CAFÉ AUNJA: WHERE IT ALL BEGAN
It’s around a cup of coffee that My Dear Montréal was born.
A warm ambiance, a vintage decor, a welcoming staff and a lulling melody; we almost feel like home.
Café Aunja offers a healthy menu that changes at the whim of the seasons, refreshing drinks and a large variety of oriental tea.
Grade: 9/10

“Everything about his place makes you want to loose track of time and wonder about the meaning of life (until you find it). The front space welcomes a new exhibition or performance every other day, while the back end, filled with a large couch, is a cosy haven for the intellect at work. Should you need a little dose of caffeine to keep up with conversation, Cafe Aunja has you covered with over 60 varieties of dried flowers and teas to mix into your very own hot drink. Every teapot is served with a few Persian chickpea cookies (Nan-e Nokhodchi) that literally melt in your mouth. So really, you have no reason to leave.”

The owners are pretty open to new ideas and they were really excited about the idea when I told them.
All the work has been done by me, hopefully I would get some feedback to make the backend system more efficient :)

Yes, the first cafe in montreal that accepts bitcoin and also in Quebec province. I did a quick research and couldn't find one in the whole eastern Canada.

Nice! I'm planing to open a caffe in Belgrade, we have a restaurant where you can pay with BTC but not a caffe like this. I think it would be brilliant, because there is actually a lot of people from Belgrade that are using BTC. What do you guys think? Any experience with caffe where you can pay with btc?

It is still too far from having enough merchants.

Price is falling because still no certainty that governments will accept it or ban it.

There are some small issues that need to be fix. the main one would be a faster way to verify if the transaction is confirmed or if it's broadcasted to the network, it's not realistic to wait 10,15 minutes (yet only for 1 confirmation) to pay for a cup of coffee.
There's this trade off of time vs. security, you either should trust the broadcast (unconfirmed transaction) or wait for the first confirmation.

I'm researching different methods of fast verification and this is a great experience to see how each one works out in real life situations.

Another issue is privacy that you should not reuse one address for all your transactions. The other challenge would be the security of private keys that I assume I've overcome this with some basic cryptography.

and also it's always possible to get a 3rd party like bitpay to go through all this trouble, but I prefer to have everything on my own hands, even if there would be any blames (hopefully not) :)

Victoo is right on this, and also most of the ups and downs in bitcoin prices are basicly the changes in supply and demand (bid/ask) in the market. we have a long way to stabilize this with the number of merchants that accept bitcoin.

Neat. Looks like a cozy place!

What worries me a bit are reports by a few people (recently on reddit) that some of the places that once did accept Bitcoin are no longer doing it due to lack of demand and complexity. It seems that some businesses just took the opportunity for some cheap advertising...

I hope this place will continue to accept BTC even if it will take time for real demand to establish. We need more of the smaller and medium businesses to accept bitcoin, because those are the real backbone of the economy.

ya.ya.yo!

regarding Cafe Aunja, as I'm maintaining their bitcoin payment I will do my best to have it available as long as possible, I made the interface really simple and made HowTo catalogues for new employees so it wouldn't be too complex for those who does not know what bitcoins are or how to accept them and suchs.
Hope it works out :)

I'm also working on the the payment system to have it as a framework for easy implementation on other places, if any.

btw there is a 10% discount if you pay with bitcoin :)

They're receiving BTC but with an option to cash out whenever they like to, so basically btc.

That's nice news. Only hope my local Café offers the same payment method.

it's like asking your local cafe how much cash they earned this week :)

I just can't get enough of the line that says, "Bitcoin Is Accepted Here". It's like my four favorite words. And bravo to the cafe. 8)
