Music was an interesting choice.

But I hope some great things come out of this!

Jered is doing a great thing here. The building looks pretty cool and those involved have a track record of getting things done. Hoping I get some time to visit soon.

Well, IMHO blueseed could be one expensive mistake. It isn't a cheap way to run a startup (minimun rent 1600 USD in a shared room, if I remember right). If you want to build a successful company, it doesn't hurt to look at the costs as well.

Let's hope this project comes to fruition. On the internet, Google is the ship, Facebook is the crew, we need a warp drive engine to power global Enterprises.

The interest in 'housing IT personnel' seems to be of some hot topic these days in certain circles.

I read some article recently about how to basically keep data center personnel mostly on-site (and comfortable) in association with some of the data mining and analysis operations which are going on, but I'll be damned if I can find the article now.  This article may or may not have been one which also described methods for monitoring IT personnel behavior changes.

I've oft theorized that one of the potential weak points in sweeping up vast amounts of data is that it is as or more likely to pull in data about those at the top of the control pyramid as it is those at the bottom.  So, people who happen to be able to tap into this data and make something of it...like copies...are a very weak link.  I bet that more than a few people have awaken in a cold sweat from a bad dream about Pvt. Manning.

If blueseed works out it will be a floating tax haven, near SF. It would be good for many companies, not only startups. Actually, I don't know why they focus so much in startups. Maybe it's a marketing thing... people in general (and leftists in particular) tend to hate startups less than big companies.

It makes some sense to me insofar as there is a social aspect here.  Startups seem to have some relatively pronounced differences in terms of work environment and in terms of the life-ways of the personnel found within them.  I'm generalizing, of course, but the tendency is certainly present in my experience.   I'm not sure about the cause/effect relationship between these to observations.  Have not contemplated it that much I guess.

You really think living on a boat 12miles of the coats of Silicon Valley is going to make a difference when it comes the monopoly on violence robbing you? Don't be naive.

It is indeed an interesting observation that "corporate" = bad (Google), startup = "good" (Twitter?) to the "Occupy" scene.  I think it more of an observation of SWPL prejudices but I can't think of a corresponding similar prejudice on the "right," do right wingers love banks, big oil, and Wall Street? The Lew Rockwell variety doesn't and they seem to be completely ambivalent towards Twitter-like startups.  It is almost certainly an economic indicator of who has whom's stock options.  I also think blueseed is an awesome idea, Snow Crash becomes reality.  I for one would love it if blueseed would accept investment in bitcoins as that would be huge.

I don't know if it will work out, that's why I said "if it works out".

The people in the seasteading institute have done lots of "homework", including law studies. I suppose that if it was completely impossible they would've stopped.
But I don't know... I really hope it works.... they will not be able to create a libertarian place, but they might be able to create something more free than any of the existent places on land, what would be great already. Let's see.

Lew Rockwell is one of the major libertarian names... he's definitely not "right wing"...

I would say he's definitely right wing libertarian.  The major difference between left and right libertarianism that I can tell is hating white people, Cindy Sheehan is a case in point.

This looks really cool. Makes me want to move my firm to San Francisco. Not going to happen though, Finland has to do at least for now. :)

If I was 20 years younger, I'd be pretty close to the womb...

It's a shame so much of the techie talent still gravitates towards Silicon Valley. California is a shithole and San Francisco is a giant heap of composting manure.

I just escaped that fascist police state and moved to New Hampshire for the Free State Project. I've been here nearly a year now and love it.

Can't argue with that.  I'm just here for the classic architecture. Jim Goad in his article Bay Aryan Resistance sums up the culture here perfectly.

That was entertaining.

Bitcoin for Blueseed, anyone?  A start-up currency for a floating city of start-ups, a perfect match IMO.

This might be a good way to expand the Bitcoin developers community if it catches on.

"The ultra-efficient efficiencies will go for $1,300 to $1,500 a month, he said." for 150 sq.f. of living space.  Outrageous rental prices you got there in SF
