Title: [BETA TEST] Coindeo (Crowdfunding for videos): 0.02 BTC for testing
Post by: kaerf on November 19, 2014, 09:46:04 PM
Edit 2014-02-10
I've made some exciting changes to Coindeo. Coindeo now allows you to challenge other people on Twitter to create videos for (crowdfunded) bitcoin. Let's say you want to challenge your friend to make a video of himself shaving his head. You create a challenge bounty and you and anyone else can fund the bounty. It's up to your friend to decide whether or not he will accept the challenge and for how much. Obviously, the more more funding that goes into the bounty the greater the incentive for your friend to shave his head.

A historical example of how this platform could have been used is for the Ice Bucket challenge where people challenged celebrities to dump a bucket of ice water on their heads for charity. Coindeo's new challenge bounty allows you to challenge someone to make a video and redirect the payment to a third party, such as a charity. I think this is an awesome feature and will be interesting to see how people decide what is worth their time to create a video for charity.

All of the original gaming video bounty features are still present and have been renamed to "self-created" bounties.

Similar to the last round, I'll be contributing 0.02 BTC to new challenge bounties (first 20 unique recipients only). Note, the recipient of the funds must have a Twitter account with activity more than 60 days ago. The How To has been updated and is still located at https://www.coindeo.com/howto. Or use the Tweet builder at https://www.coindeo.com/builder.

As usual, any feedback is appreciated.

========
OP

Hi All,

I've spent the last few months working on a project that I think could help with Bitcoin adoption. It's essentially a micro crowdfunding platform for gamers, game casters, and people that like to watch game play. Since gaming is a multi-billion dollar international industry and watching "e-sports" is on the rise (e.g. twitch.tv), I think there is great potential for this project.

I believe this project works regardless of Bitcoin use — it's a great space even for traditional payment systems/currencies. In fact, friends have told me that I should not focus on Bitcoin use, but should accept traditional forms of payment. That is something I may do in the future, but for now this project is an experiment to see if the idea is viable.

What is Coindeo?

Coindeo is a crowdfunding platform that enables you to receive up-front payments for producing video content. With Coindeo, you specify a minimum funding target then let your fans fund your video creation. Instead of waiting for a slow trickle of video advertising payments you get paid in full shortly after your video is uploaded. The platform helps you partner with your Twitter followers (and other fans) so you can deliver quality content without needing to worry about the cost benefits of creating content that your fans won't watch.

Users tweet commands at @coindeobot to set up bounties (Eventually, I'll have a nice UI to help users craft commands). By using Twitter, users let their followers know that a bounty has been created and can go to Coindeo's website to request a deposit address to fund the bounty.

Coindeo does not charge a fee on the bounty (at least not currently). However, when users upload a video, they grant Coindeo all rights on the video and agree to let Coindeo receive ad revenue from the video.

More details about Coindeo and how to use it can be found at:
https://www.coindeo.com/about
https://www.coindeo.com/howto

At the moment, I've put the platform on TestNet for alpha testing and would love to get any feedback about it. Admittedly, I've spent most of my time on the backend, so the frontend/UI is not really polished (lots of raw data). My initial goal is to focus on stability and robustness before opening up to a broader audience.  So please don’t be too harsh with your critique of the UI ;) I know there is a lot to be desired on that front.

No new account creation or email address is needed to use the platform. Simply using your existing Twitter account to tweet at @coindeobot and use https://www.coindeo.com to browse bounties and get deposit addresses.

Feel free to send info@coindeo.com an email if you have any questions or would like more info.

Thanks!

Title: Re: [BETA TEST] Coindeo: Testers wanted (Crowdfunded coins for gaming videos)
Post by: kaerf on January 12, 2015, 07:08:25 PM
Hey everyone,

I figured getting people to test (for free) and use TESTNET bitcoins was asking a bit much, so I've launched the site on MAINNET and will contribute 0.02 BTC to testers that create bounties. In order for you to get paid you'll need to upload a valid video that contains good content (videos will be verified and should conform to YouTube's AUP). Please upload videos that go with the spirit of the site.

In order to create a bounty you'll need to PM me your Twitter handle and wait for me to whitelist you so that @coindebot will actually accept commands from your Twitter handle (Coindeo is still in a limited testing phase). No need to PM me your handle, I've disabled the restriction.

I've allocated a total of 0.5 BTC for this round of testing, so the first 25 people who upload a valid video will receive contributions to their bounty. I recommend setting bounties to an amount of 0.02 BTC (or less) if you'd like a guaranteed payout. If you set your bounty above 0.02 BTC and no one else contributes to the bounty then the system will send the BTC back to me.

I'd appreciate any feedback you have about the process and website. I know the website is very raw, but all comments (negative or positive) are welcome.

As a reminder, the HowTo is here: https://www.coindeo.com/howto. There are two critical steps that you might get hung up on. First, you must register a Bitcoin address with @coindeobot. Second, before you can upload your video you must first DM @coindeobot your "claim code". If there is an error with the commands you send to @coindeobot, you will usually get an error message from @coindeo_errors. However, if your command is successful, you will NOT necessarily get a confirmation (this may change in the future, but due to Twitter messaging limits @coindeobot does not "talk" much).

Thanks!

No one wants free BTC?!  ???

Here's a tl;dr of the how to:

Step 1.
Tweet: @coindeobot address 1YOUR_BITCOIN_ADDRESS

Step 2.
Tweet: @coindeobot NewBounty 0.02 BTC #coindeo watch me play #SOME_GAME

Step 3.
Wait for me to fund the bounty.

Step 4.
DM @coindeobot: claimBounty BOUNTY_NUMBER YOUR_CLAIM_CODE

Step 5.
Upload your video at https://www.coindeo.com/claimBounty/YOUR_BOUNTY_NUMBER

Step 6.
Wait for video to be verified and retweet @coindeobot's tweet that says
your video has been accepted.

Step 7.
Get Paid.

Hi, since the whole thing is about crowdfunding for gaming videos, would a video of me playing CS:GO be acceptable/appropriate?

EDIT: The commands says "1YOUR_BITCOIN_ADDRESS" - I'm assuming we don't have to enter "1" twice? Because my address already starts with 1.

Yes, it should be a single 1.

EDIT: and yes, a video of you playing CS:GO is definitely acceptable.

Cyber-Logic, BTW you should be tweeting at @coindeobot not @coindeo. It took me a minute to figure out why my bot didn't respond to your 'address' tweet  :P

I've got a question - will the site process the uploaded video? I render at 720p and 10mbps usually, so that file might be too large for streaming if the site doesn't process and downscale the video at different qualities.

BTW- My video is ready for encoding and I've tweeted the bounty part.

Thank you, i'm stuck with step 4

when I try to Direct message @coindeobot on twitter, twitter tells me "This user doesn't follow you. You can only send messages to people who do." I think the bot has to follow me?

The video actually get's uploaded directly to YouTube, so you can upload anything they can process. Of course the larger the video the longer it will take to upload. Right now the upload progress bar is kind of wonking, but I'll work on improving it.

Hmmm, that's a bug with the bot. After you register your bitcoin address @coindeobot should have automatically followed you. I see that it worked for Cyber-Logic, but didn't work for you. I'll need to track down that bug. In the meantime, I've manually followed you so you can DM @coindeobot now.

Cyber-Logic and xdrpx, your bounties should have been released, so you should see coins in your wallets now.

Power-Inside, thanks for testing! You just need to retweet the video tweet from @coindeobot (https://twitter.com/coindeobot/status/555484532292333569) and then your funds will be released.

Have you thought about crowdfunding and issuing shares for investors?

Thanks for the feedback. I actually don't envision this service to compete head to head with twitch. I see it more as a complementary service that gamers can use to earn additional income. As a spectator, I'd quickly grow tired of constantly funding gamers for videos. However, I think people would be willing to fund "special event" videos where pro gamers put on prize fights with other pro gamers or showcase something extra like a strategy/how-to video.

Regarding funding...yeah, I'm trying to figure out where this project will go from here. If I can show there is a real market for this service then I really think something like this would get a decent valuation. Personally, I see a lot of potential, but getting legitimate users to use the service regularly might be a challenge. I'll try reaching out to some pro gamers once I think the site is in a decent state. I actually took some time off from full-time work to work on this project, however, now I need to figure out whether to pursue it or go back to the grind.

BTW, I've verified your video...you just need to retweet to have the funds released.

As long as there is profit to be made, the investors will flock to you. Maybe just tweaking the idea a little bit to attract more people, instead of just making it a special occasion type of thing. For example, maybe the site could also do bitcoin donation buttons for gamers that would link them back to the site for donations or not.

Hey man, just checkin back in with the project. I was helping a buddy of mine setup up a fund and i was reminded with a difficulty i was having on the process.

What sort of hindered me was the claim bounty code. For some reason i thought it was something you had to make before and that i lost it. Maybe make it a little clearer that you make the claim code right there in the direct message to the bot.

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, the claim code is a pain in the ass, but I think it's necessary to prevent any random person from uploading a video. Maybe I'll consider DM-ing users with a private link instead. In terms of your confusion, do you mean the HowTo is confusing or my instructions on this forum?

Oh ya youve been really helpful and clear in the forum but it was just a little confusing in the "how to" to make the claim code. Maybe it just needs to be more dummy proof over all because its clear how to do it in the "how to" it was just a little annoying for my friend.

Hey there, are there any news about this project?

Sadly I haven't heard much about this project after the launch. Are there any developments or plans going on at the moment? It does seem like the creators are busy people but I'd love to see this project move out of beta one day. I like both the concept and the implementation so far.

Hi! Thanks for the interest. The site is still up and running and anyone can use it. Functionally, everything should be working...if it's not let me know and I'll get on it. True, I haven't been spending much time on this project lately. I'd spent about 10 months working on it, but didn't really see much interest in it from the community and have recently gone back to the workforce full-time (need to pay the bills!). I still think challenge funding is an awesome idea and will keep the site around. The past several months allowed me to "finish" the code base and now that I'm working full-time again I have more financial resources that can support the project.

If you have suggestions for new features or changes, please let me know. BTW, just because it's "beta" don't be afraid to use it. If you'd like to test it out I'm still willing to fund bounties with 20,000 bits!
