Title: List of sites accepting mBTC
Post by: bearbones on May 13, 2011, 08:38:56 PM
Considering recent inflation, I think this is a good idea to start dealing in smaller denominations, such as the mBTC.  So far, it seems there is unanimous agreement (http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=8185.0).

This transition will be easier if there is a concerted effort to convert to the smaller unit.  For Bitmunchies, I simply made it an optional currency, with BTC default.  I'm starting us out by listing those I found in a quick search of the forum.  As you can see, I didn't come up with much.  Things move quickly around here.

bitmunchies.com
mBTCasino.com

If you know of a site not listed here which accepts mBTC, post it.

If a merchant accepts bitcoins, why wouldn't they accept mBTC if the item they were selling was cheap enough? Seems to be making double the work.

I guess accept was the wrong word.  Support is more accurate.  I am sure no one is turning down mBTC, but their shopping carts probably don't support them either.

I will accept 1000 mBTC for my piano album.  :P

Agreed though, people should start building support for more decimal places.

I'm not sure if it's a good idea from the point of view of merchants. What looks better:

Buy this awesome pen for only 100 mBTC!!!

or

Buy this awesome pen for only 0.1 BTC!!!

The second price looks like a better deal... psychologically ;)

Of course prices like 0.00001 would be hard to read so at that point people would probably switch to mBTC.

First of all, I'll keep my Buts and Pens separate.  Secondly, 0.1BTC looks better.  You'd get more sales with a price like that.

I have to keep catching myself... I think, "Oh yeah, I'd pay 5 BTC for that!"  Then, "Oh wait, that's $40 now..."  There's definitely a psychological sales advantage to being able to show lower numbers.

I think I would avoid the term mBTC for now, and just stick with support for more than two decimal places.  Reason is, confusion for new people coming on to the scene.

I think you are correct that the important thing is support for another decimal place.  That is actually what prompted me to add support for mBTC, as it equates to the same thing.  I also agree that it is a psychological advantage to the shopkeeper.  I can't think of an easier way to phrase it, though.
