brilliant pic odolvlobo

especially the other reason. that pic is reference to these guys suggesting they were in number 10 to discuss tax ruling. when infact it was just a tourist photo opportunity outside number 10 and that tax meetings are not done in number 10. they are done in the HMRC HQ or parliament.

but yea the nefario reference is a good point too

nah just quotes that nefario was the instigator to get HMRC to decide on UK Tax decisions. as you can read by the very link you provided. HMRC were not in the building and tax was never the topic.

Where is HMRC coming up? All I know is that FCA was there and they claimed exactly that http://blog.coinfloor.co.uk/post/78224752529/coinfloor-attends-financial-innovators-summit (http://blog.coinfloor.co.uk/post/78224752529/coinfloor-attends-financial-innovators-summit)  There, Nefario had a chance to talk with FCA representatives, the Treasury, the Number 10 Policy Unit, the Department for Innovation and Skills and Metro Bank last year.  8)

I've always wondered of what it sounds like when someone gets zhoutonged? Is it like a "Bzzzt!!" ... or more like a "Zap!!", followed by all the BTC in their account disappearing. I imagine it's got the be pretty violent.

nefario when part of the UKDCA* and was spouting that he and his team spoke to HMRC and used that picture(outside downing street). which infact was not the case. the truth which came to light later that the downing street meeting was under the guise of coinfloor/bitprice where they were merely speakers about regulation NOT HMRC, and that their actions has not in reality done any real world changing or government policy moves in regards to regulation, nor tax.

nefario is now no longer part of coinfloor, UKDCA*, etc and the about pages of UKDCA* have been worded slightly differently now, to sound slightly less like they lobbied HMRC into the tax decision.

*UKDCA is a small copy of what was suppose to be a UK foundation for bitcoin, but many seen passed the lies of power/persuasion they pretended to have and seen UKDCA was just as bad as the american bitcoin foundation, infact worse as they didnt even have coders working on the protocol.

not sure what projects nefario is now into, as i just stay away from anything with lies and scammy plans, but rest assured every project he has been involved in has had a certain amount of deceit.

Gee, I thought at most somebody would tell me to go Google it, and I already did. So that way I could just respond with "it isn't on the first 2 pages" and its not exactly easy to find criticism of them here either.

Though I would rather just do that than carry through with your suggested approach.. Which you must have done. I'm guessing from your tone it wasn't cheap.

[Bitcoin Foundation pic]
Whilst I think this is hilarious, kudos, we need The Bitcoin Foundation to be a thing and leave its sketchy past behind.  A bona fide non-profit representing Bitcoin in a professional manner.  Take a look at what they're doing re the NYDFS "Bit License" proposal, for example.  Or the initiative for standardisation and a Bitcoin symbol.  This is important stuff and let's face it, we (for the most part) forum dwellers aren't going to achieve nearly as much.

He released the source code of a site "bitcoinica" (similar to bitfinex today). He did this without permission. That was bad enough itself, but it turns out the source code included an API key to mtgox which was also used as password for LastPass. Somebody figured this out after he released the source code which resulted in a theft of 40k USD and 40k BTC. (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=93074.0)

Also this may be of interest (genjix is the username of amir taaki):
For me tbh, I could care less about people like Roger Ver who have a lot of money lost because they have lots more.

Amir,  I look forward to karma coming back to get you.
Believe it or not,  losing 24,000 BTC because of an idiot like you, HAS HAD A BIG BIG IMPACT ON MY LIFE!
People with attitudes like yours give a bad reputation to our entire movement.

Do the world a favor and quit your involvement with Bitcoin.

Sincerely,
Roger Ver

Amir,

I've refrained from getting involved at this point, but how dare you say something like this.

For me tbh, I could care less about people like Roger Ver who have a lot of money lost because they have lots more.

Do you know how much damn work Roger has done to get where he is today? Do you know how many sacrifices he has made for Bitcoin?

Wait...you don't. Know why?

BECAUSE YOU RELEASED THE GODDAMN SOURCE CODE OF BITCOINICA WHICH HAD THE MTGOX API IN IT WHICH LED TO THE THEFT OF ANOTHER 40K BTC AND WHO KNOWS HOW MANY USD.

Your fault! No one elses! How dare you say "Oh, I need time off." Please, I've heard that bullshit before.

Oh, and next time you trash and break a Segway in Vienna that Alex paid for because some fat girl offers you a hug...DONT RUN AWAY AND LEAVE THE SEGWAY IN THE STREET!!!!!! (true story for whoever wants to know. Roger, Erik and myself were there)

-Charlie

So yeah, it looks like he made people lose a lot of money and "could care less" about it since they "have lots more".

Amir Taaki, Patrick Strateman and Donald Norman are all very special people. It almost seems like everyone involved in the first three years of Bitcoin should just back out quietly and let new people try it for a while.

Many thanks for the links. I've heard about the bitcoinica affair a lot of times and I never bother to check what it really happened. Eventually it seems I have all the info I need to get an idea of what was going on.

As an 18 year old, Pierce was making $250,000 a year and held 1% of the company's shares, a board member describing him as "the guy who could tell us what Gen Yers were likely to think". Pierce resigned from DEN in October 1999, along with the site's founders, after a scandal in which those associated with the company were accused of sex trafficking.

Think of it this way, you weren't here early enough to get screwed over. You came in to the game just in time to watch btc skyrocket and actually profit. All of us bitching about these assholes are only doing it because we're bitter and lost coin to them.

The problem is greed. Once people discovered that bitcoin really is money it attracted the usual suspects. Tech savvy thieves and con men love BTC because it is convenient and without penalty. The police are years behind the technology and without a solution to the trans-national nature of most criminals who denominate in bitcoin. These bad people exist wherever there is wealth to be stolen. Nobody likes this.

The speculators love it because they can play games that have long ago been banned in most markets. Bitcoin users rarely favor regulation, but not everybody understands the repercussions of that. You must do your own homework with bitcoin and completely understand the economic activity you are engaged in. Speculating in a wild market is very risky. People often try, fail, then complain about bitcoin because it didn't meet their expectations of being something more than money.

I find that using it as an online payment method is where you find it's utility and strengths. It's fast and final, I do not risk my identity or provide access to my money, and it costs me only pennies to send money anywhere on the planet. If your interest in bitcoin is to get rich then you should know that it is unlikely unless you have some great business idea and the resources to get it funded. If you just want a secure, fast and inexpensive way to send money then you will love bitcoin.

I want to get this out in the open because it is the kind of thing that will generate conspiracy theories:  I'm going to give a presentation about Bitcoin at CIA headquarters in June at an emerging technologies conference for the US intelligence community.

If what I read is true, Amir also met with them at roughly the same time.

This was pretty much at the time when everything went downhill. Coincidence ? I think not.

I found this thread while looking through old posts; its highly educational and could probably use a serious update.

Here's 5 recent additions to start with:

I'm sure there's several more worth adding, have at it.
