Check these out:
IRS 501(c)(3) Public Charities That Accept Bitcoin
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=758674.0 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=758674.0)

I've personally sent money to several of these in the Humanitarian, Social, Religious section.  Most the ones on the list have a well-developed and credible web presence.  That they have done the hard work to secure the IRS certification also speaks to their longevity and investment in their missions.

I am pretty sure the list more or less ends here, but even donating to them is not the best idea as their site could easily get hacked (and the hacker would change the donation address and tag their "new", fake address).

There are a huge amount of donation scams out there and will continue to have them due to the anon and irreversible nature of bitcoin.

yeah that is why before doing any donations i wanted to be sure it was a legit chairty that would be on the receving end... I ususally use my btc for gambling purposes and only feel its right to give to less fortunate with any big wins...

So if I donate 1$ how much of that will go to the animals?

If you donate 1$, animals will get 1$. Neither I nor bitmarket.pl ever took any fees on these donations.

EDIT. Posted this from my other account by mistake lol.

This is not quite accurate. Charities, like all other organizations have expenses and bills to pay, and in the case of charities are paid out of donations.

Charities have an efficiency ratio, which measures the percentage of donations that actually go to help the cause they are supporting. There are many charities that have a very low efficiency ratio, sometimes below 33%.

It would be nice if the community can make a collective list. I know there are people on the forums who have a focus on their own various charities.

There is this really amazing organisation called Art in All of Us and I just recently convinced them to start accepting bitcoin. They are my first "big catch" since I started evangelising. :)

They work with children all over the world but especially in less developed countries. Their programs have reached almost half a million children across the globe. They are a registered organisation both in Belgium and in the US. This is a summary of their activities written by them:

Quote
Art in All of Us (AiA) is a not for profit organization based in Belgium and in the United States (501(c)(3)) that promotes tolerance and cultural exchange through art. Backed by organizations like the UNICEF, SOS Children Villages, Fundacion America and important network of volunteers, AiA’s activities have reached more than 450,000 children and 4000 schools in 193 countries.

You can donate bitcoin here: http://artinallofus.org/single-donation.html (http://artinallofus.org/single-donation.html)

Also, if you have any comments regarding how they implemented the donation buttons etc. please let me know and I will forward the info to them. They just enabled this two days ago, please make them happy and show them that it really made sense to do this!

Not all charities work the same pal, especially in different countries. Our charity is getting other donations and support from companies and schools, see the list here (http://mamglos.pl.tl/Pomagaj%26%23261%3B-nam.htm/)
There is also animal pharmacy shop and income from that goes towards bills and running expenses.
For example here (http://mamglos.pl.tl/-Rozliczenie-zbi%F3rki--k1-10-.-2013-k2-.htm/) you can see official donations statement. (I know it's in polish, but it basically says they spent everything what they collected on food and supplies for animals. No bills or taxes.)

May I commend the list I edit here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=758674.0

It is the best collective list I know of anywhere, and I constantly review every other list and resource I can find, to keep it comprehensive and up-to-date.  I just added one more public charity this morning, after reading a recommendation on this topic thread.

I ask for everyone's help with this list.  It is very much a work in progress.

I only know one, but this not pure donation
It's site where we buy video games & 10% amount of money donated to some charity

The site is : humblebundle.com (http://humblebundle.com)

It would be nice if the community can make a collective list. I know there are people on the forums who have a focus on their own various charities.

WOW, that's good idea.

I live in Boynton Beach, FL and I recently assisted RU4ME Pet Rescue, Inc, a 100% volunteer animal rescue organization, with getting set up for a Bitcoin merchant account through Elizabeth Ploshay at Bitpay.   This organization runs adoption campaigns out of the Boynton Beach, FL PetSmart each weekend and they have a  group of incredible volunteers who house the animals during the week.  They are in need of funds to pay back vet bills as vet bills make up the vast majority of their monthly expenses.  They are the type of organization that would appreciate even the smallest donation and one of the great features of Bitcoin is that it makes sense for micro payments.

Here are some helpful links.  I realize there are many very worthy charities on this forum.  If anyone has the ability to donate even a small amount to these guys, I know it would be put to good use.

Dabs charity
Say, what?  What is 'Dabs charity'?

I'm always looking for new ones for the 501(c)(3) list.  Maybe this is one?
