For me the most reasonable predict is bitcoin 0.275 will have more value than that both things.
Gold will not up at 1 January , maybe in February or March gold will Up.

If you wanna preserve wealth then $100 bill, because it will be worth within 1% range of what is today.
Gold is more volatile, it could lose or gain up to %10.
Bitcoin is if for gamblers, with possibility to gain or lose more than 50%.

$100 bill is most likely to win, because both bitcoin and gold are in a bear market, while dollar is on the surge.

I picked BTC.

Not because I think gold is unlikely to rise as well, but simply because Bitcoin has by far the highest volatility.

However I think because of this short time prediction scenario it's still possible that USD is temporarily more valuable. I'd be more sure if you'd ask me about 1st of January 2020. ;)

ya.ya.yo!

Every morning, I look at this information - I wanted to start tracking it.
The polling isn't very important - other than comparing a bias-weighted sentiment over time under different value conditions.

It's just info.

hey, I like you "daytrading SIM"

maybe we should create a speculation game during 2015?
we start with 100 USD on 1st of januari and we need some simple rules

only one trade/day allowed. keep everything in excel with a standard file (like the one you are using)
The only problem I see is how to prove no one is cheating by posting his trade a few hours after BTC crashed or started going up.
The only solution I see at the moment is take a printscreen and post it in the topic.

are you interested in this? We could set it up together  :)

i'd follow this, sounds like fun. Don't make it any real form of investment tho, just set it up with imaginary BTC, everyone who joins in, starts with the same amount of BTC and invests at their choice of price during the day. everyone has to keep track for themselves though and post in a thread their exact time of investment and exact amount, so there is no cheating etc.

could be a great community game, just for fun

since i'm lazy.

can someone set up a template spreadsheet for it? and set up a fresh thread which explains it all?
I might just do the investment for real too.

it reminds me of those fantasy-football things I used to do when i was a kid... of course, there was no internet in those days so it was all done by post.
can't wait to get started!

If we can get a few trusted members to volunteer to validate trades, I think that would work.
I'm not around enough to field them by myself.
Everyone tracks their own trades and values.

We can probably use an exchange for actual trade references
posts to the forum would be ok - as long as post edits were disqualified.

Ideas? ..

Title: Re: Pick One - For January 1
Post by: dnaleor on November 29, 2014, 01:38:21 PM
the best thing would be to do as little as possible ourselves.

Maybe we could do it like this:

When people want to buy or sell the BTC, they post just "BUY" or "SELL"
Immediately after that, they quote their own post and add the exchange rate (I propose we use bitcoinaverage.com, to avoid exchanges going down)
The user also calculates how much 'virtual' BTC or USD he owns at that moment.

The player needs to wait at least 24h before he can do a new post (so buy or sell)

everybody can check if the exchange rate was correct and so on...
We can have some volunteers to check some random posts from time to time, to make sure nobody is cheating.

question: will we allow partial buying or selling (so f.e BUY 50 USD worth of BTC) ?
imho I think it's more fun to go "all in" every time ;)

When we have set the rules here, we can create a new forum account and a moderated topic so we are in full control :)

Post by: raskul on November 29, 2014, 01:42:18 PM
there should be limits set. meagre limits, so you don't get someone coming in saying 'BUY 21million BTC' etc etc

A good starting point would be to allow everyone the amount of $USD which = 1BTC at the time of the OP.

People should be able to simply buy or sell all their holding by posting a msg on the thread with buy or sell. A bot could keep track of participants balances and post shortly after with a summary for the person. It could post a scoreboard on here too.

You even have a tester so you can test your bot on historical data.

And?  You can use the bitcoin blockchain for simple messages.  They will be timestamped, ordered, non-forgable, and non-deletable.  You can start as simple as "buying 1BTC at $376.72".  Just post the bitcoin address you are using in a thread here and they can all be tracked easily enough.  You can get much more complex if you wish, and code up an app to send the message and track the leaderboard.  But that's optional.

Never did page scraping for data

If I (or anybody else) can't figure this out, we'll just use the "voluntary check" system and hope people don't cheat. it's just a fun game with nothing to win or lose after all  :)
Keeping the scorebord at the first post in't a very large task ;)

§2 You are not required to carry out the actual trades.
§3 Please post something in this topic if you want to join the game. Registrations are closed on december 31 23:59:59 UTC
§4 Everybody gets 100 'virtual' USD at 01 january 2015 00:00:00 UTC.
§5 You can post a trade by simply posting "BUY" or "SELL". "BUY" means to buy BTC with your full USD balance. "SELL" means to sell your full BTC balance for USD.
§6 Two trades need to be at least 24h apart.
§7 We use exchange rate data from bitcoinaverage.com
§8 We kindly ask you to help us with the scoreboard by quoting your own trades and calculating your new balance
§9 The volunteers will regularly update the scoreboard in the first post of this topic.
§10 FAIRPLAY: There are no prizes, this game is just for fun. Don't edit or delete messages, don't alter the actual exchange rates or "make a mistake" when calculating your current balance. When others notice intentional miscalculations, you will be deleted from the scoreboard and excluded from the game.

edit: Why I'm against joining after 1st of januari? because people who join later have an advantage when BTCUSD is going down and vice versa.
It would be better to allow joining the game again every first day of the month based on the median (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Median) of the people who currently are playing.

edit2: just for fun, we could add some "bots" playing the game, for example a bot that alternates between buying and selling each day at midnight :D

jdany, should I just create the topic? :)

If we can get a few trusted members to volunteer to validate trades, I think that would work.
I'm not around enough to field them by myself.
Everyone tracks their own trades and values.

We can probably use an exchange for actual trade references
posts to the forum would be ok - as long as post edits were disqualified.

Ideas? ..

So how will we do it?
Do we create a moderated thread with a new account (password sharing possible) or with a personal account? Will you create the tread yourself or should I do it?

Proposed rules:

Code:
§1 Everybody can join. Obvious troll posts will be deleted.

Gold is doing good, but I don't believe it can stay above $1200 for much longer.
My estimation dollar bill 75% to win, bitcoin 10% gold 15%.

Two weeks ago I'd say gold less than 10%, bitcoin around 15%.

So majority of people voted for by far worst option.

By next few weeks bitcoin might goes back to 400 level, so 0.275 will be more than $100.

And $100 will always be $100 and I doubt gold prices going to rise or fall too much in few weeks

There's almost no trading activity on the bitcoin exchanges at present so $100 Bill probably wins.
