Title: Ati HD 7970 + 5850
Post by: aqrulesms on May 21, 2012, 09:18:37 PM
Hello,

I have ordered a 7970 and I am currently awaiting for it to arrive. I also have a 5850 that I currently have already.

My simple question is, will there be any compatibility issues?

Compatibility in terms of what?  Mining, gaming, both?

As in Mining.

Gaming is not a concern for me.  I was simply wondering if the 7970 and 5850 would mine together without hanging or crashing the system.

I have the same cards in a Win7 rig.  No issues.

They will mine together.  But the software required to use the 7970 will reduce the 5850's hash speed by about 10%.  For a small single system/rig miner that's not a big deal.  If you ever decide to go bigger, just keep in mind that it's best to keep the 7xxx series cards separate from the 5xxx & 6xxx cards.

Which Catalyst?
Which SDK?
Are you running more than one of each with multiple instances of cgminer?
Ex., optimal 7970 CC/SDK/cgminer; optimal 5850 CC/SDK/cgminer.

What are the hashes for the 7970 and 5850 that are running on the same motherboard?

Yes, as soon as I break even I will sell off my 5850 and add another 7970 on, just in time for the block halving.

I have three 5870s running with one 7970.  Have to use sdk 2.6 for 7970 support.

Under 2.1, phoenix gave me an average of 425 for the 5870s.  With 2.6, cgminer is working best for me, I get around 395 for each of them.

But I'm working on putting another rig together to put the 5870s back on their own 2.1 system.

What is the average power consumption of a 5850 + 7970 mining together?  How many Mhashes do they produce?

depends on how u clock them. My three GPUS are down clocked to 730/110@0.950v that gives me (with aggression 14) about 330 MH/s

You may need to update your ati drivers to support the 7970. I am mining with one 7970 and two 6950 in the same rig.

5870? 330mh/s it's waistet for, imho.
A 5850 delivers 330 easy.

I clock my bouth cards to 860mhz 1.012V, temp very ok with 65 and 68°C. VRM are arround 70°.
Roomtemperature is about ~25°C. Both cards deliver 350mh/s.
