Title: Ask for help: How to get start in bitcoin world
Post by: CoTi on October 29, 2014, 08:58:04 AM
Hello experts,

I am new here to the world of BTC, really interested in, but don't know how to start.

I had read some threads about what is satoshi is, its future, etc. And can understood part of them.

I know there are two ways to have BTC, one is buy/sell, another is mining. cause I don't have specialized knowledge on technique. So I only can choose buy/sell.

What I need are steps and what should I know before start.

Sincerely need your help.

Thanks.

Your choice is right, it almost can't mining a bitcoin now for person.

To buy bitcoins, note that you do not buy bitcoins on any Changers like coinbase, okpay, payza and etc, where will make you lose a lot of costs needlessly.

You should choose a bitcoin exchange, where to find exchange? look this https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=695082.0

I suggest you can try LakeBTC, just meet its price is in the low according to Coindesk BPI (https://i.imgur.com/UcwXPxs.png) (the bule line ): http://www.coindesk.com/price/

There is only 3 steps to buy cheapest bitcons, you can see https://www.lakebtc.com/s/buy-bitcoins

but you have to know how to use Bitcoin wallet before your bitcoin tour, see this https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet

p.s more simple questions about bitcoin you can see https://bitcoin.org/en/faq

You can buy bitcoin through exchangers, as suggested above, or earn them through some paid work, like joining signature campaigns, which you can find under market services section on this forum.
Also, my advice to you is to buy bitcoin now, because their price isa low at the moment, and when their price raise again, sell them and collect profit :)

If you have an expertise or skill, try to figure out how to put that skill to use to make bitcoins.

You have two option.
1. Direct to buy bitcoins or selling something.
2. Buy bitcoin miners

You should choose which will be better investment.

This is the perfect place to start with bitcoin. Everything you want to know or learn, is here. Just ask, there's a lot of users who will help you.

First of all, btc mining is dead (it can pay off if you invest in ASIC miners) but there is always some work to be done for it and you can find what people are looking for or if you want to offer your services, here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=52.0 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=52.0).

When your rank is high enough, you can join signature campaigns that will pay you weekly or monthly for posting here.

Also, you can use some faucet to see how it feels to transfer and use bitcoin, also don't use faucets for profit, that cant be done.

One site I'd like to suggest you is BITFEVER.ORG (http://BITFEVER.ORG), it's perfect for the newbiew.
I hope I've helped you with this info and put you on the right direction, if you want to ask something or didn't understand, feel free to ask or open a topic. Good luck.

I use btc-e, but it shows "Balance: 0 BTC" means I need to place funds into the account. But how? how to place funds into account.

4. Learn bitcoin is a non reversible payment
5. Learn to use reputable escrow with +1 or higher
6. Know in the bitcoin world of business anything can be gone within in instant.

^ I think you can just save your private keys somewhere (one for each address on the wallet) and then import them later if you need.
But it's easier to backup just the wallet file, which contains them all.

If you lose your private keys, you lose your bitcoins. Backing up your wallet is not necessary, but why risk it? People lose their wallets all the time.

Gambling is literally, just gambling; you bet a certain amount of bitcoins, and if you win, you earn your bet back + extra. The house always has the edge. In order to gamble, however, you to need ascertain some initial funds. You can't gamble if you don't have anything to gamble with!

Yes if you want to keep your bitcoins online without having a wallet on your computer, but I don't know if that is very safe.
If the site goes down or is hacked, you could lose control of the bitcoins. : /

Online shared wallet are not 100% secure. The operator have full control of your Bitcoins, try using wallets like blockchain.info and enable 2FA. Since they do not have any control over your Bitcoins, you will not lose them if they get hacked or run away. It is pretty much secure from hacker too compared to normal desktop wallets as they need 2FA code to access your account.

To be honest, nothing would be 100% secure. Whether you keep a paper wallet in a physical location or an online, or a desktop wallet, there will always be insecurities; it's a wallet, like any other wallet. But I agree with the blockchain.info; it is one of the more reliable ones.

The offline paper wallet pretty much eliminates much of the risk, the risk of hacker getting your private key. Risk of bad RNGs can be eliminated by using mouse movement to generate a private key. Encrypting with BIP38 eliminates the risk of a person finding your paper wallet and spending it as they need the password.

so to protect my wallet well is the most important thing. Can I copy the wallet to another place then delete it after I update it?

maybe you will ask why don't use Chinese exchangers or why not ask in a China forum. cause I suppose the foreign one is more reliable.

You can but there is a risk. A hacker may seize the chance to get your wallet before you delete it if you do it offline, I suppose there is no problem.

AFAIK, there is a Bitcoin ATM which you can use to purchase Bitcoins. If there isn't, localbitcoins.com would be the best choice.

According to http://www.coindesk.com/bitcoin-atm-map/, there are only 4 places you can find a bitcoin ATM in China, which is Beijing, Shanghai, Macau and Hong Kong.
If you don't live near those 4 cities, the best option IMO is to use localbitcoins.

Is blockchain.info the best online wallet for hot wallets?
It is one of the best as its open sourced with features with two factor authentication, no one would able to access your coins. Compared to coinbase, which have full access of your coins, blockchain.info do not have unencrypted private keys which means a hacker who can hack into blockchain.info online wallet would possibly never get your BTC. The best online desktop would still be Bitcoin Core, you would be getting the fullest control over your private key as no one else have access to your private key regardless of whether it's encrypted. Blockchain.info still have control over your encrypted private key but it would be hard to brute force. For the best online wallet with best security, blockchain.info would be recommended.

Here is the simplest. Take your time, and browse through these forums, and spend an entire week reading as much as you can. Here and the wiki.

I learned everything here. And everything you need to learn is still here. Probably buried deep in some old threads.

Well said.
Apart from blockchain.info, there are also some mutisig online wallets now such as BitGo (https://www.bitgo.com/) and GreenAddress (https://greenaddress.it/), which allows you to control your bitcoin. :)
