Title: Recovering bitcoins (already restore a wallet.dat)
Post by: Sem on November 24, 2014, 09:32:00 PM
Hi guys. My story: In 2011 i have coins at deepbit and local bitcoin qt wallet on my PC (windows xp). In 2012 I transfer by a mistake to old bitcoin qt wallet bitcoins from deepbit... Wallet already was deleted and no backups. Wallet doesn`t runs after transaction never. And it`s unencripted.

Now I recover wallet.dat and trying to get my bitcoins. Already install bitcoin qt and it`s totally syncronized.Replace recovered wallet.dat to bitcoin-qt directory. But balance - 0.00 and there are a new receiving address. (as i see it`s normal).

How i can get my bitcoins? Also that transaction has status "Not yet redeemed" Link - http://blockexplorer.com/tx/61dec5352fcde6aa6e9c4a8ab586dbe8a7e2a6e478d8b1635125174d68fe8bf5#o1 (http://blockexplorer.com/tx/61dec5352fcde6aa6e9c4a8ab586dbe8a7e2a6e478d8b1635125174d68fe8bf5#o1)

Or maybe there is a way to compare the private keys from wallet.dat with old receiving address?

Thanks for your apply. And sorry for my English) I`m from Ukraine.

Your coins should be there if you have the right wallet.dat loaded one with this address (https://blockchain.info/address/1FGewu9Ah5eiC8TTH5BLrXyRAv2WSaortd). Check again it's fully synced or not if it is
Try doing a wallet rescan (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=171390.msg1820287#msg1820287) maybe it'll solve it.

Thanks for your advice, -rescan is done, but nothing happens. Still 0.00 btc

May I suggest you use https://github.com/jackjack-jj/pywallet on a copy of the recovered wallet.dat ?
Or even try the new pywallet version here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=294439.msg9046836#msg9046836

Maybe try to import your existing wallet.dat to Blockchain.info -> https://blockchain.info/de/wallet/import-wallet

What a story...have fun with the coins ;)

Thanks for your apply. Already tried that, doesn`t help. I think maybe I found wrong wallet.dat (for my address) and i must to find another one, or as i see i can check with "pywallet" matching private keys from wallet.dat to address... , or I wrong?

Maybe your wallet is just fully damaged and doesn't contain your old keys...you tried to import it on Blockchain.info? There you can see if the particular address is included...

Wallet.dat should have the key. If you have your private key you should be fine.  Try to import it into another wallet software such as Multibit or Electrum.

How i can see that address?  Or you mean Wallet----Receive Money---Active and look there for my old address? No such there...

beaware because there is a bug, that make your balance disappear, i tried it when there is the "?" uncofirmed, basically i deleted the wallet and closed it fast when there was still no confirmations

returning the wallet didn't show my balance, i'm not sure if this is the same case...

I don't really understand your situation.
You said "wallet already was deleted and no backups" and "Now I recover wallet.dat", so how did you recover your wallet file?

From HDD, where it was. with tool - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=25091.0 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=25091.0) . Also keyhunter can do that.

I see.

Since your balance is still zero after trying to use -rescan or upload it to blockchain.info, it is possible that you are looking at the wrong wallet.dat file. Do you remember creating another wallet back in 2011, may be on another machine?

Have you tried imposting the wallet.dat into blockchain.info or another client?

Yep, maybe it`s wrong wallet.dat. Don`t remember creating a new one, but it can be (who knows, 2011 is faar away from today). That`s why i want to find a way to "test" wallet.dat for wrong/right one for that btc address.

No, only in this machine

How can I check that the address belong to existing wallet.dat (they match to each other)?  Except blockchain

As i see there are only new addresses in blockchain. Or i am wrong?

I find a way to test wallet.dat for matching with address you need (in bitcoin-qt client).
Thanks to fsb4000 user.

In console:

validateaddress addressyouwant

For example:
validateaddress 1KFHE7w8BhaENAswwryaoccDb6qcT6DbYY

Then you`l see the text:

"isvalid" : true,
"address" : "1KFHE7w8BhaENAswwryaoccDb6qcT6DbYY",
"ismine" : true
(other information, is not important)

If "ismine" : true this address is in wallet.dat and congrats)

If "ismine" : false there are no such address in wallet.dat

Maybe it helps to someone. I`m going to search another ways to recover wallet.dat

Also my opinion about keyhunter.py - must be a garbage. I tried to copy wallet.dat file on hdd, format it and scan with keyhunter - no results. This was a way to test it.
