Title: [ANN] Bitding.com - btc penny auction - free btc to select bitcointalk accounts
Post by: g-uid on November 02, 2014, 08:52:18 PM
bitding.com is a penny auction site for bitcoin.

The way a penny auction site works is simple: auction starts at 0.0001 ฿ 0.00001  BTC and increments 0.0001 ฿ 0.00001  BTC per bid. Each bid costs 0.0015 BTC and every time a bid is made the auction clock is extended by 30 seconds.

There's been a few btc penny auction sites over the last year, so we've tried to differentiate ourselves:

1. We only run a single auction at a time
2. We auction items that we think most people would want (so no kitchenware, towel sets or Shell gift cards!). Auctions over the next week include Microsoft Xbox One's, Kindle Fire HDX's and Ipad's.
3. We don't expect the initial set of users from this forum to trust us with their coin so we are giving away FREE BTC to trusted bitcointalk users who sign up with us. Simply contact us on this forum and let us know your bitding username. Provided you are a trusted user we will then load your Bitding account with free BTC so you can bid on an auction. All we ask is that you let folks in this thread/forum know if you win anything.

If you find and report any significant bugs we'll reward you with BTC straight to your Bitding account.

If you have any feature suggestions or items that you want to see auctioned then let us know in this thread.

Please note that we only ship to Europe, USA and Canada.

* 11/18/2014 auctions now start at ฿ 0.00001 and increase per bid set to ฿ 0.00001

Another Xbox one sold for 0.3723BTC. Congrats to ggpozos.

Next Xbox One auction has already started.. If you're bidding, you're going to be a lot more successful with the sniper bid feature.

Latest auction had an Xbox One sold to judykanova for 0.38920.

Next up is a PS4 which has already started.

Have yet to see a bitcointalk user win an auction.

Be sure to contact us if you want an account preloaded with BTC.

Yes I hope to win, but my concern is as follows how do we know you will actually send a xbox or in this case playstation and not just take the deposited funds and run?

Also I find it very weird that the same users that won are bidding on the same item.

Perfectly valid concerns. I don't expect you to trust me and so I have put my money where my mouth is. So for your account you're using my money that I seeded your account with. If you win, it will be with my money (I don't expect bitcointalk users to trust us at all, ergo the reason I am giving trusted users free BTC). Note that you can't bid for an item if you don't have the funds to pay for it, so you shouldn't have to deposit any more of your own funds should you win.

It makes sense to keep seeing the same users, we only have a very small user base (around 50 now) and they are mostly using the sniper feature (for automatic bidding). At the end of the day a brand new Xbox One for less than 50% of the price is still a damn good deal, regardless of whether or not you already own one, I guess that's why previous winners feel the need to bid for the same item again.

Having a bit of a problem receiving payments through Bitpay. Please be patient as we sort this out.

Thanks!

Thats not quite what I am saying. I am saying after we win, we still have to pay for the item. By this I mean, I bid on the xbox one and win it at .3 BTC. I still have to send you 0.3 BTC and trust you will actully ship it to me.

I get it, but that is incorrect. You won't be allowed to bid if you don't have enough in your account to pay for the item.

yes, which means to win almost any item I still must deposit. The playstation 4 is at .3 btc. Which means I cant win it and I havent seen any item close under .25, therefore I have to depost in order to win and trust you which I dont.

So I wont be depositing.

That would be an interesting take on this type of auction. Unfortunately consumer rights being what they are (and rightly so), we're only open to auctioning brand new goods direct from the retailers.

Glad you like the idea.

Still I find it very weird that people who won an xbox one already are still bidding on another xbox one.

It's really not that weird. The people is one person. If you're watching the auctions as closely as I am you'll see that the past winner of the Xbox one you're referencing is only bidding up to a certain amount and then backs off.

Makes sense, right, an Xbox One for 0.05 BTC or thereabouts is a pretty good deal.

Ah wait, I stand corrected. You are correct, it is indeed more than one person. I see two previous winners auto bidding for an Xbox One.

yes, I mean one person bidding on another xbox one dispite winning one already is weird, 2 people doing it doesnt make much sense.

It makes perfect sense when they are bidding for an item that is 90% less its retail price. One could sell the item (even if you already own it) for a healthy profit.

Again, we have a very small user base so it's expected to see the same users over and over.

Well I am surprised and glad to say I won an item. I have filled in my shipping details and I am eager to see if it gets delivered.

Not sure what type of shipping, but would be great to get a tracking number. Also where exactly does the item ship from?

Sorry but you need more trust on this forum first.

We're only giving trusted and senior bitcointalk forum members free BTC because they inherently carry more trust than newbie accounts.

Nice service, would like to try.
Suggestion: Try advertising on some crypto news sites like coindesk, cryptocoinnews, etc most of them do sponsored service, putting on forum is a think of old.

Question: If i can understand correctly from just seeing, site takes a fee of 0.0015 per bid and adds 0.0001 to the value. So, i pay 0.0015 for my each bid, even if i win or lose?
Also, if i win i pay the value of the item as well.?
And how does the sniper bid work?

Still researching the site....

Good questions, we're setting up an FAQ page to address these as well as other questions. Also trying to make the UI more intuitive so they don't have to be asked to start with.

Suggestion: Try advertising on some crypto news sites like coindesk, cryptocoinnews, etc most of them do sponsored service, putting on forum is a think of old.

Much appreciated, thanks.

Yes, think of it as a fee to make a bid. You won't be allowed to make a bid if you don't have the funds to pay for the item if you win. If you do win then the funds for the total price will automatically be deducted from your account. We're thinking of changing this to where you pay when you are ready, much like an eBay auction. Just a matter of gathering more feedback.

And how does the sniper bid work?

You setup a sniper bid when you want the system to automatically bid on your behalf. Basically you tell it at what price you want to start bidding and how many bids you want it to make on your behalf. This is totally the way to do it, it's very unlikely to win the auction with manual bids, precisely because everyone else is using snipers.

Auctions from this week:

Xbox One  0.20920   -- Won (and verified) by starsoccer of bitcointalk
Xbox One  0.53060
PS4           0.28410
Xbox One  0.54630
Xbox One  0.19210

Ordinarily we'd post the username associated with every auction, but we're moving away from this. Pretty soon usernames displayed will be replaced with the first three characters of a username followed by *'s (like eBay). The reason for this is because of having identified collusion and other forms of abuse from rogue users who are able to identify others through their usernames, this is strictly forbidden in our terms and conditions. Happy to make an exception for bitcoin users for now (ergo starsoccer mentioned above), since they will find each other regardless of whether or not we post the usernames.

Any suggestions or specific products you want to see? Let us know.

There is no "hidden minimum price", quite insulting that you said this. More so since you were one of the successful winners in the past.

This is simple to explain:

- First bid is a standard bid, note the "Std" next to koko's name, this means that he manually pushed in the bid
- Second bid is a Sniper bid, note the "SNP" next to his name, this means the system put it in on the user's behalf when the user configured a sniper bid

Koko basically put in his first bid shortly after the auction started. The other users set their sniper bids up which only kick in just before an auction is about to end.

If the offer for free BTC remains, I'm registered under the name 'bitspill'.

Thanks.

Account topped up. Good luck!

I have noticed a problem with the site as show in the picture below, http://imgur.com/nBq8Hkq

The first person bid at 6am but the second bid at 7am. shouldnt the first person have won at 6am or is there a hidden minimum price?

There is no "hidden minimum price", quite insulting that you said this. More so since you were one of the successful winners in the past.

This is simple to explain:

- First bid is a standard bid, note the "Std" next to koko's name, this means that he manually pushed in the bid
- Second bid is a Sniper bid, note the "SNP" next to his name, this means the system put it in on the user's behalf when the user configured a sniper bid

Koko basically put in his first bid shortly after the auction started. The other users set their sniper bids up which only kick in just before an auction is about to end.

I apologize, I clearly misunderstood how auctions started. I thought auctions started at the smallest price with 0 time set. Thanks for clarifying.

It should perhaps be mentioned somewhere that the timer begins at, say, 3 hours and is then extended for 30 seconds with each bid.

@g-uid Thanks for the account top up, hopefully I'm as lucky as starsoccer9.

Edit: Do we have any PS4's coming up again? At this time I seem to have missed the PS4 by two auctions
Edit: PS4 auction just started

I have a question about how the sniper bids work. I set up some earlier and it seems after every second bid that was not mine I would automatically bid 1 second after someone else bids and the time would increase to 1:20 instead of :50 like usual. For example jelli3108 bids at 9:55:32 the 30 seconds later wancman bids at 9:56:03 then I bid 1 second later at 9:56:04. I have seen this happen with other users but I have also watched long periods with bids only every 30 seconds. What causes this, is this how it should work?

It's a bug exhibited only when a threshold of sniper bidders is exceeded. Trying to fix it now, hence the reason no auction is running at the moment.

We're being extorted. DDOS has taken us down.

Please be patient as we try to get over this hump.

Well, that sucks. I want to win a PS4 ;)

I don't quite get the benefit of launching a DDOS attack, it really accomplishes nothing.

I don't quite get the benefit of launching a DDOS attack, it really accomplishes nothing.

By taking us down they are denying us a source of revenue (service is inaccessible to our users, auctions end earlier than anticipated, folks can't bid etc). The longer they DDOS us the more money we lose. If we pay them then they claim that they will leave us alone, ergo extortion.

It's a criminal act, nothing more to it.

I would definitely not pay them, who's to say they will stop or just say they want more?

Also, is this a decently sized attack that could be mediated with a cloudflare account?

Unfortunately it's of an order that the guys we have spoken to quoted around $10,000 (a month!) to be able to safely bury what they're sending our way.

Bitspill you are one of a kind. I don't think there are many people who have the integrity to do what you did.

Thanks a plenty for your honesty.

Nice win!

... Maybe I shouldn't have told g-uid how I was able to cheat ... ;)

However while I could have gotten a free PS4 we need to look out for each other as a community and not burn each other out just to make a quick buck, otherwise people will always be fearful of bitcoin and further it's image as being for scams and illegal operations.

We're still trying to fix a serious flaw in the system. Should be up soon. Will post in the forum when it is.

Sorry for breaking it ;)

(unless you found a new bug, in which case good luck)
