Title: Does post count have to be equal or higher than activity
Post by: pissedoff on November 02, 2014, 01:22:10 AM
I see that at the time of writing this my post count is 50 and activity 50, so does that mean every 2 weeks you have to make at least 14 posts to actually get the 14 activity? I was under the impression as long as you posted at least once in the time zone you would gain all 14 points.

You are able to gain up to 14 activity points every two weeks. If you only make one post when you create your account and one post 15 days later then you will have two activity and two posts.

If the next day you were to make an additional 30 posts then you would have a total of 32 posts and 28 activity.

To answer your question, yes your post count will need to be equal to or greater then your activity, however you do not need to make all 14 posts in the "activity period" to earn the activity

I thought as much cheers!

The activity updates every 30-60 minutes too.

He's correct. The exact formula, in code form is
time = # of two week periods where user posts at least one

activity = min(time * 14, posts);

It's a fair system.

It was every 30 minutes, but it is now every 60 minutes, as shown in the sticky https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=178608.0.

The obvious answer would be yes, but I guess there may be some exceptional circumstances.  ;D

I have a question about deleted posts (either by moderator or user). Do they count for updating activity? My first impression was that they don't, but then I came across this user.

Name:    247bitcoinnewscom
Posts:    4
Activity:    22

Any ideas how this happened?

Hmm that is interesting. I have no clue about it.

Also, the post count of that user is 4, but if you click "Show the last posts of this person.", it will show no post.

If you look at his general statistics though, there's more activity than just 4 posts.

I think the posts were deleted after activity updated. But 'show last posts' shows nothing, which is very weird. An admin or mod may want to see this for correct answer. ::)

Yeah , it is very strange ... maybe his activity will "drop" when he will back online (his last  active day is the 7 of august).

The user will have probably been nuked which deletes all their posts and usually activity after the activity update every hour but hasn't for some reason. Maybe just a glitch.

Activity is suppose to update every hour (and your rank some time after your activity updates). AFAIK you not being online should not affect your post count/activity level.

I might speculate that some of his posts are on some hidden forum section (mod section, or donator section - even though he is neither of these)

I have seen other users that were nuked and they always had their post and activity count get reset to 0

yes you're right , "it is supposed" to update every hour but in this case it is not happened.

I found four of his posts which weren't showing in his post history. Search 247bitcoinnewscom site:bitcointalk.org in Google or any other. :)

What about posts that are moved to moderator/admin read only sections?

Such as trashcan or other moderator/admin exclusive forums. Thus the post still exists but can't be read by anyone who doesn't have the pre requisite authority.

They're not.

You lose them, but as above they're not there either when I view his posts, so he was probably nuked and it just didn't update for whatever reason.

Yup, I guess it is a plain old glitch.

My activity has been stuck at 140 for quote some time now.
In between the activity just touching 140, I have probably made 50 new posts.

Not sure what is going on...

Activity updates every 14 days(2 weeks). So your activity is likely to get updated on next Tuesday, 11th November. :)

P.S. See https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=582736 for timings! :)

Who can read a board has no effect on post count/activity, post count is either enabled or not. It's only disabled for the trashcan boards.
