I own 3 cats and they know how to piss and poop, but I don't expect them to do much other than that. Still they are great low maintenance furry companions.

Cats can never be your friend. Of course they can be your friends! However, they probably wouldn't be good baby sitters. No animals would (with the possible exception of other primates, but I'd never dare try).
