If I take copy the address that the coins were sent to, then trash the faulty wallet, and reinstall a new download, can I manually input the old address to lodge the coins?

No, never trash a wallet that might contain coins. If you do, the coins are gone forever. Inputting the old address into a new wallet will not save them. |
