Title: After 45+ years, lawyers are suing for infringement
Post by: Singlebyte on October 22, 2014, 07:34:30 PM
This week I have read two articles about lawyers suing for copyright infringement or stolen materials even though the alleged activities happen a 1/2 century or more ago.  You would think there would be a statue of limitations on these type of lawsuits.

The first one is in regards to Led Zepplin's Stairway To Heaven.  The group "Spirit" claims the track was stolen from them.  If you listen to both songs, they are somewhat similar.

The next lawsuit has Oklahoma State suing NMSU over mascot likeness after 50 years of usage.  The two mascots are obviously the same.  Just wonder why it takes this long for them to come out of the wood works?

I guess lawyers are always looking for a way to make a buck....even decades later....

Another example of lawyers going wild.....

Alabama man gets $1,000 in police settlement, his lawyers get $459,000

I am honestly beginning to believe that copyright law needs to die, I am not against stopping plagiarism by any means, that's wrong, but the copyright laws that are allowing the lawyers to get away with this are just ridiculous and they're just going to keep on suing for as long as it will get them money, there's an actual business cartel forming now of lawyer groups etc. sending chain letters to people to harass them into giving them money because it's just so easy for them to do it.

I'm speaking here as someone who's a learning artist as well so it's not like I'm just some filesharer pulling this out of my arse, but I'll freely admit I do fileshare just to mess with these assholes.
