You should assume that Microsoft has bitlocker backdoored in coordination with the NSA.

I'm surprised this was only posted on cryptome recently. This has been known about for quite sometime.

Windows also does something similar with EFS.

Even if you do join a domain it sends the key to the domain admin, Microsoft have made it very difficult to use their encryption tools without a third party having your private key.

Best to use the encryption tools provided by your wallet software and not solely rely on BitLocker or EFS.

I can't understand why people seriously involved with bitcoin does not use linux. It's not that hard to set up and install.

Consider both of these as secure solutions against most third parties but any NSA/FBI targeted attack is difficult to protect against in windows or osx as these are heavily rooted and compromised systems.

in some country internet users is not familiar with linux.
and yes bitlocker is closed source , must careful with that.

In all countries most users are unfamiliar with Linux, the point is to be honest about security and treat OSX,IOS,Windows,and all smartphones as compromised and insecure environments by design.

If you are serious about security you need to learn to use distros like https://tails.boum.org

I would use truecrypt better than bitlocker
its 7.1 release has not been compromised

Yes, and also these facts:

- Windows is closed source
- Windows runs windows update automatically (do you trust Microsoft and their partners?) and thus makes an easy entrance to your OS.
- Most malware is targeted at Windows users, and you can become infected just from visiting a malware spreading website, or downloading  software that contains malware you don't know about.
- Linux is not that prone to viruses.
- Linux has stronger security.
- You don't need to pay money from linux.
- Linux has more frequent updates.
- Linux is very customizable. If something annoys you, you can write a script or change a key-binding or whatever to get the desired behaviour.

There are several user friendly linux versions, and it's not hard to get started. Imo, the benefits here are much larger than the drawbacks.

And while we're listing facts:
It's not that difficult to install linux in a MS windows virtual machine now, so you get to learn about linux (and all the apps available there) without having to boot a separate system or buy another computer.

BitLocker = 100% NSA backdoored .. bet on it!!

Bitlocker has some nice features such as the ability to store the private keys in hardware using TPM compatible devices. Regardless of what tiinfoil hatters might think about TPM, this is a very useful feature for servers that need to auto-boot without human intervention, yet at the same time keep data at rest encrypted. I wished TrueCrypt had this feature.

I promise you folks, that bitlocker will not steal $80,000 from you like the Scam Site Lord above me, Michael Moriarty might.

I also use windows 8 but I don't store my private keys in onedrive. You should play it smart.

Don't do anything illegal or even controversial on windows or osx OS's. They are compromised.

Don't store more coins in your desktop wallet than you need for day to day activity and this isn't an issue. It is more than just private key security, desktop wallets are prone to software crashes, physical damage and so on. This should apply to hardware wallets as well.
