Title: Where better to seek funding? Details inside
Post by: UnixConsultant on October 18, 2014, 04:51:47 AM
Hi there,

We are currently in the process of designing a product that offers remote technical support for end-users.

Our product differs from services like MyCleanPC.COM, etc, in the sense that our product is actually a bootable-USB or CDROM. It will not require a working OS to seek technical services. We are also planning to offer dial-in support for users who don't have a working internet connection. It's also our belief that this can be used for billing services, like dialing into a premium number instead of giving credit information.

Due to the nature of our product (it being a bootable environment), we are able to offer a wider range of services than most remote tech support companies. For example, we can offer password resets, boot loader fix/reinstalls, etc.

Not only will we be able to offer more in-depth fixes like the issues stated above, we are also planning to offer support for more than just Windows OS. It's our thought that not just Windows users need support. Linux and Mac OS X users may require support too. As of right now, that market is not served.

Anyway, I have a specification sheet for anyone else interested in the details of the service.

The reason for this post is: Where do you think would be a better place to seek funding for a project like this? Kickstarter, Btcjam, this forum?

Kickstarter doesn't appear to allow you to pay out profits from a completed project, it seems like its more of a place where people pay to get a project made and then as payment you receive the product. This doesn't really fit with our model because we plan to offer our product for free and then bill based on what the customer needed done.

So we're kinda just wondering what other people would do in this situation. Where would you attempt to seek funding for a project like this?

Thanks

What sets this apart from other software like Trinity Rescue Kit or that bootable set of tools (can't remember the name)?

If you are looking for a loan in this forum, you will need to provide collateral.  Details here:

May be the first problem for investment in project like this, is that people have sometimes problems with trojans, worms e.t.c., but there are a lot of AV companies out there. Problems with Windows or other OS can be, but they are rare, so the market is very small - in this situation- who will give the loan.

We're looking to appeal to clients who aren't proficient enough to do such things.

You gotta understand, its easier for some people to just pay $10 if they forget their password rather than reload their system, learn how to use such tools
