Title: [ANN] Ravenbit NODE physical coin
Post by: mrbrt on October 12, 2014, 04:36:46 AM
Ravenbit’s (https://www.ravenbit.com) newest coin "NODE (https://www.ravenbit.com/node)" is now for sale.

https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=https://i.imgur.com/IicajQL.png

The approximate NODE mintage (https://ravenbit.com/node/mintage/) is 1,000, which includes 50 Limited Edition coins numbered 01 to 50. The limited edition coins are priced at $25 and the standard edition (approximately 950) are priced at $20. A felt pouch, coin display stand, air-tite coin holder and sticker are included with each purchase of both editions.

The reverse now features a 15mm square inset for application of a QR code. No more labels required; regular plain paper will work just fine. Using the QR code generator (https://ravenbit.com/qr/) makes it simple to generate an appropriately sized QR code to allow for easy application on the back of the coin. The QR codes are held in place by a destructible transparent hologram, which allows for easy scanning of your public key - You can have a DIY physical bitcoin in only minutes

Lastly, I have changed the packaging of the coins, so shipping has been lowered across the board,
with the most drastic cuts to orders shipped outside of the United States. Currently, shipping is a per order flat rate of $2.99 to the U.S., $3.99 to Canada, and $4.99 Worldwide.

Out of curiosity, are all limited editions sold in order of the order number? So coins 10-17 were sold to the first few orders of the new series via your website.

Coin #s 10-17 were reserved via several PMs shortly before launch from past customers, otherwise, the limited editions are sold as orders are received or requests for reservation are made.

Remember that coin #'s 1-9 will be auctioned off, so you still have a chance at a lower number.

Which coin number is the lowest available ?

I'm waiting for a response from a customer that reserved 2 coins, to see if he/she placed their order already. Depending on that response the lowest coin available is either #24 or #26. (not including coins numbered 1 through 9, which will be auctioned off in the near future).

Thank you and no I didn't check anyones prostate after that. I prefer latex gloves, because they don't leave a lot of dust particles behind like soft gloves (made from cotton/wool). I want a coin that is as clean as possible without any dust on it/in the air tight casing. ;D

Sorry buddy couldn't resist just struck me as funny :D. It's a great idea to wear them much better than soft (fabric) gloves, gives total protection for the coin like wearing a condom on your fingers.

No worries man, I had to read that sentence a few time before I got that you were teasing me about the gloves.
"Latex gloves, the hand condoms for your precious coins! You don't want them to be dirty, right?" ;D

But but... I never wore latex gloves before D: I just recently purchased a package so that I could hold my Kialara Physical Bitcoin (http://imgur.com/a/kQvnu#0). I didn't want to mess it up.
After that I started wearing them if I handle a coin, because well, it's a lot better. :P

The last 3 auctions for the NODE Limited Edition coins are now running:

Auctions
Coin #7 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=851578.0) - Ends November 12 @ 2pm EST
Coin #8 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=853380.0) - Ends November 13 @ 11pm EST
Coin #9 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=853385.0) - Ends November 14 @ 2pm EST

This is your last chance to get an individually numbered NODE limited edition coin (47 of 50 have been sold)

Announcement
The details are still being worked out, but I will begin offering fully assembled coins in the near future. There will be a minimum order (tbd), and each minimum order a/k/a "set" will have a unique "mint mark". For example, all of the standard edition node coins have the "R" mint mark. The fully assembled coin mint marks will begin with the letter "A" for the first set, and then "B", "C", etc. There will only be 1 mint mark per minimum order. Using mint marks will allow for easy identification of the coins source and provide increased collectibility/tradability. The plan is to offer both encrypted private keys (only you will know the private key because you will generate) and unencrypted private keys that either the user generates or Ravenbit generates. It is likely I will begin by only offering the sets for sale exclusively via the forum, and it is also likely the first couple of sets will be put up for auction because this is the fairest way to release the "early letters". Check out the Ravenbit blog (http://www.ravenbit.com/blog) and here for more updates.

I've received my coin yesterday and it's really nice.

I think QR code should be done with gold background - isn't it better than white ?  ;)

Nice picture!

Gold background is not a bad idea, as I think it might make a more seamless transition between coin and QR code. I'll look into it.

Just a 3.5? That is an insult, you should sue them for making you look bad. ;D
No, but seriously, it's a nice review, even though I disagree with the rating and that the market is limited. I have bought so many coins lately.

I agree with both sentiments of yours, bitcoininformation. I think they should have given the Node coin a higher rating, and 1 of only 2 "cons" they had listed was- "Coin form factor not the most practical way to keep a bitcoin cold wallet"    But...   you're reviewing a physical Bitcoin wallet...   So I hope they at least list that as a "con" for every physical Bitcoin wallet they review from now on.

Also disagree with them saying the physical Bitcoin market is limited, and they used their past review article from September as an example. Except- all of the coins reviewed in that article are still available...  most of them straight from the manufacturer even (not the Casascius coins, obv.).

But all things aside- Congrats on the good review and publication, Tom and RavenBit! I have all of your coins so far except for the new silver Node, and love each one of them! Keep up the good work! Will get a fine silver Node as soon as I can as well.

Heh - I think it is a fair review, and certainly more coherent than the Bitcoin Magazine review of the Ravenbit Satoshi. I didn't ask Jon how he came up with the 3.5 rating, but I do agree the application of the QR code can be "fiddly". However, "fiddly" and "DIY" kind of go hand in hand. The physical bitcoin market is certainly not limited, but you may have to wade through the forum a bit to find some of the different releases.

Yes, the NODE is still available in the "gold" for $20, copper starting at $19 (price varies depending on individual number) and fine silver at $79. Send me a PM and I can send you a total BTC amount and payment address or you can order directly from the ravenbit.com. Shipping to the UK generally takes from 4-7 days.

Agree on the coin form factor and even Casascius is still selling aluminum rounds direct from his website (the last time I checked). Thanks! 8 NODE Silvers left!

I suppose if its my only option to get a single, I'll still do it.  Perhaps if there are several US buyers, one person could distribute the rest to those in the US.

1) I lowered the minimum purchase to 10 coins, since they will be in 10 coin rolls anyway. Volume discounts at 20 coins and 100 coins.
https://ravenbit.com/product/node-bronze/

2) Some of the remaining 15 are used for testing and some will be sent out to be graded. I'll likely (no guarantee) sell the graded coins directly on my website or auction them off on here or both. This is months away though due to the turnaround time.

Very cool, looking forward to the 20 coins (wondering who bought the other 20 so far ;D).

These holograms definitely look spectacular and I can't wait to see them in person; all the other Ravenbit coins were great so far.   :)

I nearly bought them* when I first got the email so I'm glad I didn't as you refined the pricing structure since the email went out.

I really like the holograms but can't justify buying a whole roll.
If someone sorts an EU group buy I'd take one or two. However, seeing as the coins have different coloured text on the hologram whoever organises it would need to find a random way to sort out who gets which coin etc. That way everyone has the same chance of getting one of the rarer ones.

I got two colors in my roll: a green with * and a blue with ****. The coins are nice. A little bigger than I wanted, but nice. I wish more coins were the original casascius 1 btc size.

Very nice, I had a similar take as well but the hologram just looks awesome!   ;D

I personally do not have an issue with the size as I would rather have the poker chip than a half dollar.  Here are some pictures:

There is not one. Just the first bits of the address.
You can see a public list of all the of the coins here:
https://ravenbit.com/2015/10/06/amended-node-bronze-public-address-list/

There is also one for the brass coins.

Thanks :)
Thats not a very smart idea. Because you can't redeem the coin when needed. First you need to get a list from somewhere and so on so on...
I dont like that.

Uuuuh, you do know that you don't need to know the public key to redeem a coin, right? You only need the private key, which is inside the coin, and from that the public key is generated as well.

Yes, any wallet can get the public key from the private key. The private key is the only thing you need to have at hand (and it's always inside an assembled coin). This means that if you have a already assembled coin, you only need to remove the hologram and import the private key. After that you can spend the balance that was on the address linked to the coin.

I hope this helps. ;)
