He advertised that the key is valid for a year. The key turned out to be good for only 290 days. He hasn't responded to my compliant.

While the keys may work (for some time) they are not legit and they're not a licence to actually use the software. Using the software without a licence is piracy.
In addition it seems this particular seller is actually selling the same key multiple times, causing them to actually get blacklisted rather soon. If it seems to good to be true, it probably is.
