Post by: BitCoinNutJob on November 06, 2014, 02:06:47 PM
Would like to see change tip for this forum, i guess that means making it for all SMFs + there are other forum softwares also so i can see why it hasnt happened yet. Youtube, reddit, facebook etc priority.

Anyway, changetip is cool.

Agree, And it would be much more convenient than having a btc address in sig/sending to a btc addres. Something like reddit changetip would be awesome.
btw- meta would be the right section if you aren't hiring coders to do so (and you aren't the administrator so...) I suggest moving it there.

Doesn't sound too hard to create a user-made bot, but let's see what this will be used for.

1- Unlike reddit, here dedicated Bitcoiners come. On reddit, it helps promote and advertise Bitcoin, and allows established Bitcoiners to give back. Here ? I can't really see a use.
Most people here have a decent amount of Bitcoin, so sending people an mBTC or two won't be that useful.

2- It will create more spam. On reddit, where comments are well sorted, it's okay.
But what happens when a hundred people send 100 satoshis to a new post by some gambling company for example ?

Yeah thats a good point actually, and you would end up with 2 extra posts just to tip someone.  People using tips to bump etc. hmmm

A PM tip bot "might" make sense, but I'm not sure why would you do that when just tipping via blockchain.info or something would be as fast.

This website: https://bitcointa.lk/pages/features/

Shows what an alternate forums looks like. They might be able to implement it into the forums itself if they wanted to.

Also, you could make an extension/bookmarklet if you were determined to, but it wouldn't be displayed (as again, it would be spammy)

I think that it would be a nice addition to the forum, perhaps in the new software (whenever that is coming).

Some people might argue that tipping for exposure to Bitcoin has little to no use here, but people who receive tips might well use that as a tip fund on other platforms.

I wouldn't mind it here, I use changetip on reddit, twitter and youtube.

its fun to tip small amounts to random people sometimes and to get new people interested in BTC.

This is an amazing suggestion. I am completely with you. Let's hope that this will be implemented

mmm not a bad idea to made that, changetip is so cool, i already saw it on others forum software and people like it a lot, btw A PM tip bot as you guys sayd is a really good chooise too, beleive me this featured will be used a lot and will bring us more "movement" to the forum.

The only one problem i see is thet the changetip bot should avoid things like "bump" threads, but ofc there is lot of ways to implement it ;)

Or we could make a tip bot from scratch to fit the forums needs

I think that would bring a load of extra problems and worries for the forum and I think theymos has stated before that he doesn't want to hold people's btc like this (just adds extra pressure to make sure the funds are safe and secure and you'll have to deal with other problems like hackings and possible regulations etc.

Then we should invite changetip to implement it in our forum.

I think it would be more of a case of us just implementing changetip and not the other way round (unless you need to get their permission or something first).

I think change tip well be more interested in implementing their service on the forum. We should definitely consider this

I'm all for it. I think it would be a nice way to reward helpful or quality posters instead of just saying 'thanks' etc. It would also encourage the flow of bitcoins and help some of the newbies aquire their first bits instead of wasting time on faucets etc.

Thats exactly what Im saying. Tipping people even in small amounts would be really motivating for them, for example they make a nice topic or tutorial, we need to tip them.
Please try to implement this by contacting theymos, since you're a mod  :D

Ha, theymos likely has more important things to do and I'm not going to pester him with this stuff. I'm sure he will see these threads where people keep requesting it and take note. He has commented on one of these topics before so I hope it happens, but let's just wait for the new forum or the beta update first. It can always be implemented at a later date.

Given enough time I could probably make a third-party system for BitcoinTalk.org tipping by making a system which listens for registered users' posts and scan them accordingly for phrases like "^tip 60 bits Vortex20000", first checking if the tipper has enough, then checking if "Vortex20000" exists, then doing the relevant deduction/addition.

However, this defeats the purpose of ChangeTip.com as you would have to have a separate account and all...

But that would need a Bitcointalk wallet, right? So if there is any hacking or similar and if Bitcoins are lost, that would create big problems and some may tell it was done deliberately. ::) I think it is better to use Changetip. :)

I think that changetip or any other way to tip and make micropayments with bitcoin is mandatory

Bitcointalk wallet?

Basically you would have to trust a service, say Bitcointalktip, with your money, just like you trust Changetip with your money. It would be possible for a 2-3 multisig address with theymos, BadBear, and someone else (hilarious?) to be made to store most of the funds of this service, but yes, you will have to trust the hot wallet operator (the system, in this case) with your funds.

It would be possible for trusted members of the community to review the code, though (minus sensitive info, like SQL db passwords).

I think a large amount of the tips will be a tiny amount. So the funds don't rely matter. But then,  this forum is  huge  350k+ members!  Maybe a crowd funding would help in security implementations

I think Theymos won't implement it.

I've thought about that before, but I think that there might be legal problems with that. It might make the forum a "money transmitter".

Surely not with changetip? Could that not just be implemented? I think I'd like to see this feature as long as it didn't cause any problems like people have already mentioned.

I think adding changetip itself to the site would work without having to be a money transmitter. Maybe just don't make it a site function, that way a third party is taking care of all the actual bitcoin movement.

But I can understand Theymos reservation with not implementing it.
