Title: Antminer S1 question
Post by: K210 on October 12, 2014, 08:00:15 PM
Can the antminer S1 connect directly to a computer and mine through cgminer? Also how good is the wireless, is it reliable enough to use 24/7?

it does not even need to connect to computer once the setup is done, it could be connected directly to the router either via ethernet cable or wirelessly.

yes it is, i had a bunch of S1 working for months each connected by the ethernet cable to the ethernet hub, which was in turn connected to airport express, which was connected wirelessly to my router. Hashing was stable and as expected. I preferred this setup. Others reported using S1 wireless antenna directly with or even without an additional antenna rod.

You can run a local stratum proxy with BFGminer and connect S1's to it using   --stratum-proxy <port> and connecting the miner to the ip of the machine.

I found that using the Built in wireless on my S1, with the power set a little too high, it jammed the signal to my Remote Garage door opener  ;D

S1 Wifi can work but some units may under perform the Wi-Fi Feature.  It is designed to be used on the Ethernet Connection setting.

if you need to control the S1 via your own cgminer or other BFGminer, you can by using the proxy as others posted.  Im sure there are many other tweaks you can use that are not officially supported but S1 is one of the flexible lines of Antminer from Bitmain.

Yes, it can work, you just need to set the ip for each miner correctly...

I agree the WiFi just depends on the particular unit. I have around 80 S1's and it seems half of them can use WiFi with no issues, and the others just do not work. Just add an antenna and see if yours is a "good" one or not.
