only using alts can make them high not
"investing" today most easy to use is BTC later who knows probably those which will be fastes no blockchain download and secure.
Fast and minimal that is how word evolution is going all time just look around.

I feel more comfortable useful coins like Gridcoin (scientific mining) will turn this discussion.
This Oktober we will see a less complicated new client, that enables robust exchange
and we could finally have people understand mechanics of scientific progress that Gridcoin brings via BOINC-integration.

The Shadowcoin dev (rino) is the head of the mafia, he uses bots to manipulate the price of other coins.

USD, every altcoin is going down with bitcoin crashing. except maybe the fakey stablized ones...
seriously... nubits is a joke... to depend on fiat is exactly that, what cryptocoins want to avoid. so its fiat. you can keep usd as well...

NuBits is a quite successful joke so far.
Compared to USD you can transfer NuBits to your wallet¹ with short transaction times and the entity that issues this currency is not the FED but a decentralized autonomous corporation owned by the NuShares holders.

¹ plus you can easily transfer NBT to other exchanges (in difference to fiat) - admittedly there's only a few exchanges that have NBT listed so far (https://nubits.com/exchanges)... but hey, NBT is only roughly 2 weeks on the market!
