For self-mod thread, the thread creator has the power to delete any replies in the thread freely. Other users won't have any problem reading the thread, but there will be a message "This is a self-moderated topic. If you do not want to be moderated by the person who started this topic, create a new topic." on top. Also, users may have a negative impression on your business as they may think you are going to censor negative comments. It has nothing to do with the self-moderated message.
