There are so many social networks these days and most of them are copycats or trying to be next facebook or twitter etc. I'll still take a look at the Ello.

What do you like about the "vibe"?

I just checked it out but found nothing special.  If they are not showing ads, how will they pay the bills if the site becomes at all popular?

You may have missed the hidden bit that state's you will be shown 'selective' or 'targeted' adverts, gleamed of course, from the same scource facebook and google use, oh, and it is invite only at the moment, or at least since I last looked last week ;)

Yeah I doubt it'll be ad-free, they've taken nearly $500,000 in VC funding so they have to monitize something. Plenty of other alternatives but they're not very popular yet:

The only way it can survive without monetizing is through Donations..! like Wikipedia/wikimedia...! but than again look what value Wikipedia holds and what kinda source is ..! its gonna be hard for a  social networking website to survive on donations.. lets see if they can do it.

Many companies in the past have exploded in membership after having an "invite only" phase.

Sadly, I don't believe this is one of them.  The site offers nothing new, nor the membership numbers that Facebook has.

Donation based funding is fine by me but I'm not sure if a large social network could survive without selling users information to third parties.

Not sure how long they can stretch it to run without ads.

Or they just sell data to third party companies to gain revenue.
