I haven't signed. You forgot that amazon is one of the most intrusive company in the world, establishing sales patterns, and spamming you with offers of things customers like you have bought! I fail to see how it's possible to like cryptocurrencies and amazon at the same time.

I've never shopped through amazon (my experience is from a few friends who did) and I never will.

I personally consider change.org petitions to be nothing more then liberals trying to tell one side of their sensationalized story to try to advance their agenda. The same is generally true with many other petitions.

I highly doubt that a company with literally millions of customers is going to listen to a group of 5,000 people (many of which are likely not even customers, nor will ever buy anything on amazon). It would be much more effective to make sure they are aware of the lowered costs and other benefits of accepting bitcoin.

Needless to say, I am not going to sign your petition

In theory it could, but I do not believe that a petition will change amazon's mind, especially for something like this.

Petitions are most effective to get companies to make social decisions, not business decisions. If a potential business decision is not in the best interest of a company then they will not pursue that business decision.

while the petition probably wont change anything directly, it should get a sliver of their attention and so could be a baby step towards getting them to adopt. many big corps will take a long time to decide these things, its unlikely a single event or action will get it done in one easy swoop, its probably going to take a combination of efforts and factors and theyll probably decide on it only after a few months of their own research. i dont doubt that a 5k person petition will pop up on their radar and with some luck plant a seed which might get a ball rolling somewhere down the line.

Seriously.. Amazon knows about Bitcoin. They don't see it as a good direction at this point. When they do, they will start accepting it. Petitions won't do anything, and hitting the 5000 signature mark is meaningless.

Maybe because they havent had 'enough' requests from their customers.
Trust me, good retailers listen to their customers. I worked for quite a few over the years and Ive been to plenty that do and dont listen. The results are predictable.
While 5k signatures probably wont get the whale off the beach, its will register on their radar and hopefully set off a chain reaction somewhere:)

So honestly, what happens after the 5000 petition is reached?

Does this sent to Amazon as proof that 5000 people want Bitcoin added as a payment option?  Not sure if 5000 signatures is enough to get the ball rolling on this.  Probably would need 50,000 to get a reaction.  I signed the petition by the way, just being a realist.

I also signed it, since it only takes a few seconds, but have the same concerns. I don't think any of the decision-making persons from Amazon will ever be aware of this one.

Maybe we should make a proper petition, with some hype on bitcointalk + reddit reaching 100k should be rather easy.

Getting Redditors involved would be a fine start.  That community is something else, especially when in comes to fundraising, awareness, and whistleblowing.

I have signed however I do not think amazon will make a business decision based on a petition (although they may use it to gauge interest)

It would be silly if we think this can change Amazon's opinion toward Bitcoin, even if this petition can reach 50,000.

Trying browsing "Recent" section, you'll see all the "petition sites" are full of stupid demands.

We don't know what Amazon's opinion of Bitcoin is, apart from speculating about it. This could be a gauge of interest.

You would need a lot more then 5k signatures to get amazon to know that there is serious interest in people paying with bitcoin on their website. They selling items to millions of people every day and if they sold items to 5,000 users every day in bitcoin it would probably not even be worth their time

why dont you guys use Gyft and save extra 3 %?

Amazon could potentially offer more then a 3% discount on using bitcoin with them. The cost per TX is ~3% however they have to deal with chargebacks and fraud that is not detected at the time of purchase which can add substantially to the overall cost of accepting bitcoin

Signed, right now I have to transfer PayPal -> Bank Account (4 business days) -> Coinbase/Circle (4 business days) -> Gyft -> Amazon purchase.

And no, I can't buy Gyft directly with PayPal due to some stupid fraud detection thing PayPal uses. Yes I brought it up with their customer service department.

So you base your opinion on Amazon through your friends experiences?  Let me tell you this:  Amazon gets shit done.  

They ship on time AND take care of customer service issues faster than any other company I've dealt with.  

Thanks to Amazon, I don't have to go out "shopping" like most folks do....  I simply order it and have it delivered to my door.  

Amazon Prime, Amazon music, Amazon streaming, and free two day shipping is enough for me.  

Give it a try, you just might find your Wal-Mart shopping trip less enjoyable.

Even 50k signatures (or potential customers) would be nothing to amazon. They have millions of people that buy from them every day. 50k people buying from amazon would mean they would make up ~5% of their daily sales, but all 50k would likely not buy something from them every day

I support this keep up the good work all we need to make them aware so they can reap the benefits.

Simply put: nope.

They will reconsider it for a little while, maybe do a little research and wait for more demand from bitcoin users. If there were to be 50k or even 100k users saying bitcoin would improve their service, Amazon would likely take steps to profit from bitcoin.

IIRC the petition got off to a much quicker start and if the OP had created a petition with a lower "goal" that was reached very quick then this *may* be different

Agree, for best effect, just buy from merchants that accept bitcoin. If their BTC sales are on decent level, others will follow very quickly.

While I understand the intention behind this, I really don't think Amazon gives a crap. They are too busy swimming in their fiat to bother with bitcoin.

I know what would definitely get their attention. Set up an affiliate store and use all amazon's ad copy for the products, the pictures, and links back..but then add a bitcoin option manually and tell them they can get it cheaper if they use bitcoin instead. Eventually enough people will be redirecting purchases to bitcoin and amazon will plug in...

Why don't you, instead of begging Amazon, support Overstock, Tiger Direct and others who WANTED to accept Bitcoin? Amazon was almost laughing at it and wrote they don't want it...We don't need them, they will need BTC...

uh why would there be a maximum? the petition can be signed by as many people was you want. Some petition on change.org were signed by 2M+ people.

It's a show of will and force, there is no final target. Change.org is just a media platform for collecting signatures, kinda like ebay is a platform for selling your stuff. You receive some free publicity thru the platform.
