So the performance scales well. 3 times performance with 3 times computing units (2048/640). The 290x had the better hashpower,but was hotter and more expensive, so was better to have 2 980x's than 290s I think for X algos and others, not scrypt, the 970 could be the new R9 280x here. Interesting article anyway.
