Title: We need an appraisal board!
Post by: mailmansDOGE on November 08, 2014, 07:44:49 AM
Every forum with a a marketplace has one even hacker and developer forums...

Why can't the forum about bitcoin have one?

Appraisals? What would go in there exactly? People discussing other user's performances?  If so, couldn't this just go in the Reputation sub? I've never seen this before.

Think it could, although he did get me thinking if anyone proposed that the new forum software have a board voting mechanism
Something like if enough people want a new board section it will be created and panned out if it becomes popular enough it would become a main board in the future.
Also known as trial boards
(Made a new post in the new forum software area of the forums) thanks for the general idea mailmans

(Think he meant the hacker subsection of the forums not sure how you interpreted appraisals though)
(Edit read it weird)

I was talking about appraisals for item and goods...

In other forums appraisal boards work like this:
1. A user that owns an item post the necessary information about it
2. Experienced users give advice to the owner on how much the item is worth or how much they would pay for it if they were to buy it
3. The user now has the chance to use the appraisal post as a reference if he's going to sell the item within the same forum

Ah, I personally don't think a separate sub is needed for that. You could just list the item in the goods section asking if there's any interest in it and what people would potentially pay as I have seen a few users do this before, but I don't think enough to warrant its own section (though others may disagree).

My opinion is that an appraisal sub would be usefull because unlike the goods section, people that visit it wouldn't necessarily be looking to buy or sell something. People would get the chance to ask for appraisals on items they aren't even looking to sell just to see how much they're worth.

People visit many boards in the marketplace with no intention of conducting business already and are more then willing to tell you if what you have listed is overpriced.

The value of what you are wanting to sell is ultimately what the buyer is willing to pay for it as well as how quickly you want something sold. If you are willing/able to wait then you can likely wait out for a higher price, but if you need cash asap then you will need to sell for a lower price
