Title: There should be a public list of sold/bought accounts
Post by: sgk on September 23, 2014, 12:51:07 PM
As we all know, buying/selling forum accounts is allowed. But it becomes hard for other community members to figure out the authenticity of the opinions expressed from such accounts. A Legendary/Hero/Senior account may flood the forum with strong opinions and junior members would more inclined to believe them, not knowing the fact that the account might be bought with pure intention of publishing FUD or to make desirable impact on opinion of others.

What would help is a public list of all sold/bought accounts for everyone to see. This way at least other users can use caution before relying on opinions expressed from such accounts.

I don't know if there is any known way to ensure this, because most deals take place via PMs. But I strongly feel the need for this and would like to know what everyone else thinks.

Pointless and futile for this exact reason. Also hard to prove undoubtedly that accounts have been bought/sold and could lead to further problems. Also, you can't guarantee people would actually read it.

Yep, it would be extremely difficult to maintain a list accurately.

People selling accounts is impossible to prevent, which is probably why there is no rule against it.

Well, in theory it should be possible to ban it. If you ban it, no one can make an offer publicly.
If someone makes an offer via PM, those PMs can be reported to moderator and it can lead to a ban on who's making the offer.

hah, no. it's pointless having this as no account sales used for scamming purposes will be on the list.

How? The "rule" of "selling is acceptable" is because the admins think its not possible to ban or catch sold accounts.

If you ban it, no one can make an offer publicly.

While the threads are public, the names of the accounts are usually kept hidde AFAIK.

If someone makes an offer via PM, those PMs can be reported to moderator and it can lead to a ban on who's making the offer.

Unless both parties want to trade.

If account selling was banned people would just take the process off site, and unsolicited PM spam to buy or sell accounts will lead to your account getting banned anyway if the messages are reported, but those interested in buying accounts obviously wont report them.

We can make an unofficial list in Off-Topic board. Some people publicly admitted they bought/sold their account.

And they'll stop saying so inmediately if they are threatened with bans.

There are other forums besides this to advertise whatever accounts you want to sell if you are a seller, so reading PM's is pretty much pointless as well. It's a dead end. The best you can do is deal with it.

The vast majority of users don't mention that they bought the account, pretty stupid to publicly state so though.

What I wanted to convey was: people will fear making a buy request via PM due to the possibility that the message receiver would report the PM to staff and the person making the offer would get banned. (Unless the receiver is also willing to make the deal, so there's 50-50 risk factor for the person making the offer)

Its not a 50-50 risk because Im not going to flip a coin just because you (or someone else) writes me a PM about buying my account (I wont, any PM will be reported!). Just because there are two possible outcomes does not mean they are equaly likely. What hilariousandco is trying to tell you: people should allready be afraid of sending unsolicited PMs, because if they bother to many people -> ban.
