Title: Bitcoin meetup in Shenzhen China 深圳
Post by: MemoryDealers on May 06, 2012, 04:02:55 AM
Myself and Yifu Guo (of www.bitsyn.com (http://www.bitsyn.com)) will be in Shenzhen until Thursday May 10th.

I am planning to organize a meeting about Bitcoin with local businesses I know in the Shenzhen area.

Some of the attendees will include companies with hundreds of employees and anual revenue over $100M USD.

It would be helpful to have additional native Chinese speakers who already understand Bitcoin.

If you are interested, please contact me at roger@memorydealers.com

I have rented a large room at a restaurant for Tuesday May 8th at 7PM for all of us to meet and discuss how to use Bitcoins to make more money in our businesses.
Most of the people I am inviting are vendors or customers of MemoryDealers.com,  but anyone who is interested is welcome to come.
Please invite any other business person who is interested in Bitcoins!
The more people who come,  the better!
My Chinese Bitcoin friend who lives in New York is also with me,  and will explain Bitcoins to everyone in Chinese.

Would there be some videos or text records of your meeting? I'm not able to get to Shenzhen, but I definitely will like to know what will have been going on there. :)

The use of bitcoin is pretty clearly illegal in China. Though there is no reason to expect illegality to stop Chinese people from using bitcoin, you might want to reconsider making recordings.

From what I understand,  bitcoin would only be illegal if used for trading physical goods.
It would be no problem for virtual items.

After speaking to hundreds of Chinese in the last few days,  not a single one have expressed concern over the legality.

There are currently no Bitcoin wallet apps in the China Android app store.
Can someone submit some ASASP?

In China,  currently no one with an Android phone can use Bitcoin.

That is my understanding too, but you shouldn't focus on the letter of the law in China. It is is more important that there is some sort of prohibition. This means you need to be cautious about doing things in overt and public way. I would not film or record customers and business associates in a public youku/youtube video. No one cares about bitcoin now. The video won't cause any problems as long as this remains true. If some day someone decides to care about bitcoin, then the video could be used as an excuse to make trouble for your Chinese customers and business associates. No need to make a video, so in my opinion you shouldn't. Of course, it is up to you.

Feel free to show them http://www.satoshidice.com/chinese.php (http://www.satoshidice.com/chinese.php)

Though not sure if that helps with the legality ;)

Go kick ass Roger!

Good luck!

And if there is ever a bitcoin meetup or conference in Hong Kong or Macau, let me know.

I think a mainland meetup is brilliant, by the way.
Despite its limited depth, the mainland economy is truly mind boggling in breadth.
Talk about untapped potential, especially considering the Chinese diaspora.

If you can get the word out, I think this meetup has potential.

Do let us know how it goes!  :)

Based on the response I have so far,  I am sure we could get a turnout of several hundred people if I planned it more than one day in advance.

Maybe I will put together something further in advance for next year.

Almost all the Chinese who have heard about Bitcoins are very interested.

I'm already sure that this trip will start a fair amount of legitimate business, paid via Bitcoins, between some Chinese suppliers and Russian customers.
(both countries have strict currency controls)

I will report back after the actual meeting.

This is China. We people do what we think is right by our conciousness rather than legal. Should 90% of the small enterprise disappear if the tax law is fully applied. The law itself here is illigal, as this government is not authorized by the people.

I'm glad everyone could come.

I would love to allow bitinstant.com (http://bitinstant.com) to allow anyone in china to buy Bitcoins for cash.

Can someone help me find a company in China,  that allows people to deposit cash in exchange for credit online?

An example in America is trustcash.com (http://trustcash.com)

Please help find something in China!

It is really true that Bitinstant.com  (http://Bitinstant.com)would like to allow everyone in China to be able to buy Bitcoins,  but we will need some help finding the right partner company in China.

It will need the following requirements:

1) No Chargebacks
2) Easily available across China.
3) Allows for automatic communication with the Bitinstant system via API.

Can anyone recommend a company like this in China?

I know a WenZhou guy here running a fairly large group of registrars and web advertising businesses. He was asking me about setting up something in competition with paypal a while ago  ::) not that I'd know anything about that  :-[ but I did give bitcoin a plug - this was 9 months ago. He's got a Hong Kong company for billing mainland customers (saves himself 5% or more not having to pay local provincal/city taxes). I can think of a couple of Chinese guys like this, would love to try and help you setup something, maybe even chisel myself a little piece of future China bitinstant processing!?  ;D  Banking is so good here, really you just need someone ballsy enough to start taking direct bank to bank payments with all the necessary guanxi to smooth out possible misunderstandings. Lots of big cities are actively courting IT startups and talented people. You can buy coins on Taobao using Alipay's payment processing (5% they charge).

I think there is plenty of interest,  and if you plan one, LOTS of people would come.
I will likely be back again in September and see about putting something together at that time.
