I have to say the best game I ever bought has to be final fantasy 10. I love that game, the mini game inside it kept me from beating the game. lol ::)

So whats the best game you ever bought?

A lot of the FPS games today are really derivative, so there's not a lot of improvement with each new wave of FPS games. For my money, Halo 3 was leaps and bounds ahead of anything that came before it for online multi-player. There have been better games since probably, but that was the first great one for me.

But as for what's the best game? I would have to say Super Smash Brothers for N64. Hands down the most fun I have had playing video games. Me and my brother would play that for hours at a time.

Final Fantasy 1, on release day. I had to nag the shit out of my parents for it. I spent the better part of a year with my friend trying to figure it out. No internet, nothing but rumours from class mates and the occasional Nintendo Power or EGM.

Dragon warrior 1 was a close second. We didn't beat both until years later.

Probably Minecraft a couple of years ago. Spent way too long playing that. As for Final Fantasy, I liked the older ones better.

Off topic, but man, those were the days.  I remember the fun trying to solve a level by talking with your friends.  No instant google soup like today.  :)

Best game I ever bought would be Legend of Zelda for the NES. I was around 10 at the time and I remember saving up my allowance for weeks. I did lots of odd jobs around the house and for my parents friends as well.  Fisrt game I ever was able to save for and by outright with my own money.  Was a big accomplishment at that age.

Still to this day one of the best games ever produced.  I still play it from time to time on my Nintendo emulator for the PC.  Been trying to finish it for a long time again on the PC but the emulator keeps losing my game progress. They seem to be really finicky with these types of games that require you to push and hold the reset button while you turn it off.

Same thing always happens with Dragon Warrior, which I am still to ever finish.


Nintendo Power was great as a kid.  I remember waiting for the new one to hit stores so I could run out and buy it, ended up subscribing to it for years. 

I remember calling the Nintendo Hotline a few times as well for certain games growing up.


Yeah, we were definitely forced to think as kids to beat the games.  I remember being stuck for ages on certain games.  Beating games back then without cheats and minimal help sure was a lot more satisfying.

I gotta say Final fantasy 8. Its still my favorite game ever.  :)

There are so many good games out there. I myself played so many... I need to differentiate between the best game and the game I spent most time on. I spent most of my time with Battlefield 3 and other various multiplayer games. But I think that truly amazing experience are old school single player games like Fallout series or Resident Evil...

Did anyone ever play Command & Conquer: Red Alert for the computer? It was real time strategy game set in WWII, except the Russians had chrono-technology so you were basically re-fighting WWII as the Allies to keep the Russians from taking over Europe.

That's my all-time favorite computer game.

Zelda is in my top 5, I'm probably the same age as you and it was slightly too advanced for me when it came out, again beat it years later with cheating. I remember having pages and pages of hand drawn maps and passwords for different games. Faxanadu was another great one. The games back then had little guidance about what to do, mostly because of lack of storage capacity, but it forced one to spend weeks wandering around stuck.

In dragon warrior 1, we finally found Edricks armour, once we had BBS  access when I was about 14-15. That took about 5 years to find.

FF1, Dragon warrior, Faxanadu, Zelda, Megaman 2.

I beat FF1 last year over the holidays in a few hours with a game genie emulator. Going back with an emulator does ruin a lot of my memories. From the perspective of a child and 25 years, they seemed so much more advanced and indepth than they really are.

I never really bought any games, since my cousin had everything lol.

I say play as many as you can by going to friends house.  :D

I had that running on my 486 slc 25mhz, good game. We spent lots of time taking over the schools lan to play it.

This was the first time I had ever seen an NES game. It literally blew my mind and I spent the next 15 years immersed in all things gaming and game programming.

Well it would have to be "The Double" on the spectrum. I had so many hours on that game it doesn't bare thinking about. In fact any football management game was good on the spectrum. Also PGA Tour Golf when it first came out for the Amiga, oh, and who can forget Monkey Island.... ahhh, those were the days :)

Recently it would just have to be Max Payne 3. That game was electrifying and addictive; those end enemy kill shots, awesome :)

Bought the new expansion for wow today and 30 days of playtime. Wanted to get the whole experience with playing 6.0.2 and then be ready for Draenor.  :)

That was the real challenge of the game. Beating ultimecia was a joke, you didn't even need a walkthrough to beat her.

The best game I ever bought was The Darkness II.  That game was really edgy and kind of controversial and a lot of people did not like it, but I found the combat to be incredibly fun and the plot was kind of like Inception.

Starcraft 2...

I used to play that until my head felt like it was going to explode... Great game, But I got a headache just thinking about it  :D

True, but I already get onto my kids for spending so much time playing video games. That is all they ever want to do. I'm too much of an outdoors kind of person to see myself spending all of my free time playing a video game.

The best game ever was Solomons Key for the orginal Nintendo. I loved solving the Riddle of each room. I finally beat the game but it was hard as hell.  I wish they would make it for Xbox360 or something.

Sonic All Star Racing Transformed.  The game never became popular, but it looked incredibly good and the gameplay was a lot more balanced.  I didn't think I liked racing games because of how much I disliked Mario Kart Wii, but I enjoyed Sonic All Star Racing a ton.

Man, black and white was such a sick game!!! I downloaded a thing to get extra creatures so I wouldn't be stuck with the 3 original creatures.

Yeah I agree.  CS:GO betting is so much fun.  Even with betting a handful of small value skins gives you a real attachment and reason to root for your betted team, which makes the game so much fun and really intense.

I haven't watched the pro scene yet. I will have to check it out.

MOO - Master Of Orion

This thread started me on a new project.

I was originally going to get a nes off ebay and a compact flash based universal game cartridge, but that would have cost a couple hundred in total and i'd be limited to nes. So I went the emulator route.

I've setup an old laptop with the hyperspin front end and configured it to run as a nes/snes/genesis emulator. Everything is controlled via gamepad and windows is mostly hidden. Heres a demo of some guys complete setup.

Every generation had something going that can be considered great. And there are many benchmark games like, say, Mario Brothers, Zelda, Tron, Zaxxon, Centipede... that's just off the top of my head and the list goes on and on.... so with that in mind, these are some of mine:

The best game I ever bought was Final Fantasy 7. Man I have so many memories of that game as a little kid. I must have played that game to completion 10 times at least, getting all the secrets and beating all the optional bosses. There might have been better games down the road but FF7 will always be there in my heart as a classic. Man that was a great game!!

Since there are so many great games out there it is hard choice. I am an avid gamer and I spend majority of my time on my hobby. But I think it is unfair to choose only one game.., And what about free to play games? There are really good now especially MOBAs like Dota2 or Smite. Great games.

Let me guess, you made maps where your friends get lost in them?

Nah, you couldn't get lost in them. That's just annoying. Looking realistic and aesthetically pleasing was important to me, but making them free-flowing and easy to find action was always first and foremost in the design. There were indeed passages you could explore that weren't always obvious, which not only had strategic advantages, but they often had Easter eggs to discover within. The only real bad thing was the HUGE file sizes, which kept many people from downloading them. That's the only thing people complained about. Otherwise, people told me they were fun as hell to play. For me, it was quite satisfying making the maps and a real blast playing them.

Which one?

UT99 and BF 1942. Wasted more of my life on those 2 games...

CoD 1 was pretty good as well.

Have you even played previous games of the Battlefield series? Because sadly Battlefield 4 with all his problems are not the greatest example, Battlefield 4 is bloated - Battlefield 3 was much, much better game.

I recently bought Guns of Icarus, a game where you fly an airship and try to down enemy airships. It has 3 modes deathmatch, and two types of point capture.  It requires extremely good communication and cooperation. Really fun and unique game, I'd recomend it.

While concept and environment of this game may be unique at first sight it is not a game to spend more time on. It is repetitive and boring after some time. All you do is firing guns at distant airships while repairing your own ship. It can be fun for a short while only imo.

Halo 2! I would pull all nighters effortlessly playing that game, time flew by. I miss those days, so many great memories.

D3 and D3 ROS. Unfortunately new season is coming soon and my hero is going to be a part of history.

Agricola - board game

Did you get the Master Chief Collection? I have been playing Halo 1 and Halo 2 a ton lately!! They just fixed the hit registration in Halo 1, it feels way better than xbc ever did!

Call of Duty series

for ps 1 : Crash bandicoot - all series ( CTR, CNK, Crash Bash, etc)
ps 2 : final fantasy 12 - the best 3D graphic on ps2
ANdroid game : CoC  8) - collect dark Elixir is soo difficult  :(

I remember young days when I bought Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, one of the best start of this genre games.

CS is the best game ever

I'd say finishing the campaign took about 10 or 12 hours, but it took me a few hours more when I played the game a few years ago because of exploration and side-quests.

You my friend should have a cookie. I completely agree with you. I bought CSGO and never looked back. ;D

I know it's pretty old by now but I still enjoy going back to the Baldurs Gate series every once in a while. Liked the plot a whole lot better than the riddled-with-plotholes Neverwinter Nights.

I think of the best is CSGO

FAR CRY 3 the best game released

It's funny that are these back to back post. I don't know if they are the best, but I spent most my time on these two and Tony Hawk 2.

Far Cry may be great game but UPLAY ruined it for many people. Uplay has ruined this game. It is required for FC3. Uplay is currently offline making the game inaccessible even for offline mode. DRM punishes legit purchasers of the game. I know torrents are up with cracked Uplayless installs. Yet buying the game gets me blocked from it. I would not recommend buying this or any new Ubisoft game due to this bullcrap.

Dark Age of Camelot.  And... Mark Jacobs is putting together sort of a sequel called "Camelot Unchained."

DAoC was my first MMO I played.  The first MMO I ever saw was EQ which my friend was playing.  DAoC came after EQ and another friend of mine got me into it.  I was totally hooked and then WoW came along and stole many players.  And, WoW sucked compared to DAoC.  People still play DAoC and there's a pretty good community of those who still play.  Look on youtube for 2014 DAOC and there are some decent videos of the large scale 3-realm PVP.  

I loved every aspect of DAoC (combat system, items, crafting, PVP, PVE, etc) so I'm really excited for Camelot Unchained.

I think Half Life is the Best Game

lol I feel you on that. People have name games I completely love but haven't played in ages.

To be honest, I still love the old DOS RPG games - Darksun Shattered Lands and Wake of the Ravager. I still think that, even though the graphics may appear outdated now, the games themselves are great.

Civilization V just with I have more free time for playing games :(

Hmmm... I remember thinking the original MS-DOS Caesar was awesome.  Have you played the other Caesars to compare?  I used to think Populous was awesome, then I downloaded it recently to play it again after all these years and it doesn't exactly hold up.  The UI as well as the graphics suck..but maybe that's a problem with a setting on the emulator or dos-box. 

Grand theft auto 5, its too real for any game came out in 2014, right? also a good game is counterstrike one of my best games to!

There is no doubt that GTA5 for PC is the best game ive ever owned.
The graphics are sick and the multiple games within the game are great.
This game is playable for a very, very long time.

Im actually surprised how quickly the Mods have happened after the release.

The NES brought arcades into peoples houses and i have heaps of fond memories because of that awesome little grey box that needed to be blown on to work.  ;D

The sims.

Castlevania Portrait of Ruin or Dawn of Sorrow for the Nintendo DS.  It's a tie.  Also, Symphony of the Night for PS1.  I could go on and on about those games forever.  I am old school, yes, but those games are pure beauty.  Chrono Trigger is one that I loved playing, as well.

in my gaming career i haven't bought many games, because you can simple download them from a torrent site, install it and you are good to go. But many years ago when i didn't had internet i bought Need for Speed 2. It was such a great game :)))

But, the best MMORPG game I ever bought was Guild Wars 2.  FPS was CS:GO.

For me, it's a tossup between Ridge Racer on my PS1 or Unreal Tournament on my pc in 1999. UT2k4 was okay too.

I remember when  bought Nfs 2 for the first time and I was so happy that day. I never got that feeling ever again after buying video games.

I do not play games now. I have not a free time for gaming. But Gta San Andreas is my best game who I played. It was before a few years (exactly 2005-2005). I have turned several times :D
