Title: Will you still speak about wonderful Bitcoin in family and friend gatherings?
Post by: Sevvero on October 03, 2014, 10:27:42 PM
"So how did that Bitcoin investment go?"

"Hey, we heard you were into Bitcoin, are you rich yet?"

"So, how is your pretend money coming along?"

The longer and deeper this bear market runs, the more impressed your family and friends will be when the next bubble finally comes around and they realize that you did not waver under pressure. This bear market is nothing more than an opportunity to shine.

My family and friends tends to ask very different, far more interesting, less myopic, long-term-oriented questions. Which I'm happy to answer. I've had, and continue to have, fascinating conversations with friends and family about bitcoin and related topics.

The questions you posted, if representative of the types of questions you've received or would receive from your family and friends, are indicative of your core problem, perhaps: Your family and friends are morons. Being surrounded by weak-minds can have a very negative influence on your own intellect.

tl;dr: Try to surround yourself with smart, interesting people, Sevvero. You'll be better off for it ultimately.

...and toward that end myself, I'm done with this thread :)

I try to live up to the impression that bitcoin is for money laundering by showing up at family gatherings with gold teeth and a mink coat.

Sounds like someone got burned.

Did you buy high and sell low?

Or

Did you give up your coins to a scammer?

How can we expect to socialize Bitcoin if we don't even talk about it with our own family... We need this types of small steps together for big impact.

I do sometime talk about Bitcoin with my friends. However, not all the time. Simply because not all of them understand how bitcoin work. I tried very hard to explain but.. oh well.. nothing work..

you should not talk about how rich or poor you are, you should explain the system in this case.

Think I'll wait until the price drops to below 100. Now might not be the right time as it will give bad impression about btc ;D

I speak about it all the time.

I can send thousands of dollars to anybody anywhere in the world,
I can do so without leaving my desk or my home for that matter,
I can do this without worrying about the bank ripping me a new one in fees,
I can do so in less time it takes you to put on your shoes before you go to your bank,
....
....

So you will still find me singing its praise even if it drops all the way to $1.

Just for interest, at $1 it will still be worth double your fiat as half your fiat will go to the bank in fees.

He probably just sold his bitcoins as the price is dropping. However WE WILL STAND BESIDE BITCOIN! THE NEXT MAJOR PRICE JUMP!!!

I personally never speak about Bitcoin with friends / family as in how many coins I have, but I did tell them about it.

Their response was that it's just a scam, or another ponzi and for that reason they won't use it and probably never will.

The only thing non tech people hear is the scams, mtgox, hackers, etc. The media here 99% of the time only covers bad news.

People who talk about money all night at parties are crass and boring. Tech talk is too nerdy and wears listener's patience. Economics...please no.
I try to have fun when I visit with friends and family. They already know what btc is (thanks to me) and they care about me, so if they've heard of these lows they might express concern, or steer clear so as to not embarrass me.
We get together to enjoy. The few people I know who have brought it up recently, were inquiring as to my situation, hoping I wasn't being ruined or asking if I had changed direction.
Btc is transitioning, in 5 years every one will be using it. Whether they realize it or not.
Plus I paid ~60$ each for my coins.
Not worried  8)
