Title: Is my wallet.dat safe?
Post by: pinnpe on May 10, 2012, 05:22:32 PM
Question?
Is my wallet.dat safe if I do a clean install of windows
,install http://sandboxie.com and then run my bitcoin client in sandboxie?

I would think that due to the fact, that I'm running it in sandboxie it would
be safe, but could this be a fact? I checked out this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQD_LB4gHzE
vid.
P.S. sandboxie currently doesn't run on windows8, but I mean windows7 ofcourse

I've used sandboxie before, but it's usually to keep thing IN, not keep things out. Other programs can still access sandboxed data.

If anything, run it in a virtualized OS..

Thanks for your responce nikanon.
But what if I... Run a clean install of windows,
Run a virtual Os and run the bitcoin client in sandboxie?

Actually what I'm trying to get @ is one of you a hacker
and can you try to hack a wallet.dat in sucha set-up. Till
now crackers have only been using the os vunerability to
get @ people's bitcoin. We need to search for existing solutions
because @ the end of the day we all want more security layers
in an Os so people can use bitcoins. The more layers we can @
the more people will feel safe to use it eventually.

Greatest scenario would be if you had a virus ridden computer
and could still use bitcoins, with a smile (even with bitcoin specific
virusses.)

Please sir don't worry about my name, bitcoins is way more important
@ the moment.   ;)

Can somebody please test the set up? and try to hack it with whatever
bitcoin hack there is @ the moment? And please share your findings. :D

You can keep your main Bitcoin wallet on s USB stick in a safe or vault. Then access it only on a  bitcoin dedicated mini- computer running Linux. Connect to the Internet by cable (no wireless!) for just a few seconds or minutes to access you wallet and make a payment/update your received bitcoins.
