Title: You from Australia & pissed off with the ATO!? Don't worry, read here - Options!
Post by: gtraah on October 03, 2014, 01:36:54 PM
For people wondering what their options are if they used to be COINJAR customers follow on. First of all, there is no way any normal person will pay 10% + 2% Fee Ontop of the BTC price when there are cheaper options, it's ALREADY its $10 Dearer to buy BTC in Australia, just have a look at the exchanges in Aus they are always $6-10 Dearer than the US.

Anyway - Forget Coinjar, even though it was not their fault, there is a new thing that has passed the senate hearing for a correction to the BTC tax law, this has passed and they have agreed to look into it. (Good news for us and AUS businesses)

So where can we buy BTC from then? Few different places in fact:

1. Cointree.com.au (http://Cointree.com.au) (No GST for the moment , not sure if they will follow Coinjar - most likely! But who knows maybe they found a loophole  lol) -- [Another good thing is you can pay your bills with this]

2. Igot.com (http://Igot.com) (No GST for the moment, as above comment ) [ As above, you can pay your bills with this]

But don't sweat guys check this next one!

3. Circle.com (http://Circle.com) (US based- I am now using and it is the best experience I have ever had buying coin and it is actually cheaper than ALL the AUS exchanges) Unfortunately at this present time only US bank accounts can be linked but the good news is >> if you have a Visa Debit Card or a Credit Card, this will work!!

-When you create a circle account, top right corner DROP DOWN BOX (USERNAME) > SETTINGS > LINKED BANK ACCOUNTS > ADD ACCOUNT> Once       you are done it is literally INSTANT, I just bought again right now, and sent to my cold storage, it even broadcasts it instantly AMAZING.

In the last 5 days since I joined I made around 7 deposits, every single one went into the circle account instantly without a glitch and again I sent it out of the circle account and BOOM straight away was instantly broadcasted showing in my Cold-storage waiting confirmation

NOTE: If you want to pay your bills but buy from circle simply transfer coins from circle to the Cointree/Igot account and pay your bill, they use the Bpay function on your bill - simple as hell and no fees charged.

Circle doesn't officially support non-U.S. cards, so it's hit and miss: http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/2i6qhy/official_circle_officially_only_supports_us_based/

Circle no longer allows you to buy from Aus it seems, not that it was working for me anyway.

Thanks for that. I was looking for another way to buy BTC after this controversial ATO ruling that affects both us and excellent exchanges like coinjar. I was actually prompted by this decision to buy more BTC prior to the gst being implemented to avoid the extra fee 10% which has obviously cost me dearly.

It's still working on my Bank of Queensland Visa Debit.

According to support, you can still attempt to add a non-U.S. card, they just won't guarantee it'll work.
