Title: MOIP : Money Over Internet Protocol
Post by: HostFat on May 24, 2012, 11:41:13 AM
I like this tweet from rogerkver  (https://twitter.com/rogerkver/status/205622508089647104)

"Bitcoin is money over IP. (Internet Protocol)"

We should create a new term, MOIP: Money Over Internet Protocol

Let's spam it everywhere ( wikipedia ? ) so that it become a common word! ;)

Bitcoin is just the first implementation of the MOIP idea ;D

PS: Do you think that Currency Over Internet Protocol is better or worse?

I heard it stated this way from Tony at Bit-pay in this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7BfjsCAZyQ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7BfjsCAZyQ)

I thought it was an important enough concept that I should tweet it.
I like the term MOIP

I suspect Bit-Pay will see some VC funding soon.

We can also rename the "Alternate cryptocurrencies" section in "Other MOIPs" :D

I really hope to read someday this question:
"Does your software/game support a MOIP?"

Is there someone that can write a good and general definition of MOIP?

That should be renamed MCOIP, MOIP is more suited to Money over IP.

Howabout Payment Over Overlay Protocol?  :D
[edit] Okay, that's a little lame. I guess there is merit to this idea. The internet needs a Universal payment system.

Someone draft an RFC and get it published - i'm deadly serious.

Get the IETF onto bitcoin and it'll never die.

If the someone has to be me i'll do it, i've worked with the IETF before.

Sounds great. For those that are new to the process, here are the guidelines that the IETF publishes for independent submissions: http://www.ietf.org/ietf-ftp/1id-guidelines.txt

"Money over IP" sounds super catchy! Much better than anything with word "crypto" inside.

+1 for MOIP

Commodity Over IP as well (for those of us skirting the idea that Bitcoin is a "currency")

How about just referring to "Internet Money" so that everyone can understand what you're talking about? Jargon doesn't help to spread the news.

I came up with this idea in November after the Prague conference.  The idea is that major banks and corporations would implement something that's an international standard, whereas they won't implement something seen as being only in hackerspace.

Its alot of work, but I'm willing to contribute what I can.

Hope not. Hope Bit-Pay will be able to grow on its own.

We are going alone as far as we can, but at some point we will hit a wall.  You cannot possibly compete with a company like Square who has $100,000,000 of investors money to spend, and those investors are out there every day talking up the company and promoting it.

Have you considered utilizing GLBSE to obtain funds?

It is such a great name that ...

there is already a company using it.

In fact, that's what a bitcoin exchange in Brazil uses for customers buying bitcoins:

When/if the time comes, I'm ready to fund. growvc.com is a good site to look for investors.

I think venmo is the biggest threat to bitcoin. If money over IP becomes prevalent without the need for bitcoin/cryptocurrencies, than the only benefit they really offer is for ideologist/criminals/economic reasons. But a lot of the added utility that we emphasize to the layman will disappear. And I ask myself, why don't we have that kiiler app yet?

You're about 20 years too late. It was called MicroPayment Transfer Protocol (mptp://) (http://www.w3.org/TR/WD-mptp)

Venmo is displacing bitcoin right now. idk what you are referring to but i am referring to the decreased need of the common joe to use bitcoin now that venmo is out there

then you don't understand Bitcoin.

Venmo still deals in USD which continue to be inflated by central bankers.  not to mention all the identity issues.

money is meant to be a store of value, not a toy for vested interests.

Cypherdoc i have respect for you, but i do understand bitcoin. Again as a financial asset it may rise in value. but a lot of bit coiners pose the "GDP argument" (value of all things sold in bitcoin/# of bitcoins) as promise that the value must rise if we assume that the G&S sold in BTC will grow faster than the inflation rate. If people use venmo and paypal and resort to bitcoin only as a safe heaven, than that argument is invalid

So does this mean that we can all get MOIP tattoos on our necks like how bloods get MOB (money over bitches) tattooed on their necks?
