high-school.... never.

schools currently dont teach kids how to fill in taxes or teach kids much about true value of money as it is. as if governments would allow bitcoin to become part of curriculum for high schoolers.

although for colleges and universities, bitcoin is already part of some curriculum

That may be a feature, not a bug. Unless teaching them would trigger an even greater tax revolt.

This is quite true. When I graduated high school, nobody told me how to those things, how to get a passport, nothing. You had to figure it all out on yourself.

I agree, this is really not something that most high schoolers would be able to grasp. The concept of money creation is really a college level concept and only one that is generally taught to people getting a degree somewhat related to business, economics or finance

Just to keep things realistic at least we should aim for at least 70pct market adoption before moving towards another level.

My sister is 13 years old, just entered to the junior middle school. She told me her teacher gave a lesson about bitcoin. I was really surprised at the news. She learnt what is bitcoin and how to mine it.

Very much false, it isn't required but a lot of schools do teach it. I took classes in high school that taught us how the fed works, and how banking worked. Of course it was very layman's terms and didn't take any political spin on it.

I also learned about filing taxes and different forums, as well as balancing a checkbook, and how the stock market works. Granted I was in 9th,10th and 11th grades so it was again very high overview.

Inclusion of bitcoin in schoolbooks will take a very long time but I am sure teachers will be teaching them some lessons about it whenever they get a chance.

Yes, I can agree with this statement.
There are so many things in the world and schools really can't teach kids about everything.
So, they will choose the ''most important'' things in the world and bitcoin is still not in this category.

I think fractional reserve banking should definitely be taught.
A bit of money history and concepts like gold standard, quantitative easing, etc., never hurts.
If we enter an era of full-reserve banking or worldwide banking collapse that will probably enter curricular teaching.
So I would say in 10-15 years time, we should start seeing bitcoin being taught and figuring in schoolbooks.

You went to a decent high school then. Almost all high schools at least in my country don't teach you any life skills at all. You're pretty much left on your own for that part until university.

They don't want children to know how much they've been screwed over until they're old enough not to care.

They may have a project on different kinds of money and students may include bitcoin. Bitcoin may be brought up in economics lessons, but I do not think bitcoin will ever be taught in schools.

Yeah, in my country at least they wouldnt teach you anything like this in high school unless maybe if you had a great renegade teacher. Maybe if you study economics at college they're might be a module on it eventually. Would be pretty cool.

What subject was it? Can't even imagine the context of starting such a lesson now.. Maybe the teacher launched his own mining project and is involving his students)

I think it'd be good to have a course at some IT related university about Bitcoin ecosystem and cryptocurrency in general.

I don't want to introduce my kids to BTC this early. College is a perfect time to introduce them. So maybe college education might start financial and technology based course on BTC. 8)

i think public/state schools wont want kids knowing too much, but private/prep schools probably would teach it as they are more likely to be the next generation of elitists.

Bitcoin will probably hit public schools the instant the government can figure out a way to fit it into the narrative that they want kids to believe. Until then, I still think using Bitcoin for your kids' allowance will be a good way to teach them about money and budgeting.

It's not Bitcoin, but Piggycoin is designed to help teach kids about crypto and is starting to see a little action on the education front:
http://www.piggy-coin.com/amillionreasons-youcanlearnanything-khanacademy/

It's a start.I wouldn't hold my breath for bitcoin in textbooks. Rule of thumb is you have to wait 50 years to get something into a textbook, and I'm not certain that's changed all that much since the shift to internet-based education (though you'd think it would). More targeted educational initiatives like piggycoin are probably what's needed.

Are you sure? Name me the school and the subject they are teaching. I would accept if you are telling me it is part of university research but for 13 yo?

Most countries will avoid the subject of money creation at all costs last thing they want is the future generation of consumers waking up.

They don't even teach any of these in college, unless you go to something related like economy and whatnot. So no, I don't see Bitcoin being teached in the future unless an epic revolution happens where it is included in contemporary history class. Other than that, you'll maybe find it in science related subjects in college.

I don't know if bitcoin will be included anytime soon in the books, especially those for kids at middle or high school. But even for the books in university,I don't see it happening soon due to the fact that bitcoin isn't widely known and there's a strong misconception about it amongst people.

You need to send your kid to economics at college for this. It is not so complicated concept for lower education, but you know, you cant rule so easily very educated low class :)

Economics and finance majors are the most profitable college degrees and will generally provide students the most valuable skills. They generally do not teach students the value of money for individual people but rather the value of money for businesses and corporations and governments.

One thing that you will not be taught when you get a degree in economics is how to get a passport LOL

Some university has opened course about BTC.

They gave our college IT starter students 2 euro's worth in BTC at the start of their education. With a training and introduction on how to use it at local BTC accepting places in my hometown.
