Check blockchain.info. no block for 8 hours! My transaction is still unconfirmed and I'm getting inpatients whats up?

You are using a service, blockchain.info, that has bugs in their programming.  There have been dozens of blocks in the past 8 hours.  The service that you've chosen to use is currently broken and so is failing to tell you about the latest blocks.

This is not new.  Blockchain.info has gotten "stuck" several times in the past year and failed to display blocks recently added to the blockchain.  They are beginning to get a reputation for this.

Instead of rewarding a service that doesn't seem to care about the experience that they provide you, perhaps you should refuse to encourage their bad behavior and should therefore switch to a new and more reliable service?

If you continue to choose to use the service, then you are contributing to the problem.

Consider using something like MultiBit, Electrum, or Mycellium instead?

Oh I thought this was a whole bitcoin thing. My tx was actually confirmed, just didnt show it on blockchain.info

Yeah blockchain.info is starting to suck. Once they fix it, i'm getting my stuff off there and just going to re-download a client. Unfortunately my wallet is on blockchain.info... Do not recommend using this ever again to anyone!

Do you have a backup of your wallet from blockchain.info?

If not, then you are a permanent loss of bitcoins just waiting to happen.

If so, then you don't need to wait for them to come back, you can get access to your bitcoins from your backup even if blockchain.info disappears.

I just got back into messing with bitcoin, don't really have much at all. Not to worried about what i do have. What do you recommend for windows client? An i think i do have a backup, but i already sent out a transaction, which now shows it's out of my wallet, but still lost in space somewhere i guess because they haven't reached where I sent them to.

Their service is not very stable at times. It usually takes a few hours to fix. It is a free service and still the best online wallet, shouldn't complain.

There are at least two or three other free online wallets that I'd rate at least as good, if not better, than blockchain.info.

I just tried searching my tx on all the other sites, says invalid, although the btc isn't in my blockchain.info account anymore.... affff

With blockchain.info, you need to create backups after each new receiving address you create. As long as you have a recent backup, you can reclaim your bitcoin.

There are other online services (and also desktop wallets too) where you only need to create a single backup (either printed out or written down). You may want to consider one of these...

(They include Armory, Electrum, GreenAddress, BitGo, and probably others.)

As long as you are aware of your risks.


That really depends on your usage.

If you are looking for top-of-the-line security, then you want Armory running on a separate offline computer.

If you don't want to be bothered with the disk and network bandwidth issues associated with running a full node such as Bitcoin Core, then both MultiBit and Electrum are good.

They each have their own "quirks" and benefits.  Of the two of them I prefer Electrum, but MultiBit is quite popular.

It probably has reached where you sent it to, but if wherever you sent it to is also using blockchain.info, then they probably don't realize it yet.

I really like and highly suggest deterministic wallets because they do not need periodic backups.  That is very nice for forgetful people like me.  I just back up the seed in a very secret and secure place and never have to worry about backups again.

So in answer to the questions in this thread "what should I do when I abandon blockchain.info" I would say use a deterministic wallet.

Trezor is my favorite however it is a hardware wallet and it cost $119.  If you don't want to spend money for a hardware wallet there are free software deterministic wallets (Wallet32 for Android, etc.)

Can you search for the Bitcoin address you sent the BTC to and see if the transaction shows up there?

Do this on some of the other blockchain explorers mentioned above.

I dont have any backup of my wallet. I only have the private keys written. Am I safe ?

There are a lot of if's here, but if you're sure it's your private keys that you wrote down, and if you're sure there are no typos, and if you never add any new receiving addresses to your wallet, than you should be safe.

Edited to add: and also if they're either unencrypted, or you are sure you know their password.

I had the same thought:  are you very sure you know you have your private key written down and not something else (public key, Bitcoin address, etc.)?  Also you must have all of your private keys, not just one.

Where did you get this number you are calling your private key?  How did you get it from the blockchain.info web site?

I should not have used the word written as I have not literally written them down anything with pen and paper. I'm not very sure what encrypted/decrypted things u r talking about regarding private key. I have used only one address on blockchain.info and have downloaded the paper wallet, which is a PDF doc, from their wallet dash board. That PDF has the address and the private key written on it.

If all true you are golden then, that one private key is all you need and you can sweep it into any wallet on the market pretty much.
