Title: Much slower than expected HD6950
Post by: braunshedd on May 04, 2012, 12:47:09 AM
I just set up a XFX 6950 on ubuntu 12.04 with the proprietary drivers (from amd website), and have downloaded and configured poclbm.
Issue is looking at the hardware comparison, I should be getting ~300+ mh/s, yet I'm only getting 200mh/s. Not really sure what the problem is.
Any ideas?
flags used: -v -w 128 -f 1

Get rid of f1 & up the core to 850-915.You may need to up the voltage a little to get the core stable.

Drop the memory down to 975 or lower.Watch temps, around 70c is great.

I get 350-360mh/s with mine & they are the cheap ones.I have to have 2 fans each blowing em,one on the back, one on the bottom, pushing cool air to em.

Not all 6950's are the same so you'll need "play" with these settings.

Good luck!!

Will that really make 160 mh/s of difference? Is it the miner I'm using or something in the os perhaps?
Yep, that newegg link's the one I have too

I'm running Win7 with GUIminer,-w 128 -v.I'm running 11.5 drivers & 5/21/2011 GUIminer.For some reason the newer versions of GUI reduce mh/s.

I can get 375-390 mh/s,BUT my temp hits 85c,so I crank em down to get 70c-75c :(

BTW kick the fan to 100%,you'll need it ;)

It took some OC'in.I'm a gamer & gamer PC builder,so it was just like tweakin for a big match.

It might be your OS.I have no clue about Ubuntu,my software skills suck :-[

Don't run your fans faster than 75%! They will die quickly.

Well,I've been mining on my 2 6950's since june 2011 with the fans @ 100% & not a stutter.

Results will vary, but aftermarket heatsink/fans are cheap & easy to install.

So the consensus is just to overclock my way up?
