I think we'll see 1 million members here before $10k btc.

372,524 members
215 registrations per day

So at current rate we would hit 1 million members in 7.99 years

---

Price went from $0 to over $1000 in less than 5 years…
Price going up to $10,000 seems like the more obtainable goal

When we break the old ATH new users will be flooding in.

I think we will see 10K first only because it doesn't take much to get there. To triple the amount of users isn't as easy

Bot pumps dont count.

More realistically:

Price went from $0 to $350 in less than 5 years.

The actual value of Bitcoin right now based on demand is basically $350.  With a little speculation on top, bringing it to $390's.

$1,000 was an anomaly powered by Bots and fake trades.

the money is real however not all of the registrations are real -- like when facebook reached a billion members - I knew people with over 50 facebook accounts.

Now given the sale of accounts and the rental of sigs, hahahaha bitcointalk is getting lots of new signups, but because of all of the market scams and wholesales losses of money, real people are leaving the community in droves.

Not every buy up to 1000 was a bot. So some people out there considered the price to be that high and bought because it was worth it. You don't get to decide what bitcoin is worth.

If it doesn't take much to see $10k bitcoins, then why haven't we seen them yet? The price couldn't stay stable at $1,000 for long and came crashing down in the following months. I think it would take considerably more than 'not much' to reach $10k.

You don't really believe that willey crap do you?
It was real demand.

Take a look here (http://bitcoincharts.com/charts/mtgoxUSD#czsg2010-06-30zeg2012-03-13ztgTzm1g10zm2g25zvzp). Looks familiar doesn't it?  Sharp spike and then it settles before it launches again.

It's natural movement of a volatile market.

I have a different twist on that.

BTC true value is about $500, however because of the media pumps it was inflated well above.  When the media attention turned neg due to all of the scams (all internal) the value retarded to where it is now.    If the btc community could make the CC industry a safer place to do business it will go back up instantly.  The scandal at Mintpal will put another dent into the program.

We're not even close to 1 million members, and as adoption grows by a large margin (about 3 times, looking at the numbers), the value of bitcoin will also increase by a large margin (not necessarily by 3 times).

So, by that logic i'd say $10 000 is reached much earlier than 1 million members.

Inflation in dollars would likely exceed population growth in a more volatile short term way, so we could extrapolate that 10k btc is more probable to occur first.     Price is not value though and this 10k may only buy a loaf of bread which would make us all poorer
Certainly is absolute terms, its easier to add a zero on a balance sheet then create more people then are dying.  Both are in positive growth but dollars do not naturally expire.   Of course btc could just get more popular suddenly or just this forum, CNN features the web address or something like that might do it

This makes sense. Anything you google about Bitcoin leads to this forum, and people will ask here before risking their money. Plus this forum has languages for everyone so its ideal.

1 million users on BTT before BTC reached 10k because as soon as BTC surpasses $1000 , more and more people will be again interested in BTC and by the time BTC rallies to 10k , we would have more than 1M users.

I see your point.

For me, it was a meager attempt to make some kind of - supply/demand - correlation.

Frankly, I dont care either way.

1M subs here -- would increase the information supply -- but also the regurgitation 10 fold.

Many new subscribers go straight to the alt-coin section, and there's certainly been no shortage of alts in 2014.

By the time Bitcointalk will reach its 1 Millionth user, bitcoin is worth around $500.

We will see $10k first! There will be another bubble, and even the needed media attention won't push us to 1 million user accounts before that! I guess 2015/2016 will be the time and place for $10k!

The answer to this question is very difficult to estimate for a number of reasons:

1. we don't know if the forum exists long enough to reach 1 million users
2. we don't know if other Bitcoin forums might become more popular and draw users away from bitcointalk
3. we don't know if a proposed rise to $ 10,000 is fueled by many or just a few wealthy investors
4. we don't know the size of the pool of people interested in Bitcoin technology that is likely to join a forum to discuss the topic

These reasons speak mostly against the forum reaching 1 million users before the price hits $ 10k.

But I still think the forum will see 1 million users first, because I'm quite sure that after surpassing the previous ATH and after the Winklevoss ETF getting permission, media reporting will skyrocket and the growth number of new users will increase exponentially. Most of these users will be seeking information before making an investment decision. So first serious interest and actual investment will have a time lag that leads in my view to a higher probability for the "1 million users first" outcome.

ya.ya.yo!

There are 372,524 PROFILES-  not users.
I doubt if there are even 50,000 users.

Edit:  just some facts :  over 200,000 "users" have ZERO posts   , another 100,000 have between 1 and 9

I would say there are much less then 50K real users and much less active users.

Obviously 1 million users!

The growth of the user base should be exponential (especially because of so many altcoins).
The growth of bitcoin is... um... yeah, let's say "slower" :)

I believe Bitcointalk will reach 1 Million users first. As soon as someone learns of bitcoin, this is the first place they come to get there all questions answered. Also, this is the place where almost every service which deals in bitcoin come to get more attention and traffic.

1. I doubt it will get changed. Is here for some time already.

2. It will not.

3. Next ATH will be fueled by existing users. But that ATH will drive more people on this forum.

4. It is way over 1 million.

I voted for 1 million bitcointalk users, because in my mind a more widespread adoption is going to come first and bitcointalk (imo) could play a part in that.
